After reopening its doors after its brief relocation to Bloodfest, the Nightly Grind quickly returned to being a regular social hub of Busthind's village. Despite its relatively young age and modest decor, the establishment had been missed. More than a couple of regulars had commented as much. That night was slowly beginning to transition into morning. Patrons switched from ordering coffee, to tea as the sky began to lighten, before filing out and heading for their recuperacoons. A few stragglers had been in enough of a hurry to leave their dishes out for Nucleo to retrieve. It was, all in all, a peaceful night. Doutei Only Doutei and Yamashii can post in this RP. Night was winding down but Amonee Brycer felt more wired than ever.
Hurried footsteps made the trek up the mountain, not pausing to look at any of his favorite rocks or tough twisting trees struggling to grow in the harsh climate of Busthind. They did not stop for the cluster of wingbeasts waking up slowly and taking flight into the lightening sky. All of Alternia's beauty would simply have to wait today. The jadeblood was finally going to get to the bottom of this- once and for all. He pushed open the doors, ignoring the CLOSED sign hung just a few minutes ago.
"Cleo! We need to talk." The greenblood seemed to be in the middle of cleaning up the last traces of business. That was fine, it wouldn't interfere with their discussion. After the intensity of Bloodfest, Nucleo probably welcomed a chance to slack on work. The upkeep of a small booth had been exhausting. Having a kitchen to stash the dishes in until tomorrow night was a blessing to take advantage of.
"You know you were supposed to come by yesterday?" Amonee crossed his arms, a rare look of sour irritation across his face. It was part of his clingy nature to feel incredibly slighted and nervous when rejected or ditched by the trolls close to him. But based on the frequency of these happenings, he was starting to feel like he was either being forgotten or worse, toyed with.
"I mean... if you don't want to hang out with me anymore- just tell me!" The painter bit his lip, his pump biscuit tense and terrified at the thought but it was one he had to face.

Another busy night at work and he was exhausted! Still, it felt good to be back here in the familiar safe atmosphere. Bloodfest had been fun but completely overwhelming, both in his professional and personal life. On the plus side, he'd made a good amount of money and was already preparing his plans on how to spend it. His little hive had done well up to this point but it was time to remodel and expand if he wanted to reach his dream. Turning on the sink, the greenblood smiled as he mulled over his plans while washing dishes.
"Amonee!" Nucleo jumped as the door to his hive banged open and his friend charged in with a tone to his voice one didn't often hear. Surprised, he turned to look at the jadeblood and froze at the expression he wore. This wasn't good at all.
He'd tried to be careful at Bloodfest but it'd been impossible to manage everything without his clones and so he'd been forced to use them. And it felt wrong to let them die when the time limit came so he'd absorbed them, except for that one dark night when... he didn't want to think about it, besides it wasn't relevant to the current situation. All that was connected was his stupid thinkpan that didn't work properly like other normal trolls.
"I'm sorry, I just-" Forgot? It pained him to know it was the truth and yet be aware Amonee would think it a lie to cover up something else. As the jadeblood cut in with an emotional outburst, Nucleo flinched and turned off the water.
"That's not it! I love spending time with you!" He hoped Amonee could see the truth burning in his eyes. Struggling with how to explain this one away, Nucleo fumbled with his words, faltering. He needed to come up with something simple and believable. Something Amonee would accept without getting more upset over. Nucleo had only ever dealt with an Amonee this upset once before and it'd ended with him getting locked in the hotel room during Bloodfest. He didn't want to know what the painter would do this time in his own hive if things went badly.
"I-I got caught up making arrangements for the remodel." There! That ought to satisfy him, right?
Yamashii Sorry to make you have to keep pushing him, just seemed too soon for Nucleo to break immediately.

Just like clones, Nucleo never seemed to run out of excuses. There was always a reason he hadn't shown up or wasn't where he was supposed to be.
"I don't trust you. This happens too often, it can't always be other plans." The greenblood's face was full of sincerity as he protested that he did care but it just didn't add up. "Something's wrong. You forget things all the time!" Amonee's tone wavered between bursts of anger and terrified concern. What if it was a health problem? Not all trolls were lucky to be born with all their parts working and in tact. Or maybe that fall off the- Amonee burst into tears at the thought of it.
"It was the cliff, wasn't it? You hurt your head and now it's all jumbled. Oh Nucleo, my Gog!" How could he be so insensitive to think his friend was avoiding him? He didn't hate him, he just couldn't think right anymore! There wasn't really any sort of hospital on the mountains so they'd have to go by train- The painter's thinkpan started whirling with thoughts on how to get his precious friend to the help he so desperately needed.
"I-I'll pool all the beetles I have, we can afford a doctor. You don't have to live with it just to save up for your remodel." Reaching forward, worried hands tugged Nucleo into a gentle embrace. The barista was always trying to find a way to expand and get ahead. With the recent depression at Bloodfest, he was probably throwing everything he had into his business to distract himself from her. But this was something that had to be resolved. The jadeblood would march right down to Xavier's place to get help dragging Nucleo to the train if he had to.
"If we hurry, we might be able to catch the last train of the night to Civisect!"Doutei ya might need a hospital after amo's done with you!! >: O

"Amonee! No, I-" Eyes widened at the mention of his tumble off the mountain. It was a good excuse but one he couldn't take. He couldn't lie about being hurt. Wincing as his friend threw his arms around him and hugged, Nucleo only hoped Amonee wasn't crying. He felt terrible. This wasn't supposed to happen.
"I don't need a doctor. Or rather, a doctor can't help me." At least he didn't think so. Nucleo had never gotten an opinion on his memory problems but was pretty sure there was nothing medicine could do for him. It'd taken him a few sweeps to narrow down the reason it happened and it made a lot of sense why. All he could do was live with it.
"Please don't cry, it's not what you think." Nucleo pulled Amonee to sit down at one of the tables. It was best if he sat for this next part.
"It's a little complicated. You know about my clones." The greenblood moved to fixed the 'closed' sign at the entrance to his hive and turned the lock. This was a very personal matter to him, he didn't even want to be telling Amonee about this. He only was in order to give the boy some peace of mind. It would continue to strain the friendship if things continued without his honesty. It didn't make him feel any less vulnerable though. His pumpbiscuit beat rapidly as he returned to sit in front of Amonee.
"I can do more than just make them. I can absorb them back into me." He wasn't sure if he'd told the jadeblood this before but it was an important step of the process that was coming next. "When I absorb them I gain their memories. I know it doesn't sound believable." Nucleo laughed awkwardly. His entire power was pretty far-fetched already. Every night he was grateful for it but also felt that it gave him a burden. Why had he been given this amazing ability with such an awful handicap? It felt like a waste to not take full advantage of it. It also felt like a waste of his life if he couldn't remember half of it. His jaw clenched at the memory of getting Elidae's name wrong, the times he'd forgotten to meet with others, the times he'd failed to meet his clones in time and they'd died without him.
"But when I do, they obliterate my memories. Everything blends chronologically and I can't figure it out. I've tried so hard to find a way around it but I- I can't!" Frustrations from over the sweeps began to boil and his voice came out sharper, angrier than he'd ever shouted at Amonee before. It wasn't the boy's fault he was like this but dammit he'd done so well to keep it a secret and now that he had someone to tell-!
He felt lighter and heavier at the same time.
Yamashii there is more to say but i figure amonee should get a chance to get a word in or react before i monologue some more!

The barista sat him down at a table and began to speak. Amonee had never lived through a stranger tenser moment before. The clones, he was aware of. The absorption he didn't know as much about. He understood the words Nucleo was saying but they didn't make any sense. The painter narrowed his eyes and wrinkled his brow as he processed the idea. Memories... blending and obliterating a timeline. How did that work? How did that make any sense?
It didn't. That was the point.
"That sounds so hard." Amonee murmured after giving Nucleo a moment after his outburst in case he had more to say. This was important for him to share. The jadeblood could see it was a big deal by the way Nucleo strained his face to try and keep his expression under control. He'd never seen him struggle so much before. A soft smooth hand slid on top of Nucleo's and wrapped over his. It pulled at his biscuit to see his friend like this. A boy with endless copies of himself for company but no one who would ever really understand him completely. But the jadeblood had to try.
"I can't pretend this isn't strange. But it's not something to be ashamed of." He could see faint hints of color lighting up the curtains that had been drawn to keep the morning from flooding in. The sun hadn't risen yet but it was on its way. "Thank you for telling me. I won't tell anyone else." Such a big admission made Amonee feel very close to Nucleo but he had to protect that closeness by not being careless about it. He ached to talk to Xavier about it, brainstorm some ideas to help, but that decision wasn't his to make.'
"Do you keep a journal? Oh, very smart!" Nucleo nodded and the painter approved. The greenblood wasn't stupid, Amonee should've known he would think of that already. "What if you passed out notepads- no, that wouldn't work if they didn't come back. Do all of them?" He had seen clones poof into thin air before without really understanding what it meant. But he was on a roll and continued on with his thoughts, unknowingly allowing Nucleo to avoid answering about the matter if he chose not to.
"It's difficult when you're different, isn't it? Everyone's 'powers' seem to have drawbacks." Amonee wasn't trying to make the conversation about himself (though he could be guilty of that at times) but sharing experiences might cheer up Nucleo into feeling like he wasn't alone in dealing with his flaws.
"Mine too, you know, being jade. If you're up too early too much, you barely see anyone. And you're always tired." His eyes flickered to the machines lined up behind the counter. Extreme fatigue was one of the factors that led him to this cozy little cafe so often, the other being the lovable staff and regulars of course.
"The daywalkers I've seen show up in my dreams sometimes." Amonee tried to laugh it off as so weird but it was a vulnerable thing to admit to his dear friend. Did Nucleo dream? Was it just as disjointed as his memories, full of flashing sights and a lack of linearity? There were so many things to ask but he didn't want to overwhelm him like some patient for study.
"So if you need to talk about it, vent about it or joke about it... I'd like to be there for you." He squeezed the other's hand but did not let go.Doutei cutting amo off there so nucleo can respond

"I don't mean to complain... but yeah it is." Nucleo nodded hesitantly at Amonee's admission of the difficulties of being different. He didn't want to think of himself as unusual or special compared to other trolls but he had to admit that his powers were not ordinary. Just as Amonee and Xavier weren't. He felt a little conceited though that he hadn't considered the drawbacks to their blood before. Truthfully, Nucleo didn't fully understand what it meant to be a jadeblood and simply knew it was a thing and that they had the same color so they must both be one.
"I... didn't know you saw daywalkers." The greenblood commented with a quiet reluctance. How had he not realized it sooner? Amonee was made of tougher stuff than him to face those things. Here he'd been moping around home over a girl when his best friends brushed with death every night they stayed out past sunrise. His chest tightened in imagining the fear they must feel every time. Those faces...
Amonee continued on and Nucleo nodded to his offer but fell silent. Thoughts flashed through his mind, thoughts about his troubles, thoughts about Amonee's problems, thoughts about the future. Leaning back in his chair, he tried to look at the bigger picture. He hadn't been prepared to talk about all this tonight, there was still so much left unsaid. And so many questions. They were friends but they barely knew the important things about each other. He felt a little shallow that he could name all of Amonee's favorite reality tv show characters but none of the traits of a jadeblood. His regrets pointed to one outcome.
He needed to change.
"I'd like that." The pain he'd felt was melting into a bond between them. Meeting the other's eyes finally, he gave him a wistful smile. His problems were not in any form fixed- there was still a lot to be done but it felt good to have someone new to share it with now. He'd worked so hard to keep his troubles to himself and his clones, to hide a secret that he didn't know how to handle. Now he understood that there were others out there who might not understand it exactly, but could sympathize. It gave him hope.
"I'll be there for you too. You and Xavier." Nucleo said with resolve. He didn't know how the other jadeblood felt about the situation but figured he also had problems. He felt close to both of them and wanted them to know he cared.
"Both of you are welcome here anytime. Awake, tired, or asleep. I just want to see you." His eyes twinkled.

There it was, a spark of something lighting up Nucleo's eyes. Amonee's pumpbiscuit swelled with joy at the sight. He never wanted to see either of his best friends so depressed and hopeless again. Nucleo's face without a smile just seemed wrong and the jadeblood beamed back at it through happy tears.
"Then the matter's settled. You'll be begging us to leave after this!" Amonee laughed and pulled the other boy into a hug. He was planning on coming by a lot after a deal like that. It was rare to find trolls that could relate to his weird situation. How lucky was he to have found both Xavier and Nucleo so soon?
"I'll take good care of you. I promise." Something fluttered in his chest but Amonee wasn't sure what it was. He pushed it away to deal with another time. Giving Nucleo one last squeeze in his arms, the painter pulled back and let go of him. He'd almost forgotten how tired the other boy had to have been after working all night only to deal with an emotionally exhausting conversation right afterwards without any break. The greenblood worked himself to the bone and Amonee ought to be more careful not to tire him out. Nucleo was the type to accommodate him even at the expense of himself.
"Sorry for barging in here and springing this on you. But thank you for listening and talking with me. You'd better get some rest now, I'll finish cleaning up." It was the least he could do! Amonee moved towards the kitchen and began the water running. His body felt lighter and more energized than it had in a long time. Was this part of 'making up' with someone? Though it wasn't like they'd had a huge fight... just a misunderstanding.
Maybe it was part of the buzz of getting closer to someone you really liked, who knew?Doutei late tag is late but here

"I'll count on it." Nucleo smiled as Amonee declared his intentions to care for him. It went unspoken that Nucleo would do the same in return. The atmosphere was returning to normal, both of them relaxing once more. The mood was still somber but it was no longer tense. It comforted the greenblood to know that now there was someone else who knew about him. He'd thought it would be scary, it was certainly an uncomfortable topic, but Amonee had taken it well. Maybe he needed to start trusting others more. Next up would be Xavier. After that... no, it was too early. He wasn't sure what to do about that yet.
"It was pretty slow tonight, there's not much left." The barista laughed as Amonee dashed to the kitchen to do dishes. The Nightly Grind had started to grow a steady customer base but even it still had nights when it was quiet. He sort of liked that. While Nucleo liked to be social and meet many trolls, there were times he too wanted a low energy night. He'd had plenty of excitement lately.
"But I'll let you handle it." He wanted to insist that they finish the work together, it was technically his business, but one look from Amonee and Nucleo knew to drop it. His friend was trying to do a nice thing for him and needed some time to process the conversation alone. They would talk when he woke up. Following Amonee to the sink, Nucleo hugged him from behind.
"Thank you. We'll talk more when I wake." The greenblood murmured. Pulling back, the gave the jadeblood a small nod before heading up to go to bed.
