Once wasn't uncommon, really. Stranger things had happened. But the second and third time, in a short time span? Now that was something unusual. Now, Carin stood, her to-go container in her manicured hands, all ready to go enjoy it on the park bench outside…but she couldn't stop staring at the snoozing girl. There were alarm bells going off in her head, and she was torn; interrupt potentially needed sleep and maybe help, or go outside, mind her own business, and potentially feel guilty about it later.

Well, that was no real contest.

The short, larger-set woman took a sudden seat across from the sleeper, taking a moment to adjust her crocheted shawl and to smooth down the folds of her colourfully polka-dotted dress. The to-go container was simple set in front of her, and she leaned forward, inspecting the other girl to see if she were at least alive.

"Hi, excuse me, miss?" She implored, still trying to determine that her newest companion was not, in fact, dead.

She'd been dreaming pleasant dreams for once. Dreams of a place without things like debt collectors and neighbors who let their children set their apartments on fire. The good things. Things she didn't have the pleasure of knowing. It was fairly obvious from her state of dress that the woman didn't exactly have much going for her at this time. Even from her curled up sleeping position one could tell that her clothes were not well cleaned and her hair may have even had a twig or two in it. She'd made no motion of hearing the other woman other than a soft grunt at first, her arm waving slightly in response. Really it was a miracle she even managed that much, but after a moment Mel felt the presence of someone watching her and couldn't ignore it any longer. As much as she wanted to.

"I promise to buy a cup of coffee or something just let me sleep," she groaned out, lifting her head from the table and frowning once she spotted the culprit who had interrupted her sleep. She was most certainly not one of the waitresses, and she didn't look evil enough to be a collector. Looks could be deceiving though.

"Hi uh...can I help you with something?"

Carin perked up when the other girl moved, relieved to know that she wasn't actually dead.

"Good morning, sunshine!" She chirped, smiling brightly. She then settled, resting her chin on a hammock of her linked fingers. "Oh, nothing. I'm just a little concerned is all. The diner probably isn't a good place to sleep, you know? Don't you have a bed, or something a little more cozy?" At first, she had considered that this girl worked here, and was taking a break between shifts; but that thought was dispelled when she saw the more rugged state she was in.

"Yeah, sure. Sort of. I mean I guess I do, if I want to deal with constant berating," she sighed, leaning her head back down on the table before her. What was she supposed to say? Yes, she technically had a place to stay but sleeping in a diner or the park was better than going there? It wasn't a very reassuring response.

"So were you just checking to see if I was okay? That's sweet of you," Amelia smiled, trying to move the subject away from her sleeping situation.

Carin pressed her lips together in a thin line, mentally replaying that one line through her head over and over again. Constant berating? That was no way to have a home. No wonder she was at the diner. When the subject somehow got turned back to her, she at first looked quite surprised.

"Well, yeah? I mean I've seen you here a lot recently. I wanted to make sure you were okay, yeah?" With a thoughtful hum, she opened up the to-go container. Inside rested a turkey club sandwich with a handful of fries. "Want some? It's only fair right, since I woke you up?" Without really waiting for an answer, she pushed the container over, out of her own reach.

"Ah no I couldn't possibly take your food! You bought that yourself and everything! It's not like I'm broke or anything. I'll just get something at home." Boy she was lying up a storm today now wasn't she. She wasn't necessarily trying to or anything, but the thought of someone else knowing just how deep in trouble she was caused her to cringe. Really this woman was far too nice. It took her a bit by surprise all things considered.

"I'm Amelia. Mel if you want to be casual," Mel continued, nudging the container back to the woman. "What's your name?"

"Pshaw. I already ate cake, this was my attempt at being healthy!" Carin laughed, quick and easy, and then turned the contained side ways, so they could both see it. "How about we share? Halfsies? Come on, I woke you up! Let me apologize!" Again, she seemed surprised at the introduction, until she realized she hadn't yet given her own name.

"Ah, oops! I'm Carin. I don't really have a nickname, but if you think of one, go ahead?" With a hum, she nudged the container back a pace or two, making sure it stayed where the initially put it, no matter what Mel insisted.

"I- oh fine," she ended up muttering, picking up a fry or two and sticking them into her mouth. Oh how divine it was. She hadn't had anything salty in what felt like ages. She all but had to force herself not to snag a whole handful and shove it into her mouth. She was sure she looked like some poor homeless girl in need of assistance, but then again that was technically what she was. She'd already been struggling to keep up with her rent, then with the fire damaging a little of her unit as well as the one it had started...well it had pretty much solidified her landlord kicking her out.

"Promise I'm fine, miss Carin. I do really appreciate your concern and if there's anything I can help ya with just let me know," she stated, stuffing more fries into her mouth. She couldn't loan her money or anything, but hey maybe she needed a homeless girl to wash her car or something.

Carin had gone back to resting her chin on her linked fingers, smiling away at her new friend. She had won! The fries were being eaten. Perfect. At least it was something, right?

"Mmm…well, okay, if you insist. I mean, you'd know best, right?" She didn't sound convinced. Still, she reached over for a couple of fries, munching on them. "Food's pretty good here, yeah? You should try the turkey. So good." She prompted innocently, gesturing to the sandwich.

Amelia nodded, too tired to really argue what the woman was offering. To be fair she was right. The turkey was fantastic, and really she hadn't been eating on the healthy side of things. She just had to make sure she didn't devour the whole thing. That would be really rude.

"So, is it really that obvious I'm in a bad state?" Mel sighed, running her hands down her face.

Carin simply resolved to trying to nonchalantly push the whole container closer to Mel. She did it every time she snuck a fry, just to give herself an excuse to get close enough to do it.

"Weeeell…I mean like I said, I've seen you here before, and you've got twigs in your hair." She talked as if none of this bothered her; as though she'd been discussing the weather or a cute dress she'd seen in a local shop. "I just kind of assumed, and you haven't gotten mad at me for assuming that yet, so that means it's a pretty bad state, right? At least I think so." Another fry snuck, another nonchalant nudge of the container.

"Don't suppose you'd want to tell me just how bad it is, huh?"

Mel blushed, running her hands through her hair in an attempt to brush whatever twigs were there out. Once she felt like she'd been successful she placed them back on the table, avoiding the food in front of her for a moment so she could think.

"You really want to know my big ol' sob story? I promise it's not that exciting. Honestly most of it is my own fault. Just did a lot of dumb and now I'm paying for it." A lot of dumb was still sort of an understatement. She'd screwed up her chance of doing a lot of things because of bad life choices.

Since Mel had stopped eating, Carin had stopped as well. Her hands were back under her chin as she listened in to the sad story, and it was one she knew too well. Not to her level of course, but still pretty close.

"Did you learn from it?" She inquired instead, her voice still light and calm.

"I mean I guess I did. I'm still paying for it. Sort of. Dodging people is really hard. Just hope that at some point things will get smoothed over and I'll be able to do things like a normal person."
