Nimue had fretted when Gadriel invited them to the cabin. While it may seem silly, they had spent quite some time debating wearing their new, bone-themed hoodie, wondering if Gadriel would like it or not. Eventually, they had settled with extremely short shorts, and a hoodie. Which they regretted. The hoodie was long enough to completely cover the shorts, making it seem like they weren't wearing pants. It had been an oversight, mostly due to the fact it was quickly growing warmer and Nimue had been seeking an outfit to keep them cool. It had only been when Gadriel picked them up did they realize the mistake, and the entire time they had been anxiously pulling at their hoodie, mind fluttering nervously.
This was a date. Or, they thought that's what it was. When they arrived at the location Nimue couldn't help but swallow nervously, hands trembling as they approached the cabin. The fact they were nervous... it had to mean they liked Gadriel, right? They were afraid of messing everything up. Of doing something stupid and, in return, never see Gadriel again. Luckily, the cabin seemed to distract them, small hands raising to play with their hair as they let out a subtle gasp of awe.
This was where they were staying? It looked amazing! Their head raised when Gadriel looked down, giving a soft smile in return before gazing back around the cabin. Blueberry picking. A cabin. Together. This was al too good to be true! Surely, this was a dream, right? Why would Nimue get this special treatment out of everyone else in the world? What made them that special?
When Gadriel opened the door they couldn't help but curiously dart in past their companion, immediately peeking about the cabin. It was cozy, and even had a fireplace. Their tail flicked as they padded throughout the cabin, eventually pausing briefly at the bedroom.
One bed.
Nervously, they abruptly turned from the room, wandering back towards the entrance. Don't think about that. Focus on something else. Anything else.
"It's amazing." They breathed in response, turning their gaze back to the much taller man. "Are you sure you meant to invite me?" Their tone was a joke, but a soft, almost insecure tone held briefly at their words. This was for Nimue? Gadriel, too, but also Nimue? Why?

Gadriel didn't realize quite how fast Nimue could be when they wanted to be. A purple and green blur (not really), dashed around the cabin, checking out the different rooms and what they had to offer. Gadriel shut the door behind them and set his backpack down next to the couch in the living room. He caught the longer pause at the bedroom and waited for Nimue to say something about it.
At least for now it seemed like Nimue was willing to leave that little detail be. Gadriel was't sure if he should be relieved or not. A smile did cross his face when Nimue did finally speak. Amazing, that's exactly what he wanted to hear. ell, really anything good that they had to say about the cabin would have been fantastic. He couldn't help but laugh a little bit at the joke (pretty sure that was a joke) Nimue had to say after.
"Of course! All of this was planned with you in mind." He gave his companion a soft pat on their head and then turned his gaze toward the kitchen. After that little hike he was starting to feel a bit hungry, so he figured Nimue could use some breakfast as well. "I have what I need to make pancakes, would you like some? There are some peaches and apples in the fridge as well. Let's enjoy some breakfast and then do some hunting!" The goal wasn't to just impress Nimue with his nature skills, but with his cooking as well! Admittedly he was just starting to actually work on his cooking. Pancakes were easy though!

'All this was planned with you in mind.'
Nimue couldn't help the shudder down their spine, flushing slightly under their bangs. Gadriel thought of them. He truly thought about the smaller imp. This... this felt like a dream, even. Not only had they met someone who didn't shy away from their hobbies, but.... that someone had set up this wonderful, amazing date for them. The pat caused their ears to flip down, eyes closing under their bangs and tail wagging once. Why was it whenever Gadriel touched them they felt a vibration of comfort in their body? Why did Gadriel feel like home?
The comment of food made their stomach rumble, causing the small imp to flush brightly, hands resting on their stomach. "Y-yes. I'd like that. Can I help?" There was that feeling again. Nimue, here, with Gadriel, perhaps about to cook with him? It felt safe. Loving, even. Oh, oh there went the red cheeks again.

One of Gadriel's favorite things to do was pat Nimue on the head. He always got the same little tail wag from the adorably small Imp, it was too precious for words. They probably didn't even realize that they always had the same reaction, and that made the whole thing that much cuter to him. Gadriel was lucky that someone as adorable and kind as Nimue had agreed to go out with him!
Gadriel nodded when Nimue asked if they could help, cooking with Nimue would be the best start to the day! "If you wouldn't mind, you could cut up some of the apples and peaches in the fridge! And we'll need the syrup out for the pancakes as well." Gadriel set about pulling out the various supplies they needed to make their breakfast. A cutting-board, apple cutter, and knife for Nimue. A mixing bowl, whisk, rubber spatula, and skillet for himself. "Well then, let's get started." He started to beat the pancake mix in the large bowl while he waited for the skillet to heat up on the stove.
He might as well use this chance to get to know Nimue even better. "So, Nimue. What's your favorite meal? I'd have to say I enjoy veggie kabobs myself." It wasn't like Gadriel avoided meats, but he did prefer to eat his veggies and fruits more. He felt like they provided him just the right amount of energy for his activity level.

Their ears perked when Gadriel nodded, head shaking in response.
"I don't mind." They wandered to the cutting-board, gently taking the fruit and beginning their task. They were surprisingly talented with knives, quickly taking care of of the peaches with little worry. It reminded them, oddly enough, of their more morbid hobby, though Nimue had promised themselves they wouldn't talk about taxidermy. Especially not while on a date.
They had been lost in their task, almost missing when Gadriel spoke. Raising their head, Nimue had to consider the question, running over mental checklists before finally giving an answer. Eating was more of a task then a pleasure to Nimue. They had a hard time prepping meals in the dorm kitchen, too self-conscious they'd be seen. But, they did remember a meal they had loved, made by their mother.
"Stilton leek soup." They whispered, nervously pulling their tail close to themselves. "It's... very heavy, and meant for winter. Mom would make it and it'd... make the house smell bad, but it was delicious."

With the batter all mixed up Gadriel was starting to make pancakes, two at a time, in his skillet. He listened to Nimue careful, aware that their volume often had a habit of plummeting from time to time. He liked to think that he didn't have big ears for no reason at all. Still, he had to lean in just a bit when they talked and was surprised that he found them actually talking about their mother. That was something they hadn't really talked about before.
He hadn't heard of the disk before personally, although he certainly knew what stilton cheese and leeks were, so he could make a few guesses at least. Still, there had to be more to it than leeks and cheese. The way Nimue spoke, he wondered if something had happened to their mother. He could just be speaking of her fondly as well. Sometimes it could be just a little hard to read them with those bangs in their face. They were still adorable though...!
"Mmm, that does sound admirable. I'd have to look up a recipe to know exactly how it works. My Mom cooked with fruits a lot growing up. She was actually vegetarian, though my father wasn't. Unfortnantly for my mother my father did win the battle of 'meats are great and Gade should eat meats'." Although he didn't partake in them as much as the average nightmare probably did. 'It was kind of unfair though, it's easier to sneak you child something, then it is to keep something away from them." He rolled his eyes, thinking of all of his father's antics growing up. He could be a pretty silly person.
By now he had a decent stack of pancakes on a plate between them and it looked like Nimue had just about finished up with the apples and peaches as well. He started to prepare another skillet, melting butter, adding brown sugar and cinnamon. "Alright, put those in here and after another couple of minutes we should be ready to eat." He planned on making them a topping for their pancakes, plus the maple syrup, mmm. His own stomach gave a little rumble then.

Look up the recipe? Nimue slightly raised their head, pondering if they knew it themselves. No, but it had to be written somewhere, right? Maybe online they could find the recipe and alter it a tad to fit the memory of their favorite dish.
They listened to Gadriel speak, a slight smile on their face as they began to wrap up chopping. They'd never really discussed their families, and it was nice hearing about Gadriel's. For a second, they wondered what kind of child Gadriel had been. Was he a happy one? Excitable? Quiet? Nimue could ask, but instead they let it slide. They were simply enjoying hearing Gadriel speak. When finished cutting, Nimue nodded faintly at the comment to add the fruit.
"Alright." They confirmed, stepping closer to place the fruit where Gadriel had directed. When done, they set the cutting board down, leaning gently against the cabinets.

Gadriel's tail swayed back and forth gently the whole time he was cooking with Nimue by his side. A clear sign that he was really enjoying their time together. It wasn't long after Nimue added the fruits that Gadriel was ready to set the plates. He had made around six pancakes (he wasn't entirely sure how much of an appetite Nimue had normally), but they also had the fruit toppings and syrup to go along with their meal. He pulled out the plates from one of the taller kitchen cabinets. Though, he did consider asking Nimue to grab them just so he could see them stretch for the plates. How adorable would that be! Then he pulled out some butter knives and forks for their food.
"How many would you like Nimue?" He waited for the smaller Imp to answer before putting a plate together for them. Then he fixed up a plate for himself and set them down on the small dining room table. "You have to be honest with me if they're any good. I'm still picking up on this cooking challenge." He cut into one of his own pancakes and scooped up some of the topping with his fork. It didn't taste so bad, though he figured the pancakes could have cooked just a second or too longer. They were tricky, leave them on just a few seconds too long and they could get burned and not long enough and they'd be runny. At least these were definitely fully cooked, just very soft.
"I'd have to give myself a 7 out of 10." He nodded and waited to hear for Nimue's opinion.

The smaller imp had been watching Gadriel, hands tapping together as they tried to summon some idea how to help. Gadriel had whizzed through the process before they could, golden eyes peeking through long hair briefly before vanishing as their head raised to address Gadriel. Normally, they had a small appetite, which fit the petite imp.
"T-two, please." A twinge of nervous flutter entered their tone as Nimue shifted slightly, watching Gadriel put a plate together. This was nice. It felt safe, even. Right, in fact. Taking the plate gently, Nimue settled at the table, waiting patiently for their friend (were they friends or....? Oh gosh, don't think about that!). They didn't touch the food, allowing Gadriel first bite since he had prepared most of the meal, taking their own delicate and admittedly tiny bite once Gadriel had finished.
They were good. Not the best, though Nimue would never say that! No, they weren't amazing, but they felt good. Gadriel made them, and that was enough for their stomach to flutter, hands almost dropping their fork. This was made by someone they greatly admired, and that enough meant it was delicious. The fruit was an awfully pleasant touch, at that.
"They're good." Nimue admitted, a soft smile exposing itself. "Thank you."

That smile on Nimue's face was worth the whole vacation. Honestly, he could go home now quite the happy camper! But, there was more to this trip then just baking pancakes and picking some blueberries. The two of them had been spending a lot of time together now, but neither one of them had really said what they were feeling. They had done plenty for each other to express it in other ways, but Gadriel knew this trip would be his perfect chance to really tell Nimue how he felt about them!
"It was my pleasure! I'm glad they came out well." He gave Nimue his usual bright smile, one that never seemed to fade when he was around the small Imp. There was also just a hint of a blush on his face as well. He'd been out to eat with Nimue before, but this was the first time he had actually cooked for them.
"Once our food settles we can go out and look for some blueberries!" Gadriel proceeded to finish off his stack of pancakes and then set to work picking up after his mess, insisting that he do the work while Nimue enjoyed the rest of his food. It helped for him to work off his meal by cleaning anyway. The time also passed by quicker, he was getting way too excited about their little hike now.

Nimue was given absolutely no time to protest as Gadriel began to clean, tapping their fingers against the table softly. Gadriel was too kind to them, Nimue didn't deserve this. Gadriel had to know that, right? Nimue was just a small imp who was both strange and weak willed. He knew that.... right?
So why did he care?
"Okay." Nimue answered to the last statement, slowly finishing their two pancakes by the time Gadriel finished cleaning up. Awkwardly, they slipped free from their chair, pushing it in and making a move to wash the plate themselves. Gadriel already had done so much!

"Alright, you can do the one plate~" Gadriel lightly teased Nimue as he stepped out of the way for Nimue to get out of the sink, but not before Nimue got close enough that Gadriel could ruffle his hair just a small bit. While Nimue worked on cleaning his plate Gadriel went to make sure he had what they would need for their hike packed in his bag. Map, compass, water bottles, and some snakes for along the way. The weather was holding up nicely, but just in case he snuck in a folded umbrella as well. Could never be too safe out there! There was still plenty of room for their haul of blueberries as well!
He popped back into the kitchen area once he was done. "We're all set to go when you're ready." His tail gave a happy little thump against the counter, he was barely able to contain his excitement. Part of him just wanted to tell Nimue now, but shouldn't he save that for after the hike? After they had made something together with the berries they picked together? Ah, he had such conflicting ideas about what would be the perfect timing.
