There was a non-zero chance Alexis may have stolen something from Autumn's bags, but really, there was no way to tell: there was no guilt in their face, and her bags didn't seem any lighter. And if they had: who would hold it against them? They were hungry, and she had edibles; it was a simple enough answer.
In any case, there were about to be much more prescient problems.
For example: when Autumn walked back out onto the street (trailed a second behind by the freckled instigator), suddenly everything was darkened and there was rain all around, and Alexis just muttered a vaguely muffled "God ******** damn it." before kicking the wall hard enough to bruise their toes later. "********. Sorry about that, Smith." No mention of giving her their clothes, vaguely better suited for the rain as they were, but Alexis didn't get that nice. "So...what? Amazingly enough, Autumn did not flinch from the changeover from one world to the other. Sad as it was, she had almost gotten used to it. There was still a pervasive loneliness, a sort of melancholy that clung to it... but it wasn't the gut-wrenching fear that had struck her so many months ago. Christ. It almost felt like years.
"Unfortunately, that's generally how it goes," Autumn offered lamely, the side of her mouth quirking upward in a pseudo-smile. "Here's hoping you don't wind up eating any spiders for this."
No, she still wasn't over it.

"I'm tired of it already," Alexis mumbles, and hunched like this with their hands in their pockets they look younger than their years. The water slides off their hair like nothing -- if it's luck or magic, it's hard to say. "The rain's fine. I just don't like being jerked around by some ******** concept. Makes me feel like I'm in some bad novel."
They ducked out further into the rain, scanning for anything beyond the symbols emblazoned on the walls, and ducked back. "Well, fearless leader, where do we go now?"Moonstone Dazzle i like to call this the 'i can't stick to one tense i'm sorry'. sorry this took so long, i have d&d wednesday nights!

"Well. Is there... a feeling guiding you anywhere? Despite being a fearless leader, I have s**t-all for navigating this place," Autumn admitted, idly following after Alexis. Her eyes stayed trained on them, seeing as they totally nabbed food from her groceries (whatever. She wasn't going to make a thing of it.), just to keep an eye on them in the rain. Kind of funny, for their dislike of it... Alexis wasn't getting all that wet.

"If there was I'd be following it," Alexis snaps, but the brittle anger isn't aimed at Autumn at all; and they do take a minute to contemplate...god-knows-what. Their Spiritual Quest Guiding Arrow. Their hindbrain. One of those, probably. "...maybe 's near my place. Come on. That's this way." Their shoes scuff anxiously against the wet concrete as they walk, one hand reaching behind them to beckon for Autumn, the other trailing along the wall.
"Besides the deer, or whatever...what kind of animals have you found here? Place like this has got to have life, even if it's not like us." They take a moment for a quick shake of the head, like a dog, to push stray raindrops away before pulling their hood up. "Cats. Cats really like this place," Autumn answered easily, steps following in line after Alexis. Internally, she cursed how quickly they'd happened upon Other Ashdown. She hadn't swapped form her around-town outfit to her exploratory one. If something ambushed them, she'd probably have to ditch her heels.
"Zac told me he met a giant owl-monster here. Apparently, it can be... anything. Weres, owls, you name it. It's probably hiding somewhere here."

"Cats like anywhere that's not filled with people," Alexis replied, "n' dogs are exactly the opposite." They sounded...more at ease, when discussing animals. Maybe it came easier. "What size shoe do you wear? I can give you mine if they'll fit, I walk barefoot half the time." Their hand keeps trailing over the weathered stone, waiting for the corner to be there -- and then it is, and they practically vault it, using the hard wall to balance a solid curve around the dropoff of the sidewalk.
"Zac-" a brief moment of contemplation - "kind of scrawny kid, yeah? Dark hair, blue n' purple streaks? I don't know if I ever got his name. Tell him I'm sorry for ********' up, if we're talking about the same guy." Onward and forwards.

"I'll be alright. Thanks for the offer, though." Autumn smiled, relaxing just a bit herself. Their first meeting... hadn't been the best one. Alexis, unfortunately, did not start off on the right foot. With anybody, it seemed. But under the anger and snarky comments, they didn't seem to be that bad of a person. As far as Autumn could tell, anyway.
She laughed earnestly at the description of Zac, and nodded. "Yeah, that's him. Looks like a giant nerd, is one. He's sweet." Autumn smiled. "If you talked to him yourself, you'd realize he's basically a giant weenie. And would obviously accept your apology, even though it's not needed."

"I had to watch him get ripped apart," Alexis hisses through gritted teeth - "what do you say for not bein' taken instead-"
the feeling of eyes on their back makes Alexis shiver, looking around anxiously. "...Somethin's here." They have no knife, today. All they have is a girl with deer horns and their own stupid stubbornness. "Faster. Come on."
They take off in a sprint -- and damn, Alexis can run fast - slowing down before the corner to beckon to Autumn again.

"It ******** sucked in general, I know," Autumn actually snapped as she ran after Alexis, not needing to be told twice to book it. It was the burning man, almost, in a way. That same sinking feeling that clung to her body and made her hair stand on end. And considering she was already thinking about poor, poor Zac... "You saw him get ripped to s**t? I tasted it. I saw everything through that spider's eyes. Trust me. If he can forgive that, he can forgive you."
Rounding the corner, Autumn cursed under her breath.
"Well, congrats. It seems that something unpleasant is after you, after all."

"I threw up on what was left of his intestines, I had his blood all over my shoes and nobody ******** saw it - it should have been me-" And then Alexis is silent-but-not, breathing heavy, their shoes hitting the ground rhythmically with force and weight to them -- it's wrong it's wrong --
despite whatever they might say, Alexis really, really doesn't want to die (with someone else watching), and they spin so fast and desperately on their heel they almost topple. Other way, then. Other way. Their hands are clenched so hard, so tight, they're going bone-white.

Autumn's presence is not noted when it disappears, not until a few seconds later -- she didn't keep up, ********, <******** -
Alexis calls out a choked "SMITH!" and keeps running, like they always do. They always run. They always <********> run.
Alexis trips over their shoelaces and goes stumbling several feet, hair wild, eyes equally so - they don't fall. They don't. They keep running.
