Serpierite absolutely hated the rift. There was no ease to her discomfort as she had strode past the hall of shadows, complete with its own strange shadowed figures. Beyond that was the rough terrain rife with bloodthirsty youma. There was nothing pleasant with being surrounded on both ends by creatures that would swallow her whole gladly, if she let down her guard. She rarely traveled this far, having only been previously concerned with her energy quota for the month. Since that was taken care of though, she wasn't worried. But she was acutely aware of her weakness from the last battles. Her deliberate indifference towards this organization, her reluctance to become further involved may as well inevitably kill her. In order to improve both her combat abilities and discomfort with the rift, she had decided that becoming accustomed to the darkness and its inhabitants on a smaller scale was necessary. A pragmatic step was to train on the outskirts of the rift, where she was able to easily retreat back to the castle if need be. Sparring with smaller youma, she kept an eye out for a larger youma. Larger youma, according to rumors, could be beckoned as personal youma when one reached the rank of captain. To be frank, the lieutenant had no idea if she would make it to Captain.. but she didn't discount the possibility either. After the third or fourth youma, Serpierite let herself fall back in exhaustion. Some of her clothing was tattered, her weapon suffering the battered markings of her scuffles, and her stamina was down to dangerously low reserves. "This place is truly unpleasant." She murmured to herself, teal eyes darkening...

He could not stay hidden at Chase's house for more than a few days at a time, which meant that the majority of Wolfeite's time was now spent elsewhere. The Rift, which he had explored on the day of his youmafication, was now, for all intents and purposes, his home - of a sort, that was.
He didn't mind. The Rift and Negaspace provided a great deal of curious things, plenty of places for him to see and learn about. The deeper he delved, the more interested he was, and there was still so much he could make his own while here. Labyrinthite had brought him here right after his initial corruption into the Negaverse, and now Wolfeite was making it his own.
It was not necessarily rare for other agents to be down here, but it was unusual. Most avoided spending large quantities of time in the deeper part of the Rift, but it was here that Wolfeite roamed freely, lurking through the shadows, golden eyes glowing.
They were glowing now, as he heard footsteps, and then a sigh. Wolfeite straightened, his tail flicking behind him and stepped around a large mound of rocks that were all clustered together, ignoring the flutters of wings and the scratching of claws from some of the smaller youmas.
The figure was familiar. Wolfeite pressed a clawed hand against the rocks and surveyed Serpierite with narrowed eyes.
"What are you doing down here?"

She definitely hadn't expected a guest. So it was an understatement to say Wolfeite nearly gave her an heart attack, from the way she fell over from her previous position. She ended up lying on the ground on her back, her long locks strewn about, with an upwards gaze towards the source of the voice. Her hand flew to her chest to calm the pulsing beat. "Oh Wolfeite, it's just you.." Seriously, she should have gotten up, as undignified as it was for a lady to be on the ground. But the truth was, she was already dirtied, tired, and plain out of energy to care about these little things any more. Besides, he had alreadyseen her at her worst. What was left after that?
"I was training. Or I think I was training." One hand pushed back at her silver bangs with a slightly frustrated sigh.
A note of agitation entered her voice, realizing that she was still as weak as ever. "After the last battle down here, I realized.." She paused, wondering how to not sound like an idiot, "that I don't know very much about the rift. I thought that perhaps.. I would try to start with the source."
"I'm working without a general here.. or any supervision really. So you must excuse me if my direction is a little.." She made a spinning motion with her fingers, explaining that her methods might be off the beaten path. She was well aware that more than a few generals existed if she truly wished for guidance from them. General Labyrinthite coming to mind first. But at the moment, the lieutenent was entirely ensure of whom she wished to go to. It was not a choice to take lightly.. which was why she hadn't yet decided.
"Does that answer the question?"

He did react to Serpierite's surprise except to watch her, calmly and silently, as she jerked and tumbled over. Wolfeite remained where he was, half doused in the shadows around him, a purple glow emanating in a haze around the Rift, tinting everything in its path.
"I live here," he said, and stepped forward towards her, arms held loosely at his sides, though the hem of his uniform jacket was torn and frayed, and the kerchief was lowered, his face fully visible in the murky lighting. "So yes, it's just me here, at least for now."
His golden eyed gaze flickered over Serpierite's prone form, the annoyance in her voice. He'd heard things like that before; she was frustrated at her own lack of ability, or at least, that was what he gleaned from her bedraggled appearance and her comment about training.
Wolfeite pulled his gaze away and looked at their surroundings, at the craggy, shattered rocks, at the dimly glowing eyes in the distance, at the blackness that seemed so thick in places that sometimes it felt as though he were swimming through it, not walking.
"What sort of training are you trying to accomplish?" he asked her, returning gold to look at her. "To fight the youma? Or to learn about them?"

"You.. live here?" She asked with surprise. It didn't seem very comfortable for a human, but the key word was human. Even to an inexperienced officer like her, it was obvious that Captain Wolfeite was not entirely human. "Why don't you sit though if you're already here? It's too bad we can't have a cup of tea, but I don't suppose you're adverse to a conversation with me?" With a tilt of her head, she gave him an inviting smile.
His specific question drew her out of her pondering, as he specified: To fight the youma? Or to learn about them? The wolf captain termed it quite well, even if Serpierite was still vague on which goals she was actually aiming for. Propelling her upper body upwards to regain a posture that would allow her to more easily speak -- specifically a sitting posture now to face him; "Both, I suppose?" She grinned sheepishly, going on to explain further. "Though I find that I'm learning a great deal more about them as I fight them."
Her expression seemed mildly perturbed as she recalled them: some resembled pure animals, some resembled the reptiles and bugs she wasn't so fond of.. and others resembled humans. It was the latter most category that truly put her at unease. Even if the degree of resemblance differed within each youma, it was clear they never were or would become human. But it was precisely because they were so close to human, yet they were entirely youma, that disturbed her.
But the captain before her did not fit into any youma classifications that incited fear. She couldn't explain why logically. In fact, by logical reasoning- she perhaps had more to fear as he stood firmly in the boundary line between human and monster.
"Why not share a bit more about ourselves as fellow officers?" Since they didn't have a chance to speak on the battlefield. "My name is Lacie as a civilian. I'm in my twenties, already graduated, and I work for a bakery with delicious desserts." She didn't expect Wolfiete to divulge the same amount of information, but she would be happy if he even shared a bit of his life with her.

He half smiled, a glint of sharp teeth in the purple haze of the Rift.
"I can no longer maintain a human identity," said Wolfeite, and he did not sound upset about this at all, merely factual. "My power signature is too strong and can't be hidden properly for more than a certain amount of time while up on Earth. I spend a few days at my...residence..." Only the slightest hesitation there, because he wasn't exactly sure what to refer to Chase's house was. "...where there is a cat to conceal me temporarily; and then the rest of my time I'm here."
It didn't bother him. The Rift and Negaspace were interesting places with vast expanses that had yet to be explored. Wolfeite had all the time in the world now to do just that, and he spent his time prowling and searching and learning every little thing he could.
When he was not out hunting, of course.
He gave Serpierite a long, cool, assessing look, then stepped closer, tail swishing behind him with lazy sweeps. Wolfeite's ears were pointed upwards, and he took a seat in front of her on the ground, relaxed and calm, reclining back on gloved hands.
"The youma can be extremely dangerous if you're not careful," he said, and there was another glint of teeth, as though Wolfeite knew exactly how dangerous they were. "And if you decide to be reckless, you'll end up like me - one of them."
It was again spoken calmly and without any disparity behind it. Wolfeite had come to terms with what had happened to him, and he relished it now, embraced it fully. Labyrinthite's methods of teaching were undeniably unorthodox, but no one could say they weren't exactly working.
A dark brow arched.
Lacie, thought Wolfeite, already filing away the information, as well as a note about unbelievably naive, giving away so much of herself so easily.
After a moment's consideration, he said, "I had a civilian life as Archer Wren, but that is no longer. I can take a glamour of him for about three hours a day, and that's it. The rest of my time, I am Wolfeite, through and through."
