I was introduced in what I understand to be a more unusual way. As a bored homeschooled kid, I spent a LOT of time at my local library. That was where I picked up one of those YA paperback Star Wars books. I don't remember the name of it now (bummer), but it was about Obi-Wan and I just fell in love with it. So I kept reading the books, and then one day my dad asked me, "You know there are movies, too?" I had NO idea. So, he sat me down and we watched them in the order they were made! And here I am, more than a decade later, still totally obsessed.

I was first introduced Star wars by watching New Hope when I was little, watched the other two movies, and read some of the books.
My earliest memory is of a tie fighter on the big screen. Not, you know, during the initial release of Star Wars in theaters (I'm not that old!); but before VCRs were a thing everybody had in their homes, movies kept circulating in theaters for years (okay, maybe I am that old).
I think I saw Empire on opening night, but I can't remember for sure. I know I saw Return of the Jedi on opening night, though. Thanks to the long line and my brother's need for popcorn and soda, we missed the first twenty minutes or so of the movie. I cried. When the movie let out, the theater manager told us to stick around, and after everybody else went home, he restarted it so we could see what we missed.

My dad was never one to surrender childish things. He had most of the Star Wars comics Marvel put out from 1977 to 1986. He would read them with me like other parents read fairy tales. smile

I hope you thanked that manager so much... That's so great of him!

First was a New Hope, was 6/7 years old and hated it. Chewie was too scary for me xd Watched them at 12 again and loved them to bits. Then they made the prequel trilogie... And VII with all these funny trash. Still prefer the "legend" book universe at best.
I think my mum watched Episode IV with me in around 1998 or 1999?
I also remember thinking Jar Jar Binks was funny when I was 11 years old gonk

It's been so long that I hardly remember.

That's the problem... Jar Jar was designed for children... I thought he was funny at first, too! But Star Wars was not designed for children. It's great that children like it and all, but man, there are some HEAVY plot elements for it to be a "kids" movie.

To be honest, the original trilogy's plot was "dumbed down" enough to be just fine for kids. I love the movies but I'm not going to pretend the plot was some intellectual masterpiece sweatdrop
The prequels may get a lot of hate, but there were some really nice plot elements in those movies compared to episodes IV to VI. The originals are more "kid friendly".

I watched a recolor/remastered version of A New Hope when I was a kid(8-10 years old) in theaters. I'm 28 now.

Oooh, lucky! I would love it if they did that again. I DID go to see Phantom Menace (nice title, by the way wink ) when they re-released it in 3D. I'm always a sucker for the Pod Race.

lol thank you.
As much of a SW fan that I am I have to say from that movie the only thing that was fun was Qui Gon's and Obi Wans battle against Maul and the pod race. Everything else was so meh.

You are so right. I always wanted to see more of Qui-Gon. I really liked him and wouldn't really mind a Qui-Gon spinoff movie...

"I am one with the Force. The Force is with me."
I had watched Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.. many many years ago. But, at that time, for some reason or the other, it just didn't catch my interest.
No, years later, finally last December, I took it on myself to sit and watch Star Wars I to VII, all of them, that too for the first time ever. And, I'm being very honest.. at the end of it all, I was literally at such an emotional high, I just kept arguing with myself in my head, on why I was so dumb to have not followed this series all these many years gone by. Regrets and lots of regrets to that, but like that saying goes, "better late than never" Everyone I know in real life, aren't fans of Star Wars.. and I was just like one of them, until Star Wars embraced me with it's magic and changed me forever.
"If only you knew The Power of the Dark Side."

Better late than never, indeed! Welcome to the fandom!
