Nice weather could be a blessing a curse. People were much more keen on going out, tourists would soon flock anywhere with a beach, but it didn't always mean they wanted to sit in at a bar. Business could be as unpredictable as the weather, and they were just as likely to get sun as they were a sudden blizzard in May. At this lazy hour of the afternoon the large bar owner was actually breaking out the patio sets. Four round tables with chairs and umbrellas. They'd already been set up but he was going in to grab a rag and wipe them down when several take out bags were brought from the back and set on the counter. Borr checked the reciepts, noticing one with FINN scrawled in the margin, and figured the cleaning could wait until the food was picked up.

Finn had drawn the short straw, and been shanghai'd into picking up lunch for the afternoon shift at the park. He swung into Darlene's and strolled right up to the counter. "Hey," he said to Borr, "Got a takeout order. Couple of sandwiches, a big salad? Is that ready?" He glanced over his shoulder, indicated the patio sets out front. "It's gonna be May, huh."

"Older you get, the faster everything goes." Borr looked out at the furniture, "I feel like I just put them away. Ready for summer? Campers and all the field trips out there?" To the forest obviously. The older man moved to the takeout bags and read over the receipts. There was a glance at Finn that may have been more discerning than usual before he picked one up and brought it over. "How's Aleksy?" Borr was many things, and perhaps usually an inquiry about Aleksy wouldn't be strange, but the big man was as transparent as a pane of glass. Everything from his innocent tone to raised eyebrows said that he was fishing for something.

"Yeah," nodded Finn, reaching for the bag. "We're doing site maintenance all week. Gotta clear some trees that fell over the winter. There's a long hike in to one of the campsites, so it's kind of a pain." But like, he loved his job, so it was a minor complaint. "Aleksy's fine," Finn added, narrowing his eyes briefly at Borr. It was a normal-enough question, but the bartender's tone of voice, on the other hand... "Why?"

"Oh ah-" He could only look shiftier if he darted his eyes wildly from side to side but instead Borr just looked a bit apologetic for being nosey, "He was here the other day. Seemed a little upset." The old men at the end of the bar snickered. They clearly remembered as well. "Just making sure everything's good with you guys..." Borr worries about you. Always. His eyes slid to a stool. Perhaps Finn had a minute to chat?

Finn shot the men at the end of the bar a look. "Everything's fine," he said, feeling like he was being looked at under a microscope. Aleksy might have been pissed at him the other day, but that could have been about any number of things. They always worked it out. They'd probably already worked out whatever it was Aleksy had been upset over. "What are you asking, really," he asked.

Borr looked around a bit, leaned forward over the bar and very softly (the old men most likely wouldn't hear anyway) tilted his head and cocked his mouth wryly, "Anyone but the sister, man. It really hurts his feelings." Borr could do his own bartender level psycho analysis but it came down to 'you should have known better, Aleksy has a lot of feelings'. But Finn already knew that. Borr had known them all a long time and he was only looking out.

"Oh, my god," said Finn, snatching up the take out order territorially. "That was months ago. It happened once. We talked about it. We worked it out." Well, they'd ******** and then mutually agreed not to talk about it again. If Aleksy had come down here and complained about it to Borr, then obviously he wasn't as over it as he'd let Finn assume. Or maybe Finn had just assumed that without Aleksy doing anything to encourage the notion. Anyway, since when was it any of Borr's business? "It's not anything you need to involve yourself in."

"I know it's not.." Borr scratched his head, loose bun wiggling on his head. He looked genuinely a bit embarassed for prying but the situation seemed to bother Aleksy and of course he wanted to help. Even if it wasn't his place to try. The revelation that it had happened months ago was a surprise and the older man then was sure it must be a bit of a deeper hurt than Aleksy was leading on. "Just- reassure him." Borr sighed. There had always been some mild jealousy between he and Darlene, until things like that became unimportant. Both were social and popular and when they were young both of them were lookers, if he did say so himself. The other party always seemed so ignorant when jealousy reared it's head. "He was here, there were several shots," Finn would know the quality of vodka that Borr kept for Aleksy, "And he was talking about all manner of things." Not just the relationship. Sunny. Her deals. Things that maybe one would not talk about without sounding crazy, "Maybe he just needed to vent but- reassure him anyway."

Finn nodded, worrying his bottom lip with his teeth. "I will," he said, feeling awful. Like, yeah, he was fully aware that he was a piece of s**t boyfriend. Did he like to be reminded of how much of a piece of s**t he was? No. But he'd gotten himself into this mess and he was going to have to get himself out. Somehow. "Can I have, um," he said, gesturing to the other bags, "The rest of my order?"

"Oh yeah-" Borr chuckled a moment, pleasant enough even with his privacy invasion. The other bag tickets were looked at but only one more was Finn's, the salad packed separate than the hot food. It looked like everything had been paid for in advance. He had known Aleksy a long time and the young man had never been a stranger. For all his crankiness Aleksy had a habit of connecting with and getting close to more people than you'd expect. "I just worry is all. I worry about everyone. " Including you Finn. Borr is rooting for you in his heart. "I'm sorry for prodding." Then an after thought, "Drinks?"

Finn shook his head. "We've got sodas in the office," he said, picking up the salad. He considered the bag for a moment, then looked back up at Borr. "Thanks for telling me," he said. "Really. I'll talk to Aleksy. I... I didn't realize I'd upset him so much." Finn Derouen: trash person.

Borr nodded with a small smile and still felt a little shitty for bringing it up, but clearly Aleksy hadn't spoken to Finn as he'd suggested. Of course that still didn't mean it was his place to push it. Too late now."Be safe. Enjoy. I think they threw a couple extra garlic knots in there for your folks." He knew at least one of them up at the ranger station had a garlic knot problem.
