Bibliophile was a bit out of the way, but also one of the better stores in town for Eve to start trying to figure things out. Some time after her first visit with Pax things had gotten a bit strange, and a hand-me-down bookshop as established as Professor Mixlin's had a way of accumulating guides and thinkpieces on strangeness. So that made it a place to gather some thoughts until the doctor's appointment she'd also made rolled around. Getting inside proved a little tricky though. The door was a bit too eager to swing back into place after being opened, and there wasn't quite room for Clover to hold it open properly, so the small bell up top was making a bit more noise than one arrival usually entailed.

Algie hopped up at the noise. There was no one in the sitting area so he awkwardly jogged from around the corner to help with the door, "Let me get that-" His hand caught the edge of the door and moved aside to hold it open. He recognized Eve from the teashop but while polite he wasn't always chatty. He smile apologetically, "Sorry about that. You alright?" cibarium awkward jogging algie is exactly what you imagine - paunchy out of shape nerd loping

It was much easier to maneuver inside with Algie's help, and Clover was eager to be back in a space where she could stay at her charge's side. "Thank you. I hope I didn't scuff your doorway. How have you been?" Wheeling her way more fully inside, she continued, "I'm hoping you have material on dream interpretation handy."

"I've been well. How are you?" Algie waited until they were in and walked the door shut behind Eve and Clover. He smiled lightly and he rubbed his pinky ring without thinking about it. The owner's hands rubbed together after the , "I'm sure I do... a couple perhaps. And if not," He smirked a bit, "I'm sure I can dig around a few alternate sections and possibly turn something up." Algie motioned towards the back. The store consisted of rooms, former rooms of a home, empty and lined with shelves and dotted here and there with small tables. Across the counter lay a large white cat. Looking a bit like a fluffy white pancake, Violetta lazily watched the newcomers without seeming to mind their presence. "Having dreams?" Algie perked, knowing that's how it started. "Bad? Good?"

"I'm not quite sure," she admitted while following Algie farther into the cozy store. It was one she quite liked, and really needed to visit more often even when she wasn't looking for something -- it was cultivated, perhaps unconsciously, after the best parts of its owner's personality, making it quite a soothing and grounding space. "I remember Leila's period of dreaming, but that's not what I've been dealing with. I'm not even entirely sure they're dreams at all."

It had almost slipped his mind that Leila also had been in other ashdown with them. He hadn't run into her since. "Yes I had similar dreams," His fingers ran over one another without conscious intention, as that seemed to be where his powers lay, "Though Leila may have told you." The powers worried him, the other place worried him, and the increased oddities spreading around town worried him but the worry only settled into his face a moment before he had another small smile for Eve as they neared the proper section, "Let's see what we've got here.." His fingers tapped lightly across spines, " The Dreamer's Dictionary, Dream Language, 12,000 Dreams Interpreted.." They seemed rather generic, something you could get at Barnes and Noble. Algie's brows bobbed with a question, " Past Lives, Dreams and Soul Travel?"

"Why not," Eve shrugged. "It'll be entertaining reading if it doesn't apply." She paused a moment, and gave her helper dog's head a small scritch while thinking. "I've been dealing with my senses shifting around in peculiar ways when I wake up in the morning... can that be part of the experience?"

"Hmm.." Alg pulled the book down and offered it out to her, "I'm not exactly well versed in dream reading but I've never heard of anything like that. Have you perhaps looked into something more medical if it's affecting your senses?" Though it could be something else. Something less natural. "Or do you think it's maybe.. something more," his hand waved for lack of a better word, "Ashdowny?"

"Leila's already made sure I'm checking the medical front," assured Eve with a cheeky little smile. "I have an appointment lined up, but thanks for the concern." It was annoying to be given that advice again, to be sure, but she could handle being annoyed if it kept her somewhat grounded. "It could be a more dramatic twist of fate, yes. Or it could be something more 'ashdowny.' Having a case of writer's block today?" Now she was smiling in full. Eve had read a few chapters of Algernon's series shortly after hearing he was a writer. Now she was appreciating the irony of a writer being at a loss for words.

"I'm not beyond inventing terms when need be.." Alg chuckled, "Necessity is the mother of invention." And what word was better for the interesting ******** that was this town than 'Ashdowny'. Alg did let out a breath though, speaking a bit more softly, "I will tell you it's a bit difficult to write mildly supernatural books when dealing with this town." And he'd thought it would help him but at this point Ashdown had surpassed the level of spook and mystery of his own writing.

"I think I understand a little. Personal experience can turn sources of inspiration into sources of trouble." Eve sighed and thumbed at one of the book covers Algie has presented for her. "But it's like cracks forming in the concrete. Something can grow from it. Or so I hope."

"Something that hopefully fits in with my 3 book deal for the next Red Herring Trilogy.." Alg sighed a moment. Thankfully he planned in advance, had his plots down and most of the first 2 written but it was a struggle completing it for him right now and not have the story take a decidedly darker twist. "I may have to start a different sort of series at this rate." Alg glanced over the book Eve had taken, "Enough about me. Anything else you need? How's the tea shop doing?"

"Fine, slow, fine. I get more weekend traffic now with the farmer's market open again, you know." Eve thumbed her lip thoughtfully. "People always want to sit around, though. I'm starting to regret not making Equinox a proper cafe." In recent weeks it seemed like there was always someone at the little sampling table. One had even been disappointed when there turned out to be no wi-fi hotspot. "Speaking of lounging, mind if I stay here a while and skim through your recommendations? I'll pay for them first, of course."

"Feel free. That's what it's for." Algie motioned to the sitting area where one side seemed to have gained a small low talking study group while they'd been back in the shelves. One of his college clerks was ringing up one of the students for a textbook they'd waited til the week of finals to buy. "I won't mind if you just take a gander," Alg winked with a smirk, "no buying anything you don't need." He rested his hand lightly on her shoulder just a moment, a friendly gesture if nothing else, "Let me know if you need anything else."
