Normally when Chel sat on the stoop of one of many of her modern-consorts she would have a beer, watch the city go bye and leave it be. Especially when it was such a hazy sunset evening; the kind that was contented by sitting and wasting your life away. Especially when said one-nighter had left for their night shift and given you the boot, but said you could at least hang out on the porch.

Except at this exact moment, a girl with fiery orange hair walked by, holding up a photo and clearly a little bit lost (or maybe not lost, maybe just where she needed to be, but searching nonetheless).

So Chel did what any self-respecting citizen would do when greeted with the sight and brought her fingers up to her lips to let out a loud wolf whistle. "You look good in those shorts, but they'd look better on my floor, hun."

She was lost, but it was the right kind of lost. The sort that had some new sight around every corner, and matching up bits of the town to her mother's old photos was the perfect sort of prize for America's wandering game.

At the sound of the whistle, the girl's head shot up, catching sight of pink hair and bold eyes. Meeting them, America grinned and called out, "Have to be a pretty nice floor to compete with all this!" She gestured to her, well, everything, and then gave her a** a slap for emphasis.

Never let it be said that America Jones didn't know how to take a compliment.

Chel let out a howling laugh, the kind that threw your head back in laughter. Never let it be said that Chel couldn't appreciate some confidence.

"Fair enough pretty lady. What you lookin' for?" she asked, not making any movement off her stoop to help just yet, but still interested in where the response would place her.

Calling up, America answered, "Is there a place on this building that has like...a bit of a face in the wall? Like in the texture of the..." And here she paused, face scrunching up in thought. "Plaster...uh...stucker..." She snapped her fingers, "Stucco!"

Chel raised an eyebrow and leaned back on her elbow against the side of the stoop. "The only thing stuck here is my a** t'this concrete."

She was at least interested enough in America's line of questioning though. "Why you lookin' for faces crammed in a wall?"

That was fair.

America took the question as offer enough to close the distance, eyes still straying toward the walls as she did so, though Chel was a definite distraction to the search with all the the pink and ink the girl had about her.

Holding up the photo again, she turned it so Chel could see. It was a photo of the wall of a building, catching the corner of a window, a small bird perched on the ledge. It definitely looked like it matched the building in question, and, if you kind of squinted and applied imagination, the textured shadows did seem to form a crude face on the wall.

"I'm tryin' to match some photos to places. This one looks about right, but can't seem to find the face."

Chel pushed off her elbow as the girl approached, interest piqued by the seemingly random request. Her eyes took a moment to focus on the smaller object, but she eventually made out the small bird, though she didn't see the face at all.

"Well ain't you a ********' basketcase," Chel said in the same way someone complimented a friend. She at least heaved herself off the stoop to get a better look at both the picture and the girl. Soft freckles, orange curls- very nice. "Why the ******** you chasin' a photo?"

With a snort for the name, America offered a chagrined little smile. "Got an album full of them. What brought me to these parts, to be honest. But it's fun? And kinda...neat, I guess. They were my mom's from twenty years back, so it's a bit of mmmm..."

She hummed a moment, rocking back on her heels. "A bit of a time travel."

"Weird," Chel concluded, but Chel never used the word with a negative connotation. She didn't have any connection to her mother and couldn't find the same emotions.

"Any reason? Honorin' your mom's memory or somethin'?" As soon as the words were out of her mouth she bit her tongue back. You didn't just ask about someone's dead mom.

(Well no, apparently Chel did).

"Can't really honor someone you don't know," America offered easily, not feeling particularly awkward or offended by the question. "But maybe that's something this could lead to." It wasn't something she'd considered before, and the smile she shot Chel was brilliant and holding a sort of gratitude.

Chel's face was described as an internal yikes, but America's easy demeanor smoothed her own. It was an odd reversal, not being the one that defused the situation. Interesting.

"Well, four eyes are better than two, yeah?" A remark to invite herself along.

Beaming, America obviously had no objections as she chirruped, "Really? It'd be funner too, gotta say."

Moving to stand next to Chel, side by side, she held up the picture again. "You notice anything that might cast a shadow like this?" She pointed to the bottom corner, a weird angular and thing shadow crossing over it. Like a bizarre iron post of a fence, or particularly ugly and tall lawn sculpture.

It wasn't like Chel had anything to do on this stoop anyways. Really she was just wasting time until she had to go home; now she could waste time creatively.

She followed the girl down the street, glancing over the photo. "Mmm not that I can think of. M'not actually from this part of town." Far too nice for her. She did hope the shadow was a lawn gnome though.

"This next door house is kinda similiar..." America rocked back on her heels, angling to get a better look at the sides. Unfortunately there was a fence blocking the view. Fortunately, America didn't really mind fences.

"I guess we can both get a little of it today!" The fence was tall, but sturdy and not at all pokey or splintery, so as far as fence hopping went, it was almost as easy as if it had been open in the first place. America landed on the other side with an Olympic victory pose.

Chel watched this action and while she had nothing against trespassing, she did have something against the physical activity it was going to take to hop that fence.

"Uh sugar, you wanna hit the door from the other side?"
