Lucas woke up after the Red Lady had visited (he'd slept, after all) and had an immediate dilemma on his hands. It started with this was not ******** normal and continued into what the hell was he supposed to do about it? Was he actually a were-thing? Did he dream that all? And if not, did the woman magic him just to make him think he was a were-thing? He spent an hour taking his time to shower, do laundry, and mull over what to do. While he desperately wanted to talk to Autumn, she had not yet responded to his gifts, and he assumed that was answer enough to how she felt. There was Rylan, but he hardly knew the guy and the last thing he wanted to do was ruin their perfectly good visit with 'hey I'm actually crazy can you help me' conversations. How did one research things like this-- And it hit him. Zac. The teen who was self-motivated and researched everything, might have an answer. Maybe this wasn't anything new? Maybe it was just...swamp gas? Yeah, it was far-fetched, but so was your hand turning into a furry paw. Lucas flopped on his bed and dug around for his phone on the charger, pausing before calling - remembering Zac did have a job - and instead going to text. Quote: Zac! I could use your help with a thing if you're not busy.

He was preparing to head to classes when he got the text. Surprised, but pleased he grinned, no reason at all for him to think that there would be anything odd from the request after all. Lucas had never been to ‘Other’ ash down yet, so maybe he just had questions he wanted answered. He slid his bag over his shoulder and texted back. Chrystali I think I can fit it in! What do u need? After all, skipping class wasn't something he -did- unless you counted the days where he'd been given a pass because he'd been 'lost' in the 'woods'

He was about to get back up and continue being semi-productive to keep from thinking too much, but his phone buzzed, drawing his attention back to it. Pleasantly surprised at Zac's speed of reply, he returned the favor, face half buried against his pillow. Quote: Do you have anything on half-beasts? Like we're? Lucas cursed singularly. Frickin' autocorrect. His toes tapped nervously against the edge of his bed. This answer could change everything.

there was a pause while he read the texts, the first one confused him till he read the second,w which made him laugh for a moment, then curiosity took over. Chrystali I'm sure we do, do you want me to dig and see what I can turn up? I know there are a few kinds out there, there are even different kinds of how to....'were'. He went...full nerd when he replied. Stared at the reply for a second and sent it anyhow. He really needed to learn to abbreviate in case people had text limits. Quote: Basically I can get u a full (moon) run down! ;-P biggrin

Damn. Nothing immediately. Lucas wasn't impatient, but...it was kind of life altering information. He bit back a smile at the second message, remembering that Zac was much younger than he and still had that sort of youthful optimism he himself had. Up until a few days ago, anyway. Quote: If that's cool, let me know what's up? I can come by if it's easier. He really owed Zac. Peace of mind - even if just momentary - was priceless these days, it would seem.

Zac thought about that for a moment, and then perused his options mentally. Chrystali give me 20 min, and we can meet @ the 'Waffle Wonderland" if U are ok with that? I will bring the books and print outs!

Waffle Wonderland to Wax about Weres. How poetic. Lucas cracked another smile. It'd probably take him that long just to get dressed. Hefting himself off the bed, he began to do just that, trying to tell himself it was going to be okay. It'd all be okay. _________________________ Twenty two minutes later, Lucas made his way into the given destination, assaulted by the scent of waffles. Usually, he'd be all about that, but just then it made his stomach knot. Nothing really seemed appetizing, he realized, having not eaten since the day before. Quirking his lips, he spotted Zac and made his way over to him, managing to wrangle a smile in place as he approached. "Hey, thanks for seeing me on such short notice," he greeted the other, sliding into a seat across from the teen. "I'm not even that nice to people."

Zac set right to work. He dug out books from the Library on Werewolves and other shapeshifter, historic and modern mythology. 3 books were really the only ones that ‘felt’ right, but DANG he was glad he had a flash drive. He saved web pages, screen shots, references to everything from madness, cursed towns, wolf-skin belts, he even did a small if… begrudging nod to ‘Twilight’ and thanked god that the were-wolves didn’t sparkle too. He then went back and printed out a handful of the ones that rose to the top most often and then he was off to the Waffle Wonderland. Which was good because… waffles, and Waffle Wonderland served -real- maple syrup if you asked. He dropped the books onto the table with a grin at Lucas as the other man sat down, then, he added the papers on top of the books, and finally, like adding a cherry on top of a sundae, he dropped a… A Tiny Red Panda. He hesitated then and then added. “….flash drive.” He felt his cheeks heat and he cleared his throat. ‘I …yeah it has links to web pages in a word document, um, screen shots of ones that seemed good but I printed the ones that looked best and put them …here…and these were a little more historic so this one has like, wood block prints and um… um. I’m going full nerd on you.” Too much?”

A faint tingling starts up in Lucas's hand. Not the flesh one. The metal one.

Lucas' expression fell into one of shock, wide pale eyes taking in the books and print outs, as well as the crowning red panda. "You did this -- all of this in twenty minutes?" He was equally as impressed as he was surprised, eyes flickering between the goods and Zac, who seemed very pleased with himself. Unable to repress a smile, he lifted his prosthetic hand to reach for the flash drive -- -- and froze, staring at his hand as if perhaps he had grown another in its place. Awkward, a little jerky, he drew his hand back to his lap, trying to keep his face neutral but showing just slightly too much white in his eyes to really pass it off. "I thought," his voice was distant, absent, "it looked like a...what's it called..." His good hand trembled, fingers shaking as they ghosted over his prosthetic hand, trying to see if he could feel it...on the hand that wasn't there. Roaring red flags filled his mind, fear lacing through his attempt at coherent thoughts, wildly thinking he wouldn't be entirely surprised it he felt fur rather than metal. He realized he hadn't finished his sentence. "...Pokemon," he murmured, half apologetic, half tense.

“Y…yes?” He said hesitantly in reply to having down all this research in a compressed amount of time. “I um… I… do pretty well remembering where I saw books last.” He said by means of explanation. It was better than than trying to explain that he thought he -might- have a somewhat preternatural back for research. The shift of expression though gave him great pause. “A….are you a…alright?” He said carefully. “Did…I do something? Does it…hurt? Should I…do something?” He asked anxiously.

s**t. He didn't mean to worry Zac, but it was hard to think past the fact he was feeling with a limb that wasn't there. Lucas distractedly looked towards his hand, then back to Zac, apologetic and lost. "I'm -- I'm sorry Zac, I uh -- I've been having phantom pains lately. It just -- catches me off guard sometimes." It was still metal. He was fine. He was going to be okay. Drawing in a deep breath, he managed to summon another smile, honest and tentative. This was not the time to say he was afraid he was a monster. He didn't even have proof that it was real -- that's what all the research was for. Part of him was hoping there was nothing to find and maybe he was just hallucinating or having some sort of bad reaction to what had gone on with Autumn. "I, um -- I mean, you guys haven't -- run into anything were-like, other than -- other than Pax, maybe?" he asked, unsure how to even pose the questions. It all sounded so absurd out loud on his ears.

“… are they..new?” He asked hesitantly. Was ash down already starting to mis with this poor man’s life? And then the rest of the question, he tipped his head to one side, gaze pale but studious. “… H…have you had odd dreams recently? Do… do they have to do with…” he put his hand on the books and papers lightly. It was like nothing he’d experienced so far, but my god… didn’t he know already that you could only expect that it would surprise you? “I’m not sure Pax qualifies as a were but, it… it seems like, I don’t know. I mean… Pax reminded me of slender man when we first saw…it? So… I don’t know if Other Ashdown influences our world and mythology or … if we influence It. So I mean…anything could…be?”

Silence stretched for a moment, and Lucas nodded, thoughtful. "It um -- started about a week ago? Maybe it's just the weather changing on this side of the coast and I'm not used to it yet." He tried to offer a comforting smile, shaking his head slowly. "No, I've -- I actually had trouble sleeping til last night. I don't recall any dreams though, I was pretty damn tired." He chuckled, faintly, apologetic he couldn't be of more help. --Slenderman? "This Other place is a real work ********?" The word was said a little too loudly, the table slamming with Lucas' prosthetic knee under it, his expression briefly twisted into panic before he pushed it away in favor of shock, gripping his metal wrist as if he could keep it in place. And why shouldn't he?! It was his arm -- fake as it was -- and what the hell was going on?! That had never happened before -- ! Lucas lifted his eyes back to Zac, wide. "I'm -- I'm sorry, I uh --" There were no words. There was no way to explain what he didn't know himself. " -- I think I'm in trouble," the words were barely audible but tightly wound, his heart pounding so loud in his ears he almost felt deaf to the restaurant around them. It hurt. His fake arm <******** voice barely rose about the racket of the place. "Maybe I should -- go."
