From this event

No matter where Caroline's room at the basement, it didn't stop someone to stick a post-it at the her door, it dimly glowed in the dark. It said "I need your help for some questions, meet me outside?" Be there any closed-circuit television, it could only caught a figure dressed in red went away with skipped steps and swallowed by darkness after they put something on the door. They were petite, at least one thing confirmed. The camera existed or not might be able to capture the smile on their face even most of it was covered by the hoodie and black hair that bounced as they skipped away.

If the woman was careful enough, she'd flipped the paper over and found a map on the opposite side of the message, drawn like a child's work. It was an invitation from an unknown, would she accept it?

In truth, the note only needed to say 'help' to immediately motivate Caroline to find the person that left it. Just the map itself might have piqued her interest if she was feeling especially playful, but it all came together to push itself right up to the top of her list of priorities.

Still, she spent a kind of embarrassing amount of time marveling at the fact that sticky notes could glow. Not even her sci-fi books when she was a kid had things in it like this.

After she was through with her awed inspection of it, she made her way out of the basement and into the light to get a better look at the drawing on the back. Wandering at her leisure had introduced her to a fair amount of the island, but she wasn't sure that she knew how to get to many of those places again, so she trusted that her best guesswork could guide her where the map directed.

When she thought she might have it right, she skeptically looked at the map again, squinted, and decided to just go for it.

"Hello?" she called, glancing up from the note in her hand. "Came to help--came alone, if that's important."

While Caroline was spending her time wandering around, the figure who wrote the message was sitting on some low fences and eating a lollipop candy from the famous brand Chupa Chups. Their eyes flickered to check if someone showed up, the light-hearted swings of their leg told that the figure was not in any nervous mode.

Hearing the female voice, the figure hop off the fence. "Hello, thanks for coming." Arrived together with the voice was a petite female in a red hoodie, on top which sewn two cat ears, she'd welcomed Caroline with the sweetest and most satisfied smile. She was a stranger, the woman had never been her before, it's assured. Yet, that stranger's attitude didn't suggest that to Caroline, her smile presented with a misconception that they'd known each other.

The petite figure didn't stand close, the distance between them was just enough for Caroline to smell the artificial aroma of strawberry when she talked. "I hope you don't mind meeting outside, I'd rather nobody disturb our conversation or be watched by the surveillance cameras." She explained, telling Caroline one thing that the location was carefully chosen.

She neither hurriedly stated her purpose nor introduce herself, as if Caroline should have known that already. "Do you have a feeling that time moves too slow sometimes?" Above them and under the background of beautiful blue sky, cotton-like clouds were drifting at a leisurely pace.

Picking up on the girl's demeanor came quickly. As often as she forgot, even what she really didn't want to, these were the exact cues that Caroline always sought out to know that she should be playing along. That meant one less admission of something she had lost.

"Like your ears." Her casual response was in lieu of another greeting, just to avoid some kind of 'hey' loop, but her smile and the way her eyes lingered easily proved that she meant it. "And outside's better for most anything - can't beat fresh air. I don't mind at all. Especially if it's best for you."

The mention of straying from surveillance was not remarked upon, but hadn't gone unnoticed. Suspicion and instincts of self-preservation were smothered before they ever made it to the surface for any outward visibility, silenced by the reminder that this was to help. It would be hypocritical to condemn someone for wanting to lay low and stay away from watching eyes, as often as she had done just that.

"Time and I...aren't friends," she laughed, and as the sound of it softened and faded, she paused to think and draw in a slow, deep breath of the fresh air she spoke fondly about. It carried the scent of strawberry so effortlessly that it felt like the summery sugarsweet smell should always have been there. She smiled; it was nice, a step away from the comfort of familiarity.

"When it's not going too slow, it's going missing. Then coming back when I don't want it around. And it only goes too fast in the sorts of moments you wish that you could be in forever. So if I know anything about time, it's that I can't rely on it and can't trust it. It's either up to no good, or just mean and selfish." And she wasn't sure she'd answer, but she thought it might be worth a try: "Is it moving too slow for you?"

She'd pulled the ears in reaction to Caroline's comment and closed her eyes temporarily to take a deep breathe and feel the naughty breeze that wanted to blow her hood off. "That's a great comment, Caroline." It was the first time she called her name. "Time - It always moves too slow for me. Several years had passed...It's longer than I can withstand, long enough to weaken my will to keep an important promise." The blue eyes narrowed exactly like what a cat would do, thinking of the day she made it.

"Sometimes I'd rather some slots of my time go missing," despite of her mysteriousness, she was more friendly than she looked. She didn't divert Caroline's question or refuse to answer anything, still, she talked like the woman knew what she meant without giving cues. It felt like a puzzle was given to the woman and it was her job to solve it.

The petite female had never let her eyes stay on Caroline for more than a few seconds, so when she did it, they both realized it was closer to the core. "You're Mimsy's mom, right? But you look more like an elder sister of her." Her blue eyes gazed into the woman's eyes, as if spotting the similarities between the mother and daughter seriously. Her vision was fixed, concentrated and somehow piercing like when you alarmed a cat. The difference was just they don't glow in dark, without a smile, it'd be slightly unnerving.

The more catlike the girl's actions appeared, the more positive Caroline's reactions were. They were subtle changes, stance slightly more relaxed, expression even friendlier, but all gradually became more noticeable as they slowly accumulated.

"Oh...yeah. Yeah. I understand. Time is tough on things like that. It really starts to weigh on you. But if it's an important promise you've made to someone important - and a good one - it kind of keeps you going, right?" Her bright smile briefly became one more empathetic and hopeful instead. "Don't think I'd mind it going missing if I could pick, though. Time's not my friend, like I said, so it wouldn't be that nice to me."

At a glance, there were very few similarities to be found between her and her daughter. Mimsy had her father's hair, and eyes, and nose, and complexion, and build, and even his demeanor; but when examining with the level of scrutiny that she was, there was undeniably something identical in their smiles and the spark of life behind their eyes. When Mimsy wasn't hiding hers, at least.

While she soaked in what she'd taken as a compliment, temporarily distracted from the subject of time, Caroline readily showed off both of those things.

"Thanks," she purred, tone heavily implying an added 'for noticing'. "She's my daughter, but--" A thoughtful pause. "--maybe I'm more like an older sister to her sometimes. Working on that. She's happy with all the family she chose, and I don't want to...you know. Break it."

It wasn't that she deliberately pretend to look like a cat, or she knew the fact that the woman liked the animal. Through her time, she had get used to many things, that was one which she seldom stare at anyone with her big eyes, after her father told her they look like what beasts have. Gradually the eyes that could reflect cheerfulness become indifferent, she wanted to ridicule how much of a foolish girl she was.

The petite female squinted with a smile and her facial expression softened. "Good indeed, they only do things that benefit me. Just...it's painful for me to keep going, it hurts more the longer time passed. It becomes a struggle knowing no one would be waiting for you." She spoke, but her words, bit by bit, vanished into a quiet murmur when they escaped her lips. "Even I've been trying."

She could pull out a silk of pride from the mother, it was something pleasant, but it contradicted to what she had seen in Mimsy's memories. "Family...", she masticated the deep meaning of such a simple word, "Ahh almost forgot why I called you out-" Her blue eyes widened in awareness but shortly resumed. "Y'know, Mimsy is clever and nice, we're completely different in any aspect. Yet, we do share something in common -" She paused and gave Caroline a glance. "Even it's several years ago, sometimes it would bring up in my mind what I looked like in her eyes." There came another pause as she touched her own face, head, lips and lastly over her eyes.

"Did I have horns, sharp fangs or even red eyes with black sclera? I wish I'd a mirror that I could know what my mother had seen - she'd have never screamed in public. She always checked and made sure herself in proper manner. That's how a traditional woman she is." The petite female continued at the same time she raised her hand and allowed her palm face up as if it was a reflector. Her words didn't contain any emotion, slow and gentle, it could drive someone crazy when a murder talk like that next to them.

"What did you see on Mimsy when you called her a monster?" It couldn't even count as a reproach when her voice was extremely soft and light, the fixed blue eyes simply gazed at the woman, as if a curious student wanting her teacher's answer.
