Hobbies: Listening -- Dorian likes to listen. Whenever he can, for whoever needs an ear- whether they have happy stories or sad stories to share. He volunteers at a crisis center, answering phone calls on his days off.
Purging -- Dorian started keeping a journal when he was sixteen. Since then, he has filled three books with his thoughts and anxieties and secrets. He does not write every day, but he writes often. It is a cathartic experience for him. The safest, cleanest way to purge himself-- other than cleaning, which is something he does compulsively. Everything in it's place, and a place for everything. He is very particular about diet and exercise, as well.
Murphy and Rocket -- Murphy is a dog. A brindle pitbull Dorian brought home from the humane society. She is Dorian's best friend, and his baby girl. She has her own bedroom, filled with toys, but she doesn't really use it.
Rocket is a cat. A silver tabby who followed Dorian home one day and never left. She is Murphy's shadow. They keep one another out of trouble when Dorian is at work. Instead of working at work, Dorian doodles a comic exploring the sorts of adventures Murphy and Rocket might be getting up to while he's not home. Such episodes include, but are not limited to,
Murphy and Rocket go to the Zoo. Murphy and Rocket Meet the Queen. Murphy and Rocket Save the World.Virtues: Bleeding Heart -- Compassionate and empathetic to an extreme degree, Dorian never met a worm that he did not feel for. He cares deeply -about people, about animals, about the rainforest- and experiences the world through a magnifying glass of emotion.
True -- Loyal as the hound of Hades, Dorian is the sort of man who would stand by the Devil if he had a good enough sob story. He stands upon a pillar of what he likes to think of as understanding, and would sooner chew off his own hand than betray the faith of a friend.
Nonjudgmental -- Dorian
gets people, and does not feel it is his place to criticize. He walks a fine moral line, and does his best to give advice, but is often confused about what is right and what is not. He is thoughtful and intellectual, soft on ethics but not on feeling.
Scrupulous -- A man as vulnerable to the changing tides of emotion as Dorian is has two options- to either lose his mind, or find some other way to exert control over his life. He is a very particular person, and as meticulous about the details of his private life as he is the make-up of his home. He has as many secrets as he keeps, and does not like to share.
Flaws: Bleeding Heart -- While it is good to be compassionate, Dorian feels so intensely that it exhausts him. He wants so badly to be an optimist in a world where people are intent upon being cruel to one another, and is often crushed when his efforts at goodness are overwhelmed/confused by an innate ability to empathize with the darkness in a person as well as the light.
Obsessive -- In Dorian rigorous attention to detail and extreme sensitivity combine to make him more than a little bit neurotic. He is a compulsive over thinker, driven by something inside of him that makes it virtually impossible to let things go and move on. He can not abide not knowing, and will
pick and pick and pick until he's either found what he was looking for or gotten his a** kicked.
Hesitant Hedonist -- Dorian feels a lot, and he feels hard, for other people as well as himself. This sensitivity gives birth to a sort of hedonism that can be as self-destructive as it is fun. He is sensual, but there is a cork in his wine bottle, and Dorian spends most of his time ignoring a compulsion for intimacy in favour of maintaining control of his life- and of his heart. Sometimes the cork pops, and he goes on a bender, and he hates himself a little bit after.
Naive -- An eternal optimist, despite his own self-destructive tendencies, Dorian is determined to believe in the best of people. This, combined with an innate insecurity, makes him an easy target for manipulation and mind games.
