The garden is, in a word, perfect. Rows of hedges branch out to the left and right of a central fountain, which still has water flowing despite the hour. It is crystalline and perfect, if the group looks down into the water’s surface.

Atop the fountain is a statue of Autumn. She is once more dressed in clothing from another time, another world. The gown is carved flawlessly, fluttering in an unseen wind. She holds the corner of her dress and her gaze is averted from the viewers below- but yet again, she seems sad. Distant. It is a bit of a theme, at this point.

The hedges grow a variety of roses, in all shapes and colors, and are meticulously tended. Not a leaf is out of place in the beautiful square shapes, the flowers serving to accent the richness of the green leaves. Clearly it is a well-loved garden, whoever might be caring for it.

Around the ring of the garden are trees with fruit beyond one’s wildest imagination. Apples and oranges grow on the same plant, of enormous size and crispness. They are more rich and succulent looking than any counterpart ever could be in the other world. The trees themselves are lush and thick, providing enough shade for a perfect picnic on a warm summer’s day. If Other Ashdown ever had warm summer days, anyway.

In the distance, there are plainer hedges which seem to be forming an enormous circle. If the team inspects more closely, it appears to be a maze.

The sensation of bugs crawling on his skin is one that he could do without but at least it is a change of pace from edginess that he's been experiencing since they stumbled upon this place.

If this was truly Sunny's home, then ... Well. The girl needed more than a few hugs (not that he could deliver any).

He first notices the fountain and it is what he approaches. "Bit of a theme going on," he snorted, stepping towards it and looking it over. The garden is worth being a little enamored with (the inner gardener in him very much interested but pushed aside) but Jeremiah absolutely does not trust it.

Or the fruit that hangs from the trees. Been there, done that, other ashdown food could rot away into nothingness for all he cared.

Zac shivered, the feeling of insects that had preceded their entry reminded him -far- too much of spiders. But he could do this, he had to do this… it was, a trick. He had not… died… he had not been -eaten.

He could do this.

“Maze…” he said… his eyes drifting towards it. “s**t…” He swore softly. Inhale…exhale.
He felt like at that moment he understood why people smoked. He instead filled the gaps by chewing the edge of his thumb, it was angry to the touch, a habit done too often

“Snow white…rose red… down the rabbit hole… … alice in wonderland.” He rambled.

Friend… why -friend-, why was -that the trigger to pain?

That stood out as much as trick, as much as -not me-, just a feeling. Just a half completed thought.

The feeling of insects on his skin was horrendously unpleasant and Chris shivered, trying to will off what didn't exist. But it didn't last too long (or he grew to ignore it, at least) as he inspected the room.

It looked.. beautiful. The roses were gorgeous, the apples were... tempting but he had learned his lesson from Autumn about eating s**t he shouldn't and he didn't trust his place anyways.

His gaze from the trees was drawn away when he heard Zac, looking at the hedges himself. He was right, it was a maze.

"A maze... well this looks great," He muttered, eyeing it distrustfully. "Anyone have some thread, by any chance? Rope?"

"Jesus Christ-" Algie shivered and ran his hands over his arms. Now that he'd felt that, he'd be feeling bugs on him all day. The greying man swiped at his sweater sleeves in paranoia before he could enjoy the garden for all it's visual splendor. Even then his hand rubbed the back of his neck and he shivered again.

"I do not want to go into a maze.." Algie grumbled before truly noticing that Zac had come in with them. "Zac.. you alright?"

He frankly looked and sounded a bit unhinged. Muttering about rabbit holes was never a good sign.

It seemed Algie's lack of desire to go into the maze had gone unheard by the powers that be. Suddenly, tendrils emerge from the ground, wrapping themselves around the book keeper's legs. They TUG him into the dirt, soft and rich and fertile, and for a moment, it seems he is being buried alive.

But then, he emerges. He has been separated from the others, thrown- dirt and all- to the entrance of the maze. Before he can react, the hedge shoots up behind him, trapping him.

Something in the leaves rustles. He'd better get a move on to the center of the maze. There are no shifting walls; the maze does not cheat unless he does.

Nonetheless, he gets the feeling he is not alone.

--

Chris, Jeremiah, and Zac blink. They are suddenly on a platform on the side of the mansion, too high to jump to safety. The entirety of the maze stretches before them, and it would seem they are spectators to Algie's unfortunate game. They may talk to each other, but if they try to call out directions to the maze, they find their mouths full of slugs. We wouldn't want any cheating now, would we?

Unfortunately, from their perch, they cannot see the finish. The spectators may only see as much of the maze as Algie does, as he successfully completes it.

GAME START
After the initial reaction of Algie, the game begins. I will post with your direction options for Algie to turn. You may make it an RP post if you desire, but all I need is "right", "left", or "straight ahead." If it is a correct choice, you progress as typical through the maze.

If it is not correct... well. Let's just say you don't want to find out.

He was honestly going to lie. He was going to say he was -fine-… but then, the vine. Alg, was gone… just like that.
A blink and…

“…oh god… This is… this is like, Labyrinth gone…so wrong.” Zac said dropping to his knees and peering over the edge, trying to gauge the distance to the ground.

“Do you think he can see us?” He said anxiously.

He was shivering, Someone, was going to get hurt, or worse, someone was going to -die-.

Algie wasn't expecting to be grabbed, he yelped, struggled only for a moment before he wooshed into the turf. It was all a rush really and when his eyes opened he was in the entrance to the maze and a hedge was rising behind him close enough that he had to take a step forward.

"Well s**t." His heart beat heavy and anxious in his chest and he had to brush loam from his sweater and shake out the book he now held in a death clutch before he stuffed it into his bag still hanging on his shoulders. Spitting a bit of dirt and wiping his mouth he called out to the sky, "JEREMIAH? CHRIS? ZAC?"

There was noone in his vicinity. Just ominous leaf rustling.

He knew the maze had looked to be circular, but he'd only seen the front curve of hedges. Was he looking for a way out.. or the ******** tri-wizard cup? There was another dragged out second of brushing dirt from his hair and person before he took his first steps.

It was a flicker at the edge of his vision, the ground looking odd, and then ...

"Alg!" Jeremiah was moving, trying to grab at the other man only to find him pulled under the earth before he could do anything. The detective was mad, fingers digging at the earth and he blinked -

- and he was suddenly on top of a platform, pushing himself to his feet and letting out a growl as he took in what he saw now. Algie in the middle of the goddamn maze.

"We're up here!" He called back, brushing the dirt off and his eyes looking over the layout, and already trying to pick out the right way to go. When he opened up his mouth to say something, to give a direction, he was spitting a slug. More than one.

Jeremiah growled.

"Are you bloody ******** kidding me?" The detective went right past mad and straight to a cold fury.

Algie turns, narrowly avoiding a dead end. He continues down the straightaway, until he reaches another turn.

The reply sounded off, distant, but he couldn't really tell where it was coming from.

"WHERE IS UP HERE? ANY HELP? NO SPHINXES OR INVERTED FOG?"

Left or right? He went with his first instinct.

"Platforms! We can see you and the maze!" Jeremiah rubbed the back of his hand across his mouth. "Can't tell you a goddamn direction apparently either! Something is stopping that!" Not explaining slug mouth but he was going to be brushing his teeth so much ...

"I don't see a bloody sphinx or fog but ..." Who the ******** knew. Jeremiah's eye twitched as he watched Algie's turn.

The Face Zac was making regarding the slugs, was…

Epic in its level of disgust.

“Please be careful.” He said anxiously. “Please please be careful, this place will really screw with your head, and your senses.”

“Maybe … maybe we can figure out another way to communicate with him, but god… I can’t… I can’t see the end of the maze. The best we can hope to do is MAYBE lead him away from dead ends, but thats only if he can see us.”
