After the alchemy fiasco Callum accepted the fact that he had no talent for the practice whatsoever. So, he took up Corine's idea and decided to bake a loaf of sweet bread for his surrogate instead. He planned on using the natural fruits that grew within Jauhar's canopy, those that he knew were safe and wouldn't make her sick, anyway. The others he would make sure to stay far, far away from.

It didn't take long to gather up his ingredients. Bread was a fairly basic, straight forward food and adding a bit of fruit to sweeten it didn't seem to be too much of an obstacle. Unfortunately, while she had been the one to suggest it, his grandmother knew nothing of baking and so the two of them were muddling through. He kneaded out a healthy ball of dough, enjoying the feel of his fingers in the near formless substance. When it came time to add the fruit they were stumped. Did they just add it in and mix it around or...? And should it have been dried as opposed to fresh? Not entirely sure, Callum decided to just go through with it and see if a mixture of his fresh fruit chunks would do the trick.

The consistency of the dough changed almost instantaneously. It wasn't as sticky, at least not in the malleable way, and seemed to slip through his fingers. Worse yet when he tried to form the loaf shape so he could actually bake it the dough refused him. IT slumped over, sitting in a very large, very sad lump on the table. He tried adding a bit more flour, just to see if it would help, but if anything the mixture of flour and fruit juice created something far worse.

Time to throw this out too.

Buying her something as opposed to making it was looking better and better by the day.
