It was an excellent spring day in Ashdown. One great to be out and about on his bike. But Shun wasn't really out for a leisurely ride. No, he had a few things he needed to do around town. As he parked his motorcycle outside of a small store, a black a gold sports bike, he couldn't help but notice the Harley outside as well.

Pulling his helmet off, he tucked it under his arm and went over to take a closer look. He may not ride a Harley, personally, but he did always think they were well made bikes. No overratedness here.

Borr had stopped for a few things, which always led to a chat, and since it was a nice day he wasn't in a hurry. He was considered to be a bit of a pillar of the community, after all this time being forced to accept the responsibility, but he knew all the local business owners from the civic association which meant every store visit ended up being an exchange of gossip or inquiries into Millie's health if no one had seen her or Jesus in a while.

The large man looked exactly as someone would expect from the bike he rode. He was tall, broad, tattooed and in a black t-shirt and jeans. His large white beard today was tied near the bottom to keep it in line, his long hair as always pulled back.

The bag of purchases he held look small in his big hands and he moved to his bbike to stash the goods before fully realizing a fellow biker was admiring it.

"Nice bike-" He nodded at the crotch rocket, though in the back of his brain very tiny some voice yelled that it wasn't a real bike at all. "Haven't seen it around. New in town?"

Shun looked up as a larger man clad in leather, who he could only assume was the owner of this bike, approached. He regarded him for a moment, knowing that he had gotten the stink eye from bikers in the past for his choice of vehicle. Some were complete snobs about motorcycles. It seemed that this man wasn't though. At least not openly. It was for the better. As nice as it was today, he really wasn't in the mood to be taking that sort of s**t. Not that he ever was.

"I was about to say the same," he stated with a curt nod before going on to answer his question, "I moved in not long ago, yes."

With a pause, he raised his brow.

"Are you usually able to pick up on a new face that easily or was that just a lucky guess?"

The town was much smaller than the city he had hailed from, but he still figured it was big enough for people to not know everyone's face.

"Well I've been a bartender for the better part of forty years here in the city-" Borr's brow's rose at the questioning but he had a jovial sort of face so he looked only mildly amused, "-and I've never seen your bike before."

He chuckled and tilted his head, "And you don't carry yourself like an Ashdowner.. So call it a lucky guess."

Borr stepped forward and offered a large hand, "Borr Gunnarsen. I own Darlene's," He motioned in the vague direction of the establishment with his other hand, "on **** street."

"How does an Ashdowner usually carry themselves?"

With a slight tilt of his head, he glanced down at the outstretched hand. There was a small bit of hesitance, but he did reach out to take it to give a firm but brief shake. At the mention of the pub, he turned in the general direction of the place. He hadn't seen the man the last time he was there. Only America and the two old codgers.

"Shun Kuroda. I stopped by Darlene's a few nights ago actually... Food is not bad there."

Borr laughed, "We live by the ocean. Life's good, weird but good, and no one needs to stand up that straight."

His shake was all encompassing, one firm grip and a jostle.

"Ah yeah. The new detective." And before he could ask how he knew, "A lot of the PD comes to Darlene's. In Fact Detective Mercer and his hus-" there was a guilty pause (because he also secretly gossiped they were married), "-band.. come in on the weekends to watch british soccer league.. team.. things.. whatever. I get the channels in for them."

Clearly, they were friends.

Did he really stand straighter than most others here? He was going to need to watch for that. Not that he planned on slouching too soon. Bad posture was still bad.

Blinking, Shun had a faint light of what was either confusion or curiosity in his eyes. His expression didn't change much otherwise. He was just about to ask how Borr knew just who he was. Maybe America had gabbed about him or something. But no, it seemed the pub was fairly popular with the other officers. Given their opening times, and food, he figured he shouldn't be surprised about that.

What was more surprising was that Mercer was married. Maybe that was what that flower was all about. Odd how it never showed any signs of wilting...

"...Yes, that is me. I suppose word can travel fast around here. Has Ashdown always been this quiet?"

"Everything comes through the bar and alcohol loosens lips." Borr ran a hand over his beard lightly, "Gossip's only natural. I mean I know things about the old ladies in the church knitting circle that would curl your toes!" There was one of his belly laughs, hand gripping the round of his belly.

When the laughter died he got a bit more serious, winking and finger gunning, "But I'll never tell."

Someone passing by on the street greeted the large man, interrupting the conversation a moment, he waved and greeted back, grinning, before his attentions returned to Shun.

"Sorry about that-" He grinned under his impressive beard and came back on topic, "Quiet? It's gotten shaken up a bit lately, been quieter in the pass. Shame about those poor students disappearing.." Borr shook his head, "I hope to god they ran off together or something.. having adventures.."

It was a nicer thought than the alternative.

Shun furrowed his brow lightly. Sure, it made sense that the pub would get all sorts of gossip and rumors, but he always considered that to be both a bane and a blessing. Having a foot in the going ons of an area was always good. But at the same time, he would not want to know just what the sewing circle is gossiping about.

As another man came by to greet Borr, the detective stood by and watched the little exchange in silence. Regardless of the biker attire, it seemed like the big man was a pretty good guy. Not that appearances were much to judge by anyway. Some people have told him that he looks like some Yakuza hitman sometimes, and that certainly wasn't the case. In another life, he could have gone down that path, though.

Shun nodded grimly as the case of the missing teens came up.

"Well. No bodies have been found thus far, from my knowledge. There is that, I suppose."

Granted, if they had been dumped in the ocean, it may be more difficult to recover them, even if they did fish around for potential corpses. Some missing persons cases never resolve.

Borr frowned deeply. Obviously them not being alive was a consideration, but he didn't like to think or talk about it. Shun being new, not knowing him, meant he didn't know how much Borr viewed Ashdowners all as family. The policeman's comment came off to him as a bit unsympathetic.

"Yes.. s'pose.." Borr moved to his bike, slung a leg over it, and pushed himself upright. He didn't yet start it up.

"What's your favorite food?" His smile was quick, to move on and change the subject.

The sudden change in topics made Shun tilt his head. He wasn't exactly aware of how much it bothered Borr to think about the fate of those three missing teenagers. But, he shrugged it off, taking a step towards the store they were lingering outside of. The new question, itself, seemed kind of random, but he suppose it was in part due to the big man's occupation.

"Grilled salmon, probably," he shrugged.

"Come to Darlene's this weekend for dinner. I'll have my guys whip you up the best grilled salmon you've ever had." He grinned, "Or at least better than 'not bad'."

He then winked, "On the house of course."

His helmet was put on, beaten and round, as well as a pair of black sunglasses. The bike was started with a familiar rumble.

"A Welcome to Ashdown meal!" He boomed, surprisingly, louder than the bike.

There was another tilt of his head. Shun wasn't about to be complaining about a free meal, especially if it was good food, but that still came as a surprise to him. Immediately his mind jumped to questioning if Borr had some sort of ulterior motive for being so nice. People usually had some sort of reason, right?

Or maybe that was just how things were, and people were just less shitty in a smaller town such as Ashdown.

"Thank you..." he replied, trying to keep the wariness and hesitation out of his voice.

Nodding curtly, he went on to head into the store to pick up whatever it was he needed there in the first place.

Thanks for the rp!

Borr revved the bike and grinned, holding up a hand in farewell before he pulled away. Yes he was just that nice.
