It has been a good night. A really super great night involving a a fruity umbrella drink the size of her head with tiny swords in big pieces of fruit, a couple Coronas on the beach, and a lean-y slant-y walk home. She had also, by a Matter of Great Fortune, found out one of her uncle's favourite authors lived in town. After hearing about this and certain Feelings she had publicly announced, a Good Samaritan had even given her his phone number, so she could text him for an autograph and maybe also Feelings.

They were asleep, in bed. Jeremiah's fingers were curled against the line of -
ding!
No, not moving. If it was important there would be another text.
ding!
Jeremiah growled and pressed his face into greying brown hair but he was already getting shoved to just get the bloody thing. Especially when there was a third ding! The detective was sitting up with a hiss of breath, the sense of pain along his back flaring up. It was not even raining and his lover was already pressing a warm hand to his back.
Reading the text he was smoothing a hand across his face. Who the hell was drunk texting him? ... never mind talking about how handy some Algie was. Some irrational level of jealousy reared up.

America was happily getting cozy in her own bed, warm with drink and good feelings. Reading the messages, she pressed a giggle into her pillow before responding.

At least it was clear the person who was sending him texts was obviously not driving otherwise he would be inclined to have to follow up. Yet Algie's hand was reaching up, a faint mrrrrrr reverberating. Jeremiah felt warmth along his spine and he sunk a little lower in the bed.
If ever there was a message to ditch the phone and return to pillow duty, that was it.
