Alchemy was not as easy as Corine made it out to be.
When he told her of his earlier failure the older shifter had laughed and explained to him what he'd done wrong. At the time it all made sense...too bad he couldn't remember what it was that she'd told him. He'd been at this for weeks now, and with Nimueh home he wanted even more to come up with the perfect elixir. Or potion. Whatever it was called.
So now he was trying again. His ingredients were lined out in front of him, same as before, with his pestle and mortar in place. Callum plucked leaves from a sprig of green, and gently worked them into a paste. It was his belief that perhaps this wasn't meant to be an elixir, but rather a salve that could be rubbed on her skin. He added a little fruit juice, as well as a few other crushed herbs that the recipe called for. This batch was coming along far better than the last in that at least it's odor was pleasant. The look of it was still a little...off for Callum's taste. It was far too dark and brown when it was supposed to be a lighter blue. That trait he had managed to remember.
Maybe if he added some more numbing herbs? But what if he added too much? Scrunching up his features, Callum dipped his fingers into the mixture and smeared a bit on the skin of his forearm. For a while he simply watched it....until his skin began to turn red and burn. He scrambled for the rainwater bucket outside his grandmother's home to wash off his 'concoction'. His skin was now mottled and puffy, which wasn't encouraging. "Practice makes perfect I suppose." He tried to stay positive and yet...perhaps he should just give up and let Corine do it. That was definitely a more appealing prospect, and one he would have to ask her about.
