The posters appeared near the end of the winter semester, tacked onto bulletin boards and left on cafeteria tables. A so-called "summer send-off trip" to Japan for students graduating from any post-secondary school in North America, Europe, and Australia at a discounted price. It's an unusual destination for a grad trip--but it's difficult to turn down such a deal when other, more popular options were too expensive for the debt-bearing grad. In the end, the mid-July trip attracted about three dozen students.

The first week had been great, beginning in busy Tokyo, passing through Nagoya and heading towards Kyoto. The journey was long; almost seven hours by tour bus from Tokyo to Kyoto, though fortunately, a number of stops had been planned along the way to ease to travelers. A short mountain hike had even been planned, the tour guide promising that the location was relatively untouched by humans and absolutely gorgeous.

It was, of course, in the remote mountains of the Shiga prefecture, that things went awry.

It began with an interesting fact. Someone heard from someone else, who'd read somewhere, that there was an abandoned village nearby. That was, others added, far more interesting than some trees and grass. It was, someone else proposed, so much more interesting that they'd rather go searching for it than go on the hike.

The proposal took off. Of the sixteen students who'd (much to the tour guide's chagrin) opted out of the hike, eight of them set off in search of the village lost in the mountains.

They didn't think they'd find it, didn't think it even existed.

Go figure; they were wrong.

It didn't seem to be that far from where they'd parked the tour bus, didn't seem to be so deep into the woods. Perhaps it was the absolute silence, the stillness--but the ruins seemed almost to be buried in the forest, so far removed from the hiking trail that it was like another world. Fascinated, the students wandered in, snapping photos of the derelict houses and treading through the abandoned belongings of the villagers.

Some were a little less eager; something felt so, very wrong in this village. Maybe it was the condition of the buildings; worn from time and nature but preserved well enough despite their obvious age. Maybe it was the way the skies seemed to darken, shadows elongating until it looked like it was almost evening, though it should have hardly been past noon.

Finally, it seemed like their little adventure would end; the other half of their group should be returning from their hike soon, and it wouldn't do to keep everyone waiting. Luckily, their path to the village wasn't that long, and they should be back in mere minutes.

Except, of course, they weren't. The path they'd cut through the greenery was obvious; they could see their own footprints in the damp earth and the branches they'd broken. Yet, it wound through the trees, stretching far longer than they'd remembered. Then, finally, it ended.

Instead of the clearing, though, with their fellow graduates, they'd ended up back on that hill, overlooking the village. A second attempt, then a third, all yielded the same results.

They couldn't leave.

With no other options, the students re-enter, hoping that the answer to this mystery--and their way out--might be found in the traces left by the villagers.

The village is surprisingly large, consisting of dozens of homes. Surrounded by thick woods, it would have been remote even during its peak years. The architecture is traditional, and there is not a single sign of modernization or electricity. It appears to be at least a hundred years old, but most of the structures still stand as if it's merely been a decade. Furniture and belongings still remain in the homes; some of the other buildings might have been stores, some of their wares still on display.

There is a mansion towards the far end of the village, standing larger and taller than the other houses--once belonging to an important family, no doubt. In the outskirts, a Shinto shrine, marked by a torii gate. Beyond that, a cemetery.

The most eerie thing, perhaps, is that what was intact had remained perfectly preserved. Books lined their shelves neatly, pottery still carefully stowed, sleeping futons still laid out, or carefully folded into closets. It might have looked like the village was still inhabited, but aside from the misadventuring graduates, there was no one else there.

Every once in a while though, there'd be something. A sound, like a voice, or a shadow skirting just the edges of the travelers' vision. It was colder in some places, and the feeling of being watched was almost constant.

Just what was this place?

xxxxx━━━━━━━━ We stopped looking for the monsters under our beds when we realised they lived in our heads. ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇
xxxxxxxxxx//////////////////// VSG12

xx AGE ➟ 21
xx GENDER ➟ Female (Heterosexual)

xx PERSONALITY ➟ Kaiyla is a quiet and gentle soul who wants nothing more than to put herself out in the world and make a change. She does constant volunteer work on the side of her nursing classes, leaving her with little time for friends. She is very shy and antisocial, a side-effect of her OCD, taking a while to come out of her shell, but when she does she is a charismatic and bubbly person. She is very smart and cares a lot for others, but she can be easily scared at the same time.

xx BACKGROUND ➟ Kaiyla grew up in the small town of Yerongpilly, a short distance from Brisbane, Australia. Her mother was a Physical Therapist and her father a Brain Surgeon, so it seemed that the career of a medical profession was something she got from her parents. When the time came, she decided it was time to apply for University. She made sure that the money used for her tuition into the University of Queensland (UQ) was out of her own pocket, working long hours as a Veterinarian Clinic Secretary days and nights for a year after graduating High School.

She dedicates her heart and soul into her studies, so she has little time for friendships, relationships, or anything of the sort. She wants to reach out to friends, but has a hard time being able to communicate her true feelings. She has a nasty habit of speaking in a highly-intelligent way that over-complicates many situations she is put in.

During a break in her busy University schedule, she found the opportunity to visit Japan. Having never been out of Australia before, let alone out of her state of Queensland, she decided to take the chance and go. She imagined she could make friends, start to connect with people her age, and packed her bags.

xx SKILLS ➟ Since Kaiyla is training to be a nurse, she has an extensive knowledge of medicinal procedures; ranging from basic First Aid to amputating limbs if need be. Her photographic memory allows her to access any information she read from a long time past, meaning she has a kind of access to any medical technique she might need in a pinch. Because of her OCD, she brought her full medical kit and trail rations, although not enough for a long stay.

xxxxx━━━━━━━━ Scars have the strange power to remind us that our past is real. ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇
xxxxxxxxxx//////////////////// VSG12

xx AGE ➟ 22
xx GENDER ➟ Male (Homosexual)

xx PERSONALITY ➟ Eiki may be a homosexual youth from Sagamihara, Japan, but he is accepted by his friends and family. He lost his father to cancer when he was only five, so he's only known life with his mother, Minako, and her partner; a female lawyer named Haruko. Eiki doesn't mind being raised by two women and is very accepting of their relationship together.

Eiki is an athletic, strong, and rather well-built young man who wants to be an actor/dancer/singer later in his life. He has an overly-dramatic flair and he can be very flamboyant sometimes. He is a gentle soul who wants to entertain the world in any and every way he can. Whenever he gets overly excited, he will speak in Japanese. Whenever he gets angry, he will speak in Mandarin. He knows Mandarin from Haruko, who is half-Chinese and half-Japanese.

xx BACKGROUND ➟ Eiki grew up learning a great deal about Japanese history and mythology from his mother, Minako, who works as a University History Professor in their home-town of Sagamihara. While he took the information to mind, his heart was set elsewhere. He has a fondness for acting, singing, and dancing and wants nothing more than to work for Hollywood in his later years.

Eiki is attending University in California (Los Angeles, to be exact) for Theatrical Arts, composing of all the different courses he wants (drama, dance, choir, band, etc). He dedicates himself to his studies to make himself the best actor he can be. He dislikes, if not hates, disappointing people in any way. He is a very social person and while he can handle rejection, it always upsets him in some way. He has no stage fight whatsoever, being a brave and confident person while most are afraid. When he saw the posters for a summer vacation, he knew he deserved a bit of sunshine in his home country, but he didn't expect a haunted village....

xx SKILLS ➟ While he wants to be an actor/dancer/singer, he is fluent in Japanese history and mythology (he learned this from Minako). He is also a medium and has a great fondness for communicating with the paranormal...even though he doesn't quite know it. He is unaware of his powers as a medium, and because he as never exercised them they are weak or show in powerful bursts he cannot control. By using a ouija board he was given by his grandmother before taking the trip, he might learn a bit about being a medium...

●●●●●● Mira Lasatter ██████████████████████████████████████ █ █ █ █

User Image
xxxxx━━━━━━━━ Not all people feel. ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇
xxxxxxxxxx//////////////////// Mint Choco Kitten

xx AGE ➟ 24(Failed ninth grade)
xx GENDER ➟ Female

xx PERSONALITY ➟ Mira is somewhat different from people, internally she doesn’t feel. She is what some people would call a sociopath, maybe even a psychopath in some regards. She understands exactly how she should react, and to those who are untrained, they would truly believe that she was feeling. Mira has many weaknesses, but her biggest weakness is actually the fact that she cannot feel. This causes her to not completely understand some social situations or events. She also has a compulsion for things that she owns to be in specific places. In her apartment for instance everything has their place, and they never move from those spots when not in use.

Mira around friends behaves how the situation demands, only those she truly trusts, knows that she doesn’t feel things. However, because she had only one friend in Washington before she moved, this caused her to not have any friends when she arrived in her new school.

This level of numbness however, gives her the edge to be able to calculate, to be able to think rationally in even some of the most stressful of situations.
To those who wouldn’t know that she doesn’t feel, she would come across as the nice girl, yet serious when she had to be. The kind and caring girl who would give up her lunch if someone she knew didn’t have any to eat. It was her greatest strength. That and the survival training that she was given when she was a young teen, in the event that her father died, and she was left alone.

xx BACKGROUND ➟ Mira had gone to several schools growing up. However some of the most important schools were the Novau School for Girls, which was a French private school from when her father was stationed in France. In this school she studied your standard courses like History, English, Math etc. etc. Mira was born in eastern Germany, but she was raised in New York state in the United States. Being raised two hours away from new York city this didn’t cause her to have that hard abbraisive personality that most new York city residents had. Instead her surroundings gave her a chance to play in woods, get hurt, be able to take care of herself for hours. She had spent many summers also going to survival camps. These survival camps help train youths how to survive within their surroundings. It taught the youths what plants, fungi and animals were safe to digest and cook. Yet also teaching the youths how to create shelter where it is needed. Mira had also spent summers in military and combat boot camps. This gave her the fighting skills that she would need to survive if the time ever came that she needed it, and it gave her the discipline that she so desperately needed. Mira had also spent 2 years in France, this taught her how to be graceful if you will, it taught her how to be polite and how to have “class” about her.

Kaiyla Montgomery, an Australian medical student, walked alongside other university seniors on the trip to Japan. It was a welcome retreat from her studies at the University of Queensland located in Brisbane. Normally, Kaiyla wouldn't have agreed to partake on anything that would stray her from her studies, but her friend insisted that she needed a break. On the eighth day into the twelve-day trip, the group of twenty-eight students were trekking up the mountain when one of the boys, Kei Kozumi, had been going on about a supposedly haunted village located on the same mountain they were climbing. Kaiyla, being the vastly (and sometimes overly) intellectual person she was, didn't believe him. However, she did notice he went missing and knew that he could get lost. Her urge to save people around her compelled her to follow after where she saw him go.

She had been walking for only a short time, yet she still hadn't come to find Kei. That troubled her greatly, as he couldn't have gotten that much farther ahead of her. Even through the dense Japanese forest, she should have been able to find him at this point in time. "I remember what path he took, but why can't I see him?" she thought to herself as she adjusted her glasses.

Her curly blonde-hair was pulled back into a loose ponytail, some strands falling in front of her face. She tucked them behind her ears as she walked. She took her time, however, since the trees were beautiful and the sun warm against her pale skin. She stopped for a moment and looked down, making sure she had her supplies. "Medical kit, extra rations of food, batteries, flashlight, and an extra-large blanket. Good, I have everything I packed right here," she thought to herself with a sigh of relief.

As she walked along the trail, she noticed the path became more wild and overgrown. She shrugged the bad feeling off as she rounded the corner. There, she saw the gate to the village. There was a gate outside the front, the doors still open, so she stepped closer. It was when she was a few feet away that she saw Kei; a Korean boy with with charcoal-black hair and glasses on his squarish face.

She ran through the gate to go to him, to tell him the others were waiting for him to return to the cabin at the base of the mountain. The instant she set foot in the village, the sky darkened and it became colder. She tugged at her yellow sweater, pulling it closer to her body. "What are you waiting for? Everyone else left you behind, why have you been lingering around this place? It's just....creepy," she asked as she got close.

"I told you this place was real. Still, I wish you hadn't followed. I tried to leave once I got here, but all I keep doing once I leave the gate is end up right back there. An infinite loop. We're stuck here now. Us three," Kei mentioned.

Kaiyla watched his expression; fearful and shocked. That isn't something you would find in any normal scenario, but this wasn't a normal scenario at all. Everything changed the instant she set foot in the village. Why was everything so dark and cold? Why was everyone else so afraid? Kei was the kind of kid who was a jokster, yet everything in his demeanour now was a clear sign he was genuinely afraid. Of what? She wanted someone to answer her, since all she could hear was the wind through the trees - a sound like moaning. A sound that chilled her to the bone.

"Us three?" Kaiyla asked when she realised what he said. She turned and nearly hit another boy with her long ponytail. She let out a gasp and placed a hand over her heart, trying to slow the pounding. "Jesus, don't scare me like that. Why did you follow me!?" she sighed.

Mediumship
The practice of certain people—known as mediums—to purportedly mediate communication between spirits of the dead
and other human beings. There are several different variants of mediumship; the best known forms are where a spirit takes control of a medium's
voice and uses it to relay a message, or where the medium simply 'hears' the message and passes it on. Other forms involve
manifestations of the spirit, such as apparitions or the presence of a voice, and telekinetic activity.

Eiki Hideyoshi, a Japanese-American youth who was visiting his homeland from the University of California studying a course in Theatrical Arts, had followed Kaiyla after she had gone after Kei. He was curious as to why she had decided to go alone, since it seemed very unlike her. However, he'd lost her on the trail. By the time he caught up, she was in a conversation with the other boy. When he mentioned being trapped, the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end.

The instant Kaiyla turned to face him, he nearly got a facefull of her hair. He scrunched his nose as the hairs touched it but didn't react otherwise. "Sorry, didn't mean to frighten you. But, I guess we now have other things to worry about, sweetheart," he answered back.

"Don't call me that. My name is Kaiyla," she retorted.

"And I'm Eiki. We still have another problem to face now, other than trying to escape. Where did Kei go?" Eiki replied calmly.

Looking around and even in buildings right near them, Kaiyla and Eiki couldn't find any trace of Kei. When they came back to the same spot by the gate, they couldn't even find any other signs of him being there. All they could find was a single sneaker that he was wearing. It was in pristine condition, which it shouldn't have been since the hike up the mountain did go through mud.

xxxMira had been looking forward to the trip to japan. However thanks to her fathers military background she had been to many places, Japan however hadn't been one of those places. She looked around and then left the group. Mira had grown curious about what a few students were doing, they had branched off from the rest, ending up in this bizarre and yet interesting abandoned village.

xxxShe listened to the other kids speak, Prior to following the children she had made sure to purchase a gun to keep on her. Mira needed to feel safe, and normally the professors wouldn't have allowed such a thing, but she planned on selling the gun and ammo before she returned to the country. Mira heard their panic, and one of the boys had seemingly vanished. Mira took off her hat, the temperature was warm here, but that wasn't surprising, she put her hair up and tried to leave, to test this infinite loop that one of the classmates had mentioned.

xxxMira walked toward the exit, when she did, she had only gotten a few foot steps out before arriving back inside the village where she had just been. Mira decided to look at some of the buildings, she didn't make an effort to speak to the other two who were trapped, she needed to make a mental survey of what was around them. A temple, some misc buildings, and what looked to be no food. It wasn't surprising this place looked like it had been left to rot for over a hundred years. Mira set her bag down and rummaged through it, until she came across Her sketchbook and pencil. She took them out and began to sketch what she saw, mostly as a mental note for her to be able to find this spot later.

xxxOnce she did that she turned the page and walked to the gate, she had begun to sketch out a map, starting with what she could see. It wasn't going to be anything fancy, but she knew how to label things, and she was no stranger to map design.

Kaiyla walked up to where this new girl was. She took a mental note of her; fiery red hair, blue eyes, and a rather thin build with a decent amount of muscle tone. In her head she already surmised what university she was from one of America's five military colleges. From which one she couldn't determine straight away, but if this girl had an accent she could pick it up easily. If she was from the East Coast it would likely be Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Pennsylvania, She seemed to be fairly short in height, at least three inches shorter than Kaiyla, but definetly taller than Eiki by four inches.

"Why did you follow? You're stuck in here too. And I don't like the sight of those clouds. Cumulonimbus with rotation and a green tinge. Now this is either one of four types of thunderstorms: single-cell, multicell cluster, multicell lines, and supercells. Supercell thunderstorms are the strongest and the most associated with severe weather phenomena. Mesoscale convective systems formed by favorable vertical wind shear within the tropics and subtropics are responsible for the development of hurricanes. Dry thunderstorms, with no precipitation, can cause the outbreak of wildfires with the heat generated from the cloud-to-ground lightning that accompanies them," Kaiyla admitted in her matter-of-fact tone.

She noticed the strange glances and looked to the ground with her arms around her waist. There she went again, talking in her usual jargon way and reciting whatever she learned in books. It was no wonder she had no friends. No one ever wanted anything to do with the thin-as-a-rake bookworm.

manifestations of the spirit, such as apparitions or the presence of a voice, and telekinetic activity.

Eiki watched her drawing and wondered exactly why she was drawing a map. It wouldn't make much difference when they couldn't leave. At least to him it was pointless. He listened to Kaiyla and, without realising, was pulling a strange face as she went on about thunderstorms. He slid his hand through his hair when he noticed the Australian react the way she was.

"Should we find shelter?" he asked briefly.

He was hoping either this new girl in camo clothes, or the bookwormy Australian would take charge. He was a theatrical arts major at the University of Los Angeles. Being a leader wasn't something for him. He knew that much.

xxx Mira looked up to the girl and listened to her speak then she said "I followed because I would hate for classmates to get lost, " she was a very straight forward girl, she then listened to her talk about storm clouds, Mira closed her sketchbook and gave a gentle smile saying "Don't worry, Knowledge is a good thing, especially in an unkown" she then looked over the boy, she still had her french accent, it just wasn't as strong as it used to be and it was mixed with New York, so it was bizarre. "Yes, we will take shelter" she then looked around and figured the buildings may collapse on them at any moment so it may not be too safe staying inside them. Mira began to walk around some, looking for a building that may be sturdy for them to stay in

xxxx Mira looked around and saw one, while she had been searching she had been working on the map as well, making sure not to make details to big. When she saw one, the small building seemed to be somewhat out of place, its walls were made of a rudementary stone brick. Yet it seemed more sturdy in the event of a heavy storm "We will stay in this building for now until we get a recon of the inside of these buildings to see what state they are in" she walked up to the door and pushed it, it was tough to open, like it had been shut for years, ofcourse it was. Dust kicked up from the door dragging on the ground. There was wooden flooring, and old shoes on the floor, some broken furniture and some old painting "Huh, this place must have been a small home.." she looked over at the window and noticed one of the shutters had broken off. "This place will have to do for now" she dropped her duffle bag and opened it, she brought out her sleeping bag/

xxxxThe sleeping bag was a special military grade sleeping bag, it was able to with several degrees below freezing, and it covered the entire body except for the face. The pattern was a black and grey camo, clearly this was meant for winter climates. Mira also unpacked her flashlight, and got her gun out, she had also bought a thigh hoslter, she put on the holster and made sure the gun was loaded and in safety before putting it in. "Alright, My name is Mira Lasatter, What are your names?" she asked looking to them both, it was important to keep track of who everyone was, Once introductions were done she would work on assigning tasks for people. Clearly splitting up isnt the best, but there were still things that needed to be done.

"Kaiyla Montgomery, His name is Eiki.......that's all he's told me," she replied, adjusting her glasses. She tugged at her yellow cardigan when she noticed the wind pick up and the temperature all but plummet outside. A normal storm wouldn't ever drop that much that quickly. Something was wrong with this place on many levels and she didn't like it. Yes, they were in a small house, and she wondered if they should look around for clues as to why they couldn't leave. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw something move outside. When she went to the window, nothing was there. She frowned and continued looking at the papers strewn across the desk under the window. All in Japanese, which wasn't something she could translate easily. If it was Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, or German she might be useful....but Asian languages weren't her forte.

"Do you know what these say, Eiki?" she asked without turning.

No reply. When she turned to ask again, he was walking along the bookcases and mumbling to himself. Yet, it wasn't what he was mumbling that send a chill up her spine, it was the fact that is sounded like many voices at once. She walked over to shake him to his senses, when she noticed his eyes glossed over. Was this some find of seizure? She tried to move him but it was no good, he brushed her off and continued looking for something.

As he reached out, Kaiyla noticed that a crystal necklace wrapped around his wrist moved to the left each time he went to grab one of the books. She was sceptical of supernatural things, but this was as real as she'd ever witnessed. The instant she managed to muster enough strength to pull him back, he grabbed a book and went tumbling backwards with her falling on him. She let out a groan and quickly assessed his condition when he managed to say something in English.

"Eiki, are you ok? What was that before? What did you want so badly?" she questioned.

He was about to reply with his full name after Kaiyla stated his first, but something came over him in that moment. While Mira was busy setting out her sleeping bag and Kaiyla was looking out the window, something brought his attention to the bookshelf. What he could see was a tall Japanese woman with long, braided hair in a white kimono and red sash gesturing to a book on the shelf. Each time he went to pick it up, she'd shake her head. She kept telling him to find her diary so that they might be able to save themselves. Unlike everyone in the village before. And just as she was telling him about what had happened, he was brought to his senses laying on his back on the floor with Kaiyla on top of him.

"Huh?" he asked as he stood up. "Where'd the lady go, I finally found her book," he muttered.

He looked around the room and couldn't see her. As he looked out the window, a little girl was bouncing a ball outside on the path as the rain pelted down. In the flashes of lightning, she smiled at him, but it was an unsettling smile. As he was about to turn to tell the girls what he was seeing, the child turned it's head all the way around before vanishing in the darkness of the storm.

"What the hell!?!" he screamed and tumbled backwards into the floor again.

Mira looked to them , seeing Eikis bizarre behavior. Mira had made a slight mistake in reaction, she didn't scream. Mira at first didn't even look startled bythe sudden change in Eiki's demeanor, then she formed a startled look on her face. She walked over to Eiki and Kaiyla kneeling down to Eiki and said to him "Look at me!" she barked the order, "You need to take a deep breath. and focus! Montgomery I need you to keep track on Rations. Right now we need to assume that we may be here for a while. I give an estimate of 2 months. This of course is hopefully a worst case. " she looked to Eiki "Clearly Eiki can see something that we cannot, that or he is having some form of hallucination. My medical knowledge is more for wound care and survival, not mental stability." Mira glanced over at her sketchbook "Can you assess Eiki?" she asked as she walked over and made sure to label the buildings she did manage to get on her map, the building they were in was labeled A01. The A was for a set square in the map, and 01 being the first and main building of importance.

Mira kept him like this, hoping he would calm down, she only stayed for a few moments before she got up and walked over to the duffle bag, she grabbed her flashlight and put the batteries inside. "
