((Ooc: Sorry, I'm running low on good names apparently.))

He kept telling himself it could have been a lot worse. And to be fair it... really, really could have been... but it was hard to really appreciate that a few hours after being carefully stitched up, which had been exciting new worlds of 'the things you are trying to make me hurt less with also hurt and also i am unsure they are actually working'. And even a couple days afterward... he was getting rapidly frustrated with how much it took to do anything, and reminding himself that he should be grateful it hadn't snapped pieces off his vertebrae or damaged vital organs...

But when he felt shackled to his own discomfort and he was trying to page gingerly through net-flicks on an iPad to stave off boredom... ugh. He was going to go crazy. And mostly his attempts to get a change of view using Hot Lips (which he honestly thought might have saved the day here) had mostly given him a headache, or he'd just fallen asleep trying.

Sleep had it's own issues because then he had nightmares of the Alpha were standing behind him, and that half second of awareness and anticipation of pain stretched out for what felt like an eternity.

He missed the happy illusion of thinking he'd be spending this summer debunking ghosts and beach witches.

The number of people Rylan knew who were currently in the hospital was way too high. Visiting them left him awash with the same sort of guilt he'd felt the first time he'd met Lucas, the first time he'd met Thorne. It wasn't survivor's guilt, really, but similar. So many people had put themselves in harm's way and had been harmed - significantly so, and it left him wondering why he'd escaped Blackfriars with hardly a scratch.

It wasn't fair. It never was.

Leaving a sleeping Thorne to his rest, Rylan made his way down the hall to where he knew one of his fellow wargs lay recuperating as well. He could feel Imp's presence nearby, somewhere outside of the hospital. Possibly busy impaling a field mouse or some large bug for lunch. Haha.

He let himself be briefly amused once again by the little bird's fearsome name, before poking his head into Falco's room and knocking gently at the door.

"Now, there's a hero if I ever saw one," he said with a smile.

Hahaha soon he will understand why Ry does things like DIY bungee jumping and dashing into fires

Falco sort of... half jumped at the unexpected voice, which immediately turned into a tight lipped grimace and a flush of embarrassment. He remembered Rylan from the meeting, and he really, really didn't feel terribly heroic right now, even if his ego appreciated the balm.

"Yeah, some hero. I jumped one freaked out moonwalker and got my a** handed to me." he paused and put his head down to mutter (slightly muffled, but loud enough to be clear. "Very. Nearly. Literally."

It had certainly come close enough, but he was glad the claws hadn't gone down an half inch further.

He lifted his head again gingerly and lifted a hand in an very ginger version of trying to express himself. "How are you doin? Hot Lips is around but I guess she doesn't want to cooperate... I just got headaches trying, so... Netflicks I guess. I figured I'd look for M.A.S.H. Seemed appropriate. .... Did you name your bird by the way? I ... don't think anyone else mentioned anything at the meeting."

...He wondered how Lupin was doing. He still wondered if she could... -re- warg... maybe he could chase Zac down later, find out. Would that just... make her more upset?

MoonRazor
He is definitely starting to get it. <3

"You jumped it, that's what matters," Rylan said with a reassuring shrug. "Those things were crazed with pain and basically superhuman. It's enough to still be alive."

Losing a fight to a were was more than he could say, at least, and in hindsight it might even have been the wiser choice. For him, anyway. Being down on the first floor and seeing all the injured people without any real distraction, that had been harder than he'd ever imagined. And winding up in the hospital, well... that was part of the risk.

"My bird? Vlad the Impaler," he said with a grin. Small bird, big name. "Shrikes like to spear their food on a branch to eat." But shortened to Imp, it seemed fitting enough for the little puff of feathers and sass. He was a cute bird.

"What is yours? I didn't get a chance to see."

"See I would have made a Hannibal Joke but Vlad is way classier." He noted. "Mine's this... giiiiiannnnt fluffy cat. She looks like she's wearing a fur coat, like, except for the face. Like someone dosed a cat with something to induce gigantism and hair growth. She had a tag though... it said Hot Lips. I guess like the M.A.S.H. character... thus the uh... joke that probably didn't make much sense until I explained it, but otherwise I don't know... I don't know who put a collar on her so I have... no idea if I'm about to make life weird for some poor about to be confused family."

He sighed, and looked thoughtful. "...You think that's why they were so tough? Because they were hurting so much? That first one we ran into in the bathroom... she was like... crying. And we -hit her-. I mean... I froze. But... we hit her... we knocked her out and I don't know if we seriously hurt her. I know she would have done bad things if she got out but I kinda also want to know if she's ok. you know? I don't even know how Lupin's doing and I'm kinda scared to ask, because I'm pretty sure I won't be able to do anything and I feel like I'm getting my fill of things I can't do anything about. Cause you know what's fun? Fun is apparently having to debate if it's worth trying to scratch your nose because it will hurt to lift your arms. I'm. going. crazy."

He glanced back over, searching Rylan's face with an expression as though searching for some kind of tip on what to do about this.

"A huge cat, huh?" Rylan said with a grin. "Remind me to keep Imp away from her." He could see where there could be some confusion if she was a pet, though. Nobody liked to come home one day to see their cat's eyes had mysteriously changed color. And the thought of someone being able to see through its eyes at any point... Talk about lack of privacy.

"I... well, I'll be honest, I still have no idea what really happened in that library. I don't know if those things are correlated, but... Lucas mentioned that they had to change in Other Ashdown, otherwise bad things would happen." He'd gone ahead and guessed that said bad things had, indeed, happened. And it had resulted in injuries and deaths. Rylan had barely had time to even think about Lara Lupin in the last few days, but Falco's words made him realize how important it might be to visit her. Make sure she was okay. Find out what had happened.

"But bed rest? Never fun, not for me," he said sympathetically. "You got anything to keep you entertained? A 3DS, maybe? There's a new Pokemon game."

"Yeah... that came up... and then Detective Mercer did some like... magic-eyeballs thing or something and was saying it looked like the head Rogue who was biting everyone looked liked been ripped out of the... Other Ashdown and I guess there was still like a... him shaped hole. So we thought we could maybe help them by getting them back but I kinda only got as far as one so... I dunno. I had to leave before I found out what happened. I don't remember hearing shooting though so I'm assuming we don't have to worry about adding to the whole... hashtag on the internet thing..."

He thought for a second, and then shook his head. "...Just the Ipad... annnd I'm not sure I want to try playing Fruit Ninja on painkillers. Although I bet that would be hilarious for onlookers. Is it sad that I've never played pokemon?" He added, with a dramatic wince. It seemed like a half decent idea right now... maybe he should ask about getting one. "I mean I know who Pikachu is but... so does everybody."

Rylan nodded slowly. "Once the dust settles a bit... I'm thinking it might be smart to look into this. Try to find some people who understand it all better than I do," he said. He was entirely new to this, after all, and... for someone who had spent 28 years of life refusing to believe there was any such thing as magic, it was a lot to take in.

All things considered, he'd taken the being a warg thing much better than expected.

"My... well, Lucas, he's a were now, so we'll have to find a way to make sure he never turns into one of those rogues," he added. For Lucas' sake as well as everyone else's, "Or, rather, he'll probably find a way without really telling the rest of us." A small smile. Lucas, with his whole trying to avoid hurting people thing.

"I'll bring you mine next time I'm here, you can try it out before you decide if you want one for yourself," he said, brightening up. Pokemon. Classic. "I'm on HeartGold right now, but there are... a bunch of different ones. Keeping up with the newer generations of Pokemon is a little outside of my grasp, but it's endlessly entertaining."

"Um, sure that would be cool. You play?" He kind of knew that the pokemon fandom was fairly extensive, but there was knowing a thing and then there was actually seeing the thing in person instead of people discussing starters on the internet in places that were peripheral to his interests. It was...

... kind of refreshingly normal.

"I think I saw him too. Black hair, scowly face, red eyes... well... I assume not red the rest of the time..." He remembered Lucas as sort of a dour, disproving figure that tailed along with the other shapeshifters. "I know Lily... kind of... but not so familiar with him." But that made sense, he guessed. He knew... relatively few people, and it occurred to him he'd maybe... isolated himself a bit since he'd moved here.

"I'm not an expert by any measure of the word, but I play. The great thing about it is it's very hard to mess up," he said with a nod. "But easy to get invested in."

And in times like these, that was exactly what they all needed to take their minds off the crueler reality that surrounded them. Forget, just for a moment, all the people that lay in the hospital. Just focus on beating the Elite Four.

"Was he scowling?" Rylan said with a laugh. "He's usually not like that either. Really, he's a..." he paused, looking for the right words to describe Lucas. "He's a good guy. The best I know. The protective sort."

Lucas was the kind of person they needed to keep them all together - to keep his pack together as well.

"He's on your side, though. He's on all of our sides. This... magic, Other Ashdown s**t is so over all of our heads, all we can really do is keep each other close." Otherwise, none of them would survive.

"I dunno... I guess I can't blame him. If it had been the other way around and we were like... I dunno, chasing down peoples wargs with nets or something so they could stop doing what they were doing and hurting people... I might be scowly too. I mean... I know people were scared but we hurt people who were already hurting. And it's hard to know if we did more than we should."

He chewed his lip thoughtfully. "...I mean... I'm glad we found a way to get everyone out... who knows what would have happened if the police walked in on that. I mean... I panicked. Who knows what would have happened if people who had guns did."

...How many of the local police knew anyway? He knew Jeremiah did....

"I haven't even -seen- this 'Other' Ashdown, I don't feel like I'm missing a lot so far."

Rylan allowed himself a grim smile. "Welcome to... well. War, I guess," he said, a little sadly. "I wish you weren't caught up in it." He wished none of them were. This magic, this nonsense... at the core of it, this conflict they'd witnessed at Blackfriars was everything he'd hoped to have walked away from when he'd come back to Ashdown. Little did they all know, it was likely they were on the cusp of something much worse and much harder to contain.

"There's never going to be a right answer to that question. Not when there are sides, and not when the aggressors are victims themselves," he added. "But your actions, they probably did save a lot of people from getting caught in the crossfires. The police would've opened fire, I guarantee you, and a lot more people would likely have gotten hurt."

Which didn't make it all easier to swallow, but there was evidence to prove that they hadn't been outright wrong, even if they weren't necessarily right either.

"From what I've heard of it, Other Ashdown is not the place to be," he answered with a gentle shrug. "I've never been there either, but... I think I'd be okay with holding off as long as possible."

"Well I suppose it's about as clear as most of the war politics I've ever read about..." Falco muttered, frowning with consideration. War might not be a bad way to describe it, but what were they making war on? Or who... or... what... was making war on them?

"Zac mentioned a little bit about it, but yeah, all I know is that it rains all the time and I guess it's dangerous."

"Lucas says it feels like... the remains of what happened the last time we failed. In our past lives, or whatever the deal is," Rylan said, and the thought seemed so grim that he wanted to push it immediately from his mind. "Apparently we've all been stuck in this cycle for a long time."

It was all a little darker than he'd intended for the conversation. "But, you know. Forget about it, you focus on getting better. And beating the Elite Four."

"... All..." Falco started to ask, but let the question die out with an uncertain frown, looking up to search the other man's face for clues, but he had the feeling that might be a closed line of questioning.

"Hah... yeah. Gotta catch 'em all... thats the line right?"
