"Hey, um, Derouen? I need your help out in the visitor center."

Finn put the phone back into its cradle and got up from the desk. He left the office, and smelled Sunny before he saw her, the aroma of clove cigarettes thick in the air - and there she was, a vision in spandex and flannel and a pair of well-worn Uggs. She was smoking indoors.

"She's been asking for you," said the ranger on duty. Finn nodded.

"Hey, Sunny," he said. She had an uncanny ability to show up exactly when he'd been meaning to go find her. "Let's go outside. I've got something in my car for you."

"Are you really," asked Finn, because it was, in fact, cigarettes. "Where are you getting them?" He thought he was her hook-up. He thought he was special.

He felt a little bit hurt.

"Do you want them or not?" he asked. "And if you say no, are you going to lie to me?"

That was one of those "the answer is No either way" questions, Finn considered, unlocking the Jeep as they approached it. "I can't imagine everyone's making the haul to Connecticut that frequently." Gas was expensive, or so he'd been told - he hadn't bought it in like two years. And besides - it was like two hours each way.

Finn tossed her the pack. "Right on," he said. "Glad to know I'm still your favorite." Maybe more glad than she'd ever know - Finn thrived on validation.

"It's short for Huckleberry, actually," he said, rolling his eyes at her. He gestured to the picnic area just off the lot. "Let's head over there - did you need something from me? I had some questions for you, but ladies first."

Finn rolled his eyes, and then swept Sunny up into a fireman carry over his shoulders. "Okay," he said over any protest she might have made, and carried her over to the picnic tables.

He set her down, rather daintily, on a bench.

"So what's up?" he asked, taking a seat beside her.

Finn looked incredulously at Sunny. "That's why you showed up at my workplace?" he asked. "Because you're bored?" He'd expected this to be important! He glanced back towards the visitor center, considered all the paperwork he could be doing, and then back to Sunny.

"I know that we can cross over to the Otherworld. I know you can go back and forth pretty much as you please. But can other things come through? Like... that bird dog, or that deer thing, or... worse things? Sinister things?"

"Sorry," said Finn, backpedalling. He should have been nicer about that - it wasn't like he didn't have things to ask her about. "It's good that you're here. Really. Because I was going to come looking for you anyway. To ask about that thing."

He frowned, hoping she was sufficiently apologized to.

"What are Sorrow and Glory?" he asked. "What about... The Burning Man? The fliers?"

"Not a name so much as a description," replied Finn. "I didn't meet him. Someone took one of the flyers, found him. Said he was smoking - not like you do, like he was literally on fire. He - the guy who saw it - said it seemed like it knew him."

He bit his lip.

"And like it might be working with whatever's waking up," he added. "Do you know anything about that? We both got the impression that it couldn't possibly be any good. Could that thing... leave the Otherworld?"

"The enemy," repeated Finn, picking up the lede she'd tried to bury in that sentence. "What's that? What do you mean, its place?"
