In this route, faster-paced for your enjoyment, you'll be fighting the rogue were and its accomplices. Your goals are to catch or destroy any weres in your way while keeping your fellows alive.

Read on for rules and mechanics!

THIS IS THE RIGHT HAND ROUTE
PostPosted: Thu May 19, 2016 6:34 pm

capture track rules
The fast route is the route tasked with actually physically finding the rogue werecreature! Because of this, they may traverse Blackfriars at will and speak to as many NPCs as they feel are necessary. However, the fast route characters must reach a majority before making any decision, and they may not split up.

Fast route players must post quickly: there will be two to three GM guide posts per day. Generally, these will start around 1500hrs PST, with a little wiggle room because shibe is an employed type of dude, and end around 0000 PST. The first post of every day will move the clock forward half an hour. If you miss a round of GM posts, your character's absence will be glossed over or they will be moved off to the sidelines.

This route requires a lot of moving around, and as such you must use the maps provided in the information thread to determine where you are within the second and third floors of the library. GM posts will say where you currently are in the library at the bottom in big font.

Each character has 20 hit points. You must keep track of your hit points at the bottom of your post! Should you hit 0 hit points, you will be sent to the first floor with a level 6 injury and will not be able to return to the fast route.

If you want to use a power, please quote shibrogane to let him know! Remember that overusing your powers will result in consequences at the GM's discretion, up to and including passing the ******** out.

Post your decisions at the bottom of your post in bold type. Be sure to mention where you want to go at the bottom of every post.

You can switch sides on the capture track ONCE. And only once.

objective: capture the rogue were
Your most important duty is capturing the rogue werecreature that attacked the downstairs gathering! This is a dangerous proposition: you have no idea what abilities the rogue has, why it's attacking, or even if it's aware of what it's doing. You also have no idea where it is, or whether it's alone. Now you've got to go find it before it finds you.

In the first IC post of this thread, I'll roll a 20-sided die. In every GM post to follow, I'll roll another d20, and every time I match my die the rogue werecreature--or one of its accomplices!--will get one free attack on the group. Once per round, you may roll a d20 to attempt to match my number, and if you do you get a free attack on any weres in your vicinity.

Attacks from this route automatically do 5 damage no matter who is attacking whom. The attacked player is determined by RNG, and the RNG list will be determined on the first mod posts tomorrow. It will be updated as necessary.

Each character only gets ONE ACTION per round. If you roll to chase, then you cannot roll to fight any enemies in your area, perform any magic, search the area, or join the slow route downstairs!
PostPosted: Thu May 19, 2016 6:39 pm

objective: stay alive
There are more enemies than just the one werecreature, of course. Otherwise it'd be too easy! Scattered throughout the upper stories are people who exhibit the same terrifying transformation as the rogue, and who are driven by the same pain and fear. They attack on sight, and it's your job to deal with them so that the first floor doesn't have to.

Attacking weres have 60 HP each; this is because there's way more of you than there are of them and they tend not to attack in groups. They roll 1d10 to attack. Players roll 2d6; your first number is the damage you do to the rogue. If your first number is ODD, you use your second d6 to determine how much damage the were does to you. Once you get a were down to 10HP or lower, you will have two options: mercy or murder. Any attack on a were below the HP threshold is an automatic kill.

Unless you have a specifically offensive magic power, you cannot use magic on the same turn as you attack.

You can find weres by successfully chasing one down or entering an area where one is lurking! You will be informed if you have entered combat by bright red letters in a mod post.

Should your HP drop to 0, you'll be forced to go downstairs with level 6 injuries, and will not be able to return to the upper stories! So choose your actions wisely.

Each character only gets ONE ACTION per round. If you roll to fight, then you cannot roll to chase the rogue werecreature, perform any magic, search the area, or join the slow route downstairs!

victory conditions
To successfully end this piece of the metaplot, you must complete these following objectives:

CATCH OR KILL THE ROGUE WERE. Should the were and his accomplices successfully KO all players or should the time reach 0430 on Thursday May 19 (ICly), you automatically fail and move the game closer to the BAD END.

STAY ALIVE. Should more than five players be knocked down to zero health, the game is closer to the BAD END.

Unlocking the BAD END requires three or more of the four total objectives (including the objectives on the SURVIVE track) are failed. Unlocking the NEUTRAL END requires two or fewer objectives to fail. The GOOD END happens only if all four objectives are successfully completed.

If one side of the capture track fails, BOTH SIDES FAIL.

Things have calmed, but in the relative quiet of the moaning injured comes the sounds of thudding from directly upstairs. There is a flash of strangely furred form along the concourse balcony, and then it is gone.

The police can't enter the building until the presumed active shooter has left the premises. There are people here who need help. Clearly the were won't leave on its own, so it's time for you to get a move on.

Isn't it?

THE NUMBER IS 16

THE TIME IS 1730

YOU ARE IN THE FIRST FLOOR ORANGE ZONE

WILL YOU GO UP?

first floor orange zone > staircase on the right

With some of the initial hysteria dying down, they were left with a choice. Tend to the wounded, or go stop the thing hurting people. The latter seemed more important; stop the danger at its source.

She looked to the stairs, which she had been eyeing earlier, and then crouched somewhat low, trying to stealth stay out of view of ... whatever the hell that thing had been.

"M'gonna go check an' make sure no one got stuck upstairs," she told the others, fanning away any attempts to stop her.

Jeremiah was moving with Algie, speaking to any officers (half to stay, half to come with) and looking out for Sergeant Kuroda. There was a noise and flash of fur that was caught. The detective lieutenant let out a hiss. Bloody hell.

"Kuroda!" he called out, tilting his head towards the left staircase when he saw him. "We need to start looking for our man. The fact back-up hasn't shown up is not good but we can't run the risk that it'll be back down here. As we've got eyes on him, let's move while we've got some indication of location."

Not even sure that they'd be able to stop anyone from coming with them either, once they were up. Not with everyone scattered and so few officers.

It only took Chris a moment to move Max to some chairs, making sure he was settled and finding him a bottle of water quickly. But he noticed that the group was starting to move to look for the guy and Chris, as reluctant to admit it as he was, this was definitely related to Other Ashdown. If there was anyone to try and handle this, Chris was definitely qualified.

He came up near Jeremiah, not really talking but deciding to follow him up the staircase. It was best to move up at this point as he highly doubted the guy had stuck around on the first floor with all the commotion.

The sudden disruption had America clutching her chest with a quiet yelp and curse, but the mention of blood, of trouble gave her a focus that shook away any bewilderment. Something was wrong and action had to be taken. Blood, damage, and a glimpse of something gave her a sort of familiar ground. There was half remembered advice from Uncle Junior floating in the back of her head, stuff about crime scenes and civilians and it was probably real good advice. Stuff involving going down stairs to see to folks that'd been screaming, maybe.

Of course she decided to stay upstairs instead. She came from a family of hunters and military folk, there was a reason Junior was a cop, Malby a PI. When push came to shove, a Jones ********' shoved right the ******** back. Quietly, to the rest of the group she said, "I think I saw something. I'm gonna go on ahead."

Already on the second floor. Searching the right side, going toward the stairs.

Orange zone > left staircase

Shun saw Chel heading towards the stairs, along with the flash of... was that fur? He could have sworn he saw something furry up there. Before he could call out to stop her, Jeremiah's voice cut through and caught his attention. Grunting lowly, he made his way over the older detective.

"Agreed," he nodded, drawing out his gun as he took a few steps on up, pausing briefly to make sure he wasn't about to go in before Mercer was ready to move out as well. He maintained trigger discipline, keeping the weapon lowered for the time being. He just wanted to be a little more prepared upon going in.

Spotting someone younger coming up, he raised a brow at him.

"You should stay back," he warned him.

Lily's world shifted from one of rain and moss to one of screams and iron, an acrid and sharp smell when she breathed in the air. So too did her perspective shift, and she felt the weight of her arms, the length of her legs and her spine, the twist to her posture as she rose from kneeling and stood. She flexed her fingers, her human fingers, ready to acknowledge her fever dream as over until she bothered to look down. Her nails were still hardened and black, sharpened into points, and without even checking she could feel the awkward counterbalance of her tail behind her, just as it had been the first time.

Her glance wavered as she looked back for the others, considering her options and what the Prideful One had said. There had been a fifth were...one that they knew about, and they had let him slip away unnoticed while they did their little prayer circle in the other world. She saw a smear of blood on the ground that dragged off to a corner, and there were people shouting, weeping, wailing, and in the distance, there were clatters and screams--

Lily had looked for him, but she hadn't pressed the issue because she didn't know what the stakes were, and now people were bleeding and dying, because she hadn't taken everything seriously. Some of them were even faces she knew.

"...this is on us, isn't it?" her voice wavered back to the other weres, face scrunching to contain the surprise and horror and grief that swept through her all at once. However, with the wave of despair came a crushing sense of resolution to the tune of the Prideful One's voice: You must stop it before it causes more harm. You are Pack.

Gulping down the exhaustion and the fear, Lily made a dash for the stairs on the right. When she began the climb, she saw a familiar flash of orange and pink that made her heart soar and tank at the same time. "Chel!" she shouted, her voice hoarse and uncharacteristically tense for the yoga instructor. "Did you see where he went?" There was no mention of it or monster--if he was pack, he was brother.

Lily's tail is sleek and she is beautiful, but those wicked claws are probably disturbing to those who have been so recently savaged by a similar set...

Top of the stairs

At the top of the stairs, Chel continued to crouch, waiting for the police guys to come up as well. She was reckless but she wasn't completely stupid; she preferred having a set of guns following her up.

A familiar voice sounded and Chel was trying to figure out where she'd heard it. Her eyes focused on the source and she realized it was Lily; that chick from high school.

With a tail. And claws.

She took a few steps backwards, moving towards the book shelves. "Those ... those're fake, right? You're just into some kinky s**t now, yeah?" Not Lily, it couldn't be Lily. The mousey little girl from high school? No way.
