After her initial dismissal from the hospital, and her experiences with the shadowy things, the thought of something otherworldly was nagging at the back of her mind. Autumn had thought she understood the shadows- little harbingers of death... but then she'd been wrong. Completely and utterly wrong. So really, she had to go back. She had to get answers. If not for her sake, for the people she'd seen. If there was something actively harming people, it was Autumn's obligation to find out.
She couldn't call Zac. Not after everything she'd put him through. Still, even after going home and resting, she saw the burning man in the back of her mind, haunting her dreams. And if they DID go back, and DID encounter him again, she'd have never forgiven herself.
So she went up slightly above his head, and called the chief.
She was waiting outside the hospital, trying to look as at-ease as possible. Not that it was doing much. She was on-edge, unsettled. Tense. It wouldn't take a psychic to see that she was put off. And beyond that, she'd TOLD the chief what was going on. It wasn't like he was coming into this blind, to be ambushed by the fact she wanted to figure out what the ******** was going on.
So, with her exploration gear on again (she would not let that ******** associate negative energy with her on-point outfit, no way,) Autumn waited.

Jeremiah had visited Autumn more than once while she was in the hospital, at least two of the visits making sure that some of the protection salve was in place around her room. He had not expected to be told about shadow things on patients when he went to visit her the last time before she left the hospital. He may have even helped her back home because that was Jeremiah. The detective was still dressed slightly warmer than the weather called for as he walked along the pavement to where he saw Autumn waiting. A hand was lifted in greeting, smirking a bit at the sight of her outfit. He had heard about it but this was the first time he was seeing it. "Very prepared," he said with a note of approval and his head inclined in greeting. Even his own clothing was worn around things that would not cause problems while he was working. His gaze flicked to the hospital and then back to Autumn. "I would ask if you're sure you want to do this but I know the answer." Not with that look on her face. Not when she had been touched as she had been by the burning man - something which still rankled him and made him want to do things but ... Well, after the first time he had punched him he had lost a portion of his memory. The second time would probably not go better.

"What is it the boy scouts say, chief? Always be prepared? I take that seriously," Autumn smirked, glad that the police officer approved of her outfit. That was pretty damn important, someone who actually worked in the line of duty. She'd been damn serious planning the whole thing out. Her leggings weren't easily rippable and had kneecaps, boots had ankle support... hell, even her jacket came apart if need be. It was just practical, really. And if she looked good doing it, that was always a plus.
The chief was a go-to. He was smart, quick, knew how to use a gun. Hell, the guy was a hired DETECTIVE. Meant he saw things, got things. Best kind of guy to have on her side. If she was digging into business in a world that didn't want her there, she was thankful to have Jeremiah helping her.
"Wouldn't have texted you if I wasn't serious," Autumn teased, a sardonic smile reaching her lips.
"That's why I went to you. Figured you'd kick my a** if I was gonna do anything that'd kill me, you know? s**t, what's the line. The faithful servant, at his post once more? You're always there to do the right thing. It kind of kicks a**."
Autumn stood up and stretched.
"You ever been here? On the other side?"

"Never was a boy scout," Jeremiah snorted with an amused glint to his eye. No, he had been the exact opposite of a boy scout when he had been growing up. Then he was making a face at her about the faithful servant but he couldn't argue with it. It was very much true. "I wouldn't kick your a** but I would have a few choice words for you." Not that he was made at all with what happened to Zac and her. They had no fault at all and if anything, he was more angry with the Burning Man. It was something that he would have to address at a certain point. He raked a hand through his hair and turned to look towards the hospital. Nothing looked out of the ordinary and there were people milling out about outside as if there was nothing going on. "No," he replied, "I have not. I've been to a few places but this isn't one of them. Let's head inside and you can show me the places where you saw the shadows." Not that he could think of another word for what she had told him about.

They headed up and inside- the nursing staff gave Autumn their hellos, nice to see you again's. She and her guest- and here she gestured to Jeremiah, explaining him accordingly- were visiting a few of the patients she'd met during her stay. Bringing well wishes, fresh faces, that sort of thing. It wasn't too unusual, and they got in without a hitch. Not that they were breaking into some prison or anything high security. It was just a typical hospital visit, that was all.
She had to keep telling herself this.
Past the staff, Autumn leaned a little closer to Jeremiah, her arm linked with his. Believable, that way. Her adoptive-dad had brought her to see some friends, and they were just as close as could be. Autumn muttered quietly,
"They were on different patients. Two of them died right after, one of them didn't. I figured you might see a pattern in it where I didn't," she explained, smiling and waving to one of the nurses.
"I thought maybe we could get ourselves... to There. And maybe see what was going on."

It likely also helped that Jeremiah looked every inch the Detective Lieutenant that he was, even with his arm linked with Autumn's. The look on his face practically dared people to argue their presence but he did at least nod in greeting when the young woman waved. "The old man, correct?" Jeremiah raked a hand through his hair, eyes looking from place to place as they headed up a staircase. "I can't honestly say that there's anything in particular that seems to fit any kind of pattern." Autumn was given a half-smile, just a bit on edge because he would have preferred to be able to offer her something. "I can help us do that," he added quietly, "get us to the other side. If there's a way here, I'll be able to see it."

"Well. Consider me both relieved and disappointed. Means I'm not completely stupid, but we might be getting in over our heads," Autumn teased, trying to take some of the tension out. But still, she was on edge. Nervous. She wanted answers, and Jeremiah was the single best place she could think to go. If he wasn't seeing anything either... well. Hopefully, they'd figure it out.
"Just tell me where to go, if you see anything," She added, still waving and making eye contact where it was due and polite.

"If we weren't in over our heads then it wouldn't be ..." His hand flipped in the air. The nature of everything they were dealing with was that they were absolutely in over their heads. Were they not, it would not be the same. " This," Jeremiah finally chuckled. He gave her arm a light squeeze to be reassuring. They were near one of the top floors when Jeremiah stopped to let someone push a patient by on their bed. He saw them then. Something that looked dark and slunk off the rolling bed and onto the ground to go down the hallway. "Autumn," he murmured, head tilting towards her to speak softly, "that it?"

The patient rolled by and there they were. The squiggly shadows, darting off into the nothingness. At Jeremiah's question, Autumn nodded mutely. Those were definitely them, as she remembered. She hadn't ever seen them willfully leave someone, but she didn't doubt it was possible. Especially considering how many of these people were essentially in their death throes.
"If things come and go from Other Ashdown... can we take the same path?"

"Maybe," Jeremiah replied, patting her arm once more and then following the path that the shadows went. They disappeared down the hallway and through a pair of doors. When they approached he stopped her. The doors did not look quite right, hazy at the edges to his vision, but that was where the shadows had gone to, slipping underneath the door and disappearing. "Looks like we can in this case," he said quietly. Not that he was certain that was a good thing but there was a haze to this that he was learning to associate with other ashdown. Jeremiah lifted a hand to press against the door and go through with Autumn.

She may have been a little less cautious before. A little more eager to explore, to meet things, to see what was on the other side. Now, Autumn was subdued. She gripped Jeremiah's arm just a little more tightly as they pushed onward, into Other Ashdown through the door.
"Just as a heads up," she said quietly, looking around as they entered, "I have no idea what the hell we're even looking for."

It never felt any particular kind of way when crossing over and Jeremiah was expecting some kind of rain but ... They were inside of a building, albeit one that looked like it could use some work and - - Jeremiah was stopping them from going any further forward, the floor crumbling away and revealing the lower levels. "There's little here that we have any idea of," he replied, "but we're not weaponless." The detective did not mean his gun either. "It also looks like we'll have to turn back around and head another way."

They'd hit a wall already? Great. That boded SO well for this adventure. Nodding quietly, Autumn turned back to head elsewhere, just hoping to get a grasp on... something. Anything. If she could help these people- even if it scared the s**t out of her- Autumn was going to do so. She was able bodied, could use magic. Not so much for the inhabitants of the hospital. Vaguely, she wondered if it'd be overboard to bring some of her salve and apply it to their rooms.
...s**t. Why hadn't she done that with the shadows in the first place?! God damn it, Autumn. God DAMN IT.
"You mean the magic, right?"

Jeremiah had a few bottles of the salve in his pocket, just in case, as he had actually used some of them on Autumn's room (because he was not worried, no). The building did not look right at all, not for the time period they were in, and there were vines growing up some of the walls. He paused a moment to look into a room, seeing an empty bed and the window outside was the dreary landscape of other ashdown. The detective looked back to Autumn and nodded his head. "Yes because here ..." He huffed, thinking about Heliodora. "If your will is strong then anything is possible." Sounded silly but it was absolutely true. "Let's head back downstairs."

Autumn took the lead guiding them downstairs, still on edge. Uneasy. She had done a bit of reading on scary hospitals (and she was gonna have to kick Chris's a** for that one, exposing her to that Silent Hill s**t where you went to a weird-a** world in a hospital. That was great for her nerves), and to her credit, she was only slightly flipping s**t. Pretty impressive, honestly, considering everything that'd happened.
"How do you approach magic, anyway? I'm assuming you don't just kinda jump into Avada Kedavra."
