It was a rare day for her. Masika had decided to go out without her sister, mother, or father. Not even one of their familiars was with her. Instead she wanted to spend time on the beach and in the water on her own. She'd brought her practice runes with her just in case she felt the need to work on her magic abilities, but what she really came out for was the chance to find some pearls.
They were one of the few precious stones that she liked. They had a certain beauty to them that wasn't so obvious. One had to look for it. So there she was in the water. Since both of her parents liked to swim she had been taught at a very young age, something she was thankful for when waves came crashing in with some strength. Masika found a muscle laying in the sediment on the bottom and scooped it up. Unlike others, however, she didn't take the poor creature out of the water. She pried open it's shell while under to check for a pearl and if there was none there she put them back. If she was lucky enough to see a pearl then she worked the shell open more so that she could pluck it out. The hybrid was always careful though since she didn't want to harm the muscles.
The one she'd picked had a pearl and so she worked and worked until she got her reward then she needed to go back to the surface. Masika made sure the muscle was put back on the bottom gently then turned and kicked so that she was propelled upward. To keep from injuring her lungs she exhaled and watched all the bubbles. When her head broke the water she took a deep breath and reached up to wipe her hair out of her face. In her other hand she had about seven or so pearls. It was a good day. With a self satisfied smile and a giggle she headed inward toward the sandy shore.

What had brought him to the beach? Even he wasn't entirely sure why he was here. It was the type of place that he disliked, subconsciously he knew he couldn't swim and it was the same reason why he didn't like to bathe. Having his mother sneak him after the others had bathed was a constant reminder he wasn't like the other women. But he had gotten ready, done his make up choosen his attire with care and did his hair. It was long and silky. He didn't usually like to tie it up for it was his pride and joy. Examining his nails as he walked along the beach he found himself kicking the sand and then trying to get the sticky stuff to stop clinging to the hem of his skirt. Frowning he sighed, and picked out a log to sit upon, although he gave it great scrutiny to make sure nothing alive was on it, or anything gross like sea weed, He dusted it off best he could and gave a loud sigh and went to watch the waves. Amari's attempts to travel had been put on hold. He could of blamed his best friend for that, he had planned on traveling with her across the world to meet good looking guys and make fond memories. Instead he was stuck here because she was getting married. He felt like he should be around for her...help her through this rather emotional time. Instead he just felt bitter and lonely. Leaning forward he watched the ocean before him and then cursed as the wind blew his hair into a mess. Grumbling he went about trying to get it out of his face as well as untangle it.

Diving under the water she swam toward shore. Masika popped up only when she was close enough to set her feet on the bottom and walk the rest of the way. As she emerged from the waves she noticed that there was someone on the beach. She looked a bit upset too. Then a strong breeze messed up the poor thing's hair and made her mood go even farther south.
The blue hybrid shook her head and rand her fingers through her own hair, thankful that it was wet and unable to be blown about in such a manner. Masika smiled at the girl and headed toward her. "It gets a bit windy out here, do you need help with that?" She inquired gently. While she wanted to be helpful she didn't want to cross some line that she didn't know of. "I usually keep my hair half pulled back. It's a good style to keep it from getting in your face." And it looked good.
She was dripping water from her swim, one that she'd worn her clothes into the water for, but that didn't seem to bother her too much. Masika was a true water baby. With the potential to help the girl with her hair she put the pearls in her hand into her pocket for safe keeping.

Amari was a bit startled to have the young girl speaking to her. A hand was still trying to come through the tangles with little success as the wind continued to make a mess of things. Alright he knew that she was just trying to be helpful but it was like giving advice that was rather obvious to the average person. Still there was no sense being rude to her, she was just trying to help. Giving a small it wry smile he gave a tittering laugh, "Ah yes, I suppose I didn't dress properly for a day at he beach." He admitted, for it was just wandering circumstance that had brought hi, to the beach of all places. "I don't normally frequent the beach, I prefer the hustle and bustle of the markets." Amari admitted taking the time get his fingers out of e tangeled mess called his hair. "I didn't expect it to be so...windy here..." He continued as he went to adjust his skirt before trying to stop his hair from getting out of control once more.

She said nothing about not being dressed for a day at the beach. Masika only giggled and nodded her head. "It's hard to dress for everything when you're a girl. Hair, shoes, accessories.. sometimes what looks good isn't functional." Her mother would always tell her to wear practical things but she liked the girly stuff. Still giving her warm and friendly smile she made a small gesture to the girl's hair. "May I?" The least she could do was help the girl out.
If she wanted to be on the beach and enjoy it without everything being ruined then having her hair pulled back might help. The blue hybrid reached into her other pocket and pulled out a small string of pearls to show. "I can add this so it doesn't look too simple." Masika would have offered shells if she'd had them, or flowers since those would go nicely in the girl's green hair.

Although Amari had continued the conversation out of politeness the subject of fashion was one of his passions and it was hard not to have a spark light in his large eyes. Leaning forward he nodded his head, "I know! I never leave the house without looking good, my mother sometimes teases me since I spend so much time getting ready in the mornings...only to be going out to get simple items from the market. But you never know who you might meet out on the street! " He managed nodding his head, this time giving the girl a look over. She had such pretty skin. Did she moisturize? Reaching out he went to touch her arm as if making sure it was as smooth as he thought. "Wow...you have such soft skin! Do you do anything special to keep it that way? Don't tell me its the salty water..." He asked giving her a wrinkled nose to show his distaste for the the sea water. Even if it was the reason he wasn't entirely sure it would be worth going out there just to keep his skin soft. heras box sorry if there are a lot of typos, I am on my ipad atm

There was a firm nod from her. "Right! My sisa pokes fun at me, but really I could meet my perfect hero just out walking. Wouldn't do to be dirty and messy." Though Masika was certain she may have already met such a person. If she could run into him again. And that was saying he remembered her. She had been a crying youngling at the time. When she was touched on the arm she blinked and looked down then back to the girl.
"It is." Her words came with a cringe. "Oh but if you don't like going into the waves then you can always have a sea water bath. Its relaxing." Her mother had started her on those. When she was sick but still wanted to swim. Her mother would collect water and warm it up for her just so that she could swim in it.

Amari smiled, it was nice having something in common with someone. True he loved his best friend Sriina but she didn't get excited like he did about dresses and bangles. Flirting with boys and trying to see what he could get away with when he pulled out the charm. Perhaps.it was time he made a new friend, at least one he could giggle and coo over the latest of fashions. he made a face, sticking out his tongue at the mention of sea water bathes, then laughed. "Guess I will have to resume using the old fashioned method of creams." He sighed as he leaned back and crossed his legs. A habit he had gotten growing up to hide his less than girly legs and hips. "My name is Amari, you are a delight we should go for tea sometime. I know a great place nearby if your interested." He managed giving a irritated sound as the wind blew his long locks straight into his face. "Of course I wouldn't dare go anywhere looking like this..."

She gave a thoughtful look before an idea popped into her mind. "What about using a salt scrub?" That was what her aunt used. Then again her aunt was a little younger than her and liked having smooth skin but didn't like to swim as much.
At the mention of tea she shook her head. "Tea is a bit bitter for me, though I wouldn't say no to some sugary juice." Masika grinned and moved so that she was able to get control of Amari's hair. Her fingers were gentle as she pulled it back and managed to loop it. "I'm Masika." Since it was only right to give her name as well she did. The string of pearls that she had pulled out was woven into the girl's hair and just like that Amari had a style that wouldn't get annoying in the wind. She gave a few small adjustments then moved away to oogle her work, her antennae giving a small bounce as she grinned. "There."

Amari gave a smile, Masika acted just like a child. Tea to him was a very sophisticated thing. At the same time he always added a lot of sugar to his tea, so perhaps he was childish as well. "Your name is very pretty, " Amari murmured as his hair was teased out of his face. It felt so nice having someone play with his hair. After all growing up his mother was careful to allow others too close to him. Else they would of figured out his secret, or rather their secret. Though it had been to protect him, raising him as a girl to to avoid the roving eyes of a child molesting slave master it had only really been his mother who did his hair. It felt nice, although it brought back weird memories of those times. "Your lucky to have been born free.." He mumbled quietly. As his hair was finished he reached up and felt the pearls that had been strung up into it. Blinking he wasn't entirely sure what they were and he half turned to give Masika a questioning look. "Your giving me a gift?" He inquired sounding pleasantly surprised by this notion.

"Thank you. My mother named me to honor my father. It means born in the rain. Or something like that." She giggled a bit but seemed very pleased with her name.
When she heard Amari mention that she was lucky to be born free Masika had to pause for a moment. It took her a while to realize what the girl meant. However, when she did her expression fell slightly. "I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what it was like. My father served when he was younger but he doesn't really talk about it." Something she could only assume meant that it was too painful for him. Or he just didn't want his little girls to know what had happened. Not even her mother would tell her. "I'm not sure if I would call myself lucky though. I can see the pain of those who weren't free and it hurts me too." She was more empathetic than most. Masika had a gentle heart and soul so knowing that others were hurt or still hurting made her feel for them.
As the subject turned to the pearls in Amari's hair she nodded her head. "They bring out your speckles. I love that soft blue."

Amari wondered if his name meant anything special, he made a mental note to ask his mother the next time he saw her. Amari felt a bit bad for bringing up the unpleasantness of the past. Slavery wasn't exactly something you just casually brought up in conversation. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't of brought it up...how about we go get those drinks? I will pay for thanks for these beautiful pearls. " He stated as he went to stand up, frowning slightly as sand clung to the hem of his skirt. Dusting it off he looked up to Masika and gave the young woman a bright smile, before giving off a pose to allow the sun to bounce off his skin. "Yes...Its why I try to keep my arms bare so that people can see how pretty my skin is." Alright so he was rather vain but he still wasn't going to turn down a compliment.

When Amari apologized for bringing up the slavery that she'd endured Masika only shook her head to push the subject aside. In her eyes there was no reason to apologize. However, she let it go and smiled when the mention of drinks was brought back up. "Sure." There was no way she was going to turn down some sweet juice. Or anything sugary really.
At seeing Amari strike a pose she giggled and nodded her head. "Mhm, they should feel lucky to see such pretty skin." Masika had thought about looping her arm with her new friend's but refrained from doing such since she was still wet from her time in the water. Though she did want to stay close so she could learn more about Amari. "I have to ask, which path are you thinking of taking?" Since she was all about her looks Masika didn't think Amari would choose something that would potentially end with her having scars.

Amari blushed slightly at the compliment, it was nice to be praised after giving the girl a wink he turned around allowing his skirt to flutter around his legs as he moved. The way to the street vendors wasn't too far and it would be nice to be distracted. Placing a finger to his lips at the question he gave a small shrug. When it came to things that he wanted to do with his life he wasn't entirely sure. Dancing came to mind, and since he was fairly good at sewing he could make his own costumes. But dancing hardly felt like a real goal in life. So he wasn't entirely sure yet. "Honestly I am not sure. I am content for the moment to sew and help my mother. " He replied simply as he moved forward, "How about yourself?" He turned the question to Masika as he didn't want to dwell on the fact that he had no life goals.

jayoku D: You shoulda kicked me in the shins! I'm sorry! <3 Masika nodded her head when Amari said that she wasn't sure what she wanted to do. That was understandable. And helping her mother was always nice. After all, the Alk hybrid helped her mother out from time to time as well. With the question being returned to her she looked forward and blushed a little. "I want to become a mystic. My father knows magic and I can feel it in me as well." She was still worried that her mother was upset at her life choice but there was nothing she could do about it. Masika wasn't a fighter. Not in the way her mother and sister were.
"I think my mother is a little upset about that, but I'm no good at fighting." Which left very few options for her. Of course there were still other things she could consider doing, but none of them really called out to her.
