Varinia receives 10.5 dmg.Generally speaking, big, fancy to-dos like festivals and tournaments weren't anything Teslaron had ever been able to enjoy (let alone participate in) in years past. He'd had children to look after and his master's family to tend to. In essence, things like this were generally more stressful than not. However, since he was a good-spirited man (or something to that affect, perhaps...), Tes decided not to hold it against previous fairs. He wanted to enjoy this one and had every right to do so.
Because this year was different, and he needed the distraction. He glanced toward the stands, giving a quick scan to see if he could spot any familiar faces, but before he made it so far, his opponent's voice reached him. Tes' gold gave flicked to the girl before him. A Fire girl who he'd never so much as seen before, and she sounded genuinely friendly enough, but he disliked her by sheer virtue of her race.
He smiled back, a crooked, half-show of teeth and dipped his head, "And to you as well." Genuine or not, it was as nice as he was willing to be to any Fire brat.
Tes took a half step forward, pulling his knife from his sheath, and without a moment's further hesitation, he ran at her.

Varinia receives 0 dmg.Nilah44 HE MISSED. The game is on. ;P Tes didn't exactly expect any Obans to be especially exceptional at combat. Particularly a woman. It probably wasn't a fair assumption, since he had no formal training, himself and hadn't seen a great many (or any) battles. So when his blade nicked her skin, the first rush of emotion to follow on its heels was smug satisfaction. He didn't plan on this being a long fight and probably not a very interesting one, either. He was going to knock the snot out of this girl, and that wold be the end of that.
He probably should've taken the tactical approach of moving away after launching his first attack, but he didn't. He was confident, and precautions like that were for losers.
Instead, Tes took his chances with another hit, aimed at her stomach, but the Fire woman's spear had a significantly longer reach, and when she lashed out at him with it, it knocked Tes sidelong, and he staggered backward, missing his cut altogether. He frowned. First down at his small, poor-reaching blade, then back at the girl.

17 + 11 = 28 to beatAlright, fine. So she wasn't going to stand by and do nothing. He should've expected as much. He didn't like it, but he should've expected it. The Fire woman came back at him with more ferocity than he'd originally given her credit for. Good-natured, or not, she had a spark of spunk that said this wouldn't end easily.
And that suited Teslaron just fine.
She jabbed at him, and he dipped beneath her attack, avoiding a hit as he kicked out at her legs, hooked his foot around her ankle, and tugged, before pushing back to a stand and flicking his blade around his fingers. He grinned back at her. "That's more like it. I like a feisty girl." He winked.

Varinia had a slight frown on her face as she felt her anger begin to grow.

The whole process was too exhausting, and there were enough other things to do at the festivities besides fight strangers. But he didn't like this Fire maiden (or any Fire anything, for that matter), so if he wanted to play around for just a bit, what was the harm in that?
He swung at her, then scuttled backward, twirling his blade between his fingers and grinning all the while. "Oh, I'm a lot a things," he agreed. "Funny, sure. Devilishly handsome, perhaps. Kind-hearted, forgiving, and always willing to have a friendly tussle with would-be slavers? Well." He straightened, flicked his blade into the air, caught it, and beckoned her forward with a taunting grin and teasing finger.

Tes couldn't imagine she'd have done nothing, but he also couldn't say for sure how he'd react to an obvious taunt in the middle of a fight. It never seemed to bode well. And since he was prepared for a full frontal attack, he slipped sidelong the second she was in range.
"Oh, I don't blame you," he scoffed as his palm pressed flat to the pole of her weapon as she swung at him. Tes grinned and shoved it off-course with the full of his weight. He flicked his blade around, toward her, and aimed a slash right at the rise of her collar bone before twisting away.
"I just don't like you, is all. You can't begrudge me that."

She quickly shifted her weight to narrowly miss his blade and allowed her spear to follow through. Vari didn't really care where she hit him, as long as she did.
