Four fronds... Oh how Polair loved it. It's essence, it's flora and fauna-- everything perfectly created by nature. Tonight, she was making a documentary for herself. Just to have it for future reference. Claud had a camera strapped on him and she carried one herself in case he didn't catch up to her. Switching the device on, Polair cleared her throat and pointed the lens at her face.
"Video number ten: different displays of natural selection in Alternia. A few nights back I explained troll Charles Darwin's life. Tonight, I will discuss in a little more detail about his brilliant law-- The Struggle for Existence.” The child stopped the film and replayed it. The angle she took it from was simply horrible. Polair sighed, deleted it and turned on Claud's camera. The child took a few steps back and signaled him to follow her.
"Video number ten: different displays of natural selection in Alternia, part one..." She reintroduced the topic with a few experts of Troll Darwin's "Origin of Species" and began to explain the law of natural selection as she walked deeper and deeper into the forest. Polair stopped as she observed each passing species without disturbing them and talked nonstop. She didn't even noticed she wandered off somewhere without Claud as her surroundings took her attention.
"Now, this general law, leads us to the advancement of all organic beings, namely, multiply, vary-- knowing very well that only the strongest live and the weakest..." Polair looked back, expecting to see Claud behind her. Her eyes widened slightly as she saw nothing but trees and other flora.
"...die." She sighed out. This was expected, yes, she knew she had the situation under control. Polair just needed to find her bioluminescent lusii by attracting him with some light. It was risky, considering the fact that he couldn't stand fast moving objects but, what other choices did she had besides staying there, waiting for him to catch up?
With any luck, her light wouldn't attract other predators. Polair hoped she wouldn't. Nowadays, Alternian fauna was getting more and more affected by the law she cherished oh-so much. A grain in the balance would determine which individual shall live and which shall die-- which variety or species shall increase in number, and which shall decrease, or finally become extinct. That she knew. Polair turned on her video recorder after waving her necklace to and fro several times. Again she cleared her throat and tried her best not to look nervous.
"Resuming with my personal notes, it seems I've walked into the deepest parts of the fronds. Perhaps over here, survival becomes a crucial role in the species dwelling here. Right now, I'm trying to attract a certain Hydrocynus goliath Ursus maritimus, perhaps most commonly known as a Seabear, with a rapid moving source of light. Claud should be here any second now..." She hoped. Another creature scurried nearby, making her aquatic bloodpusher pound harshly against her chest.
