He asked his parents to meet him for lunch at a nice restaurant, on the north side of town. He informed them that they would be having lunch with Dmitry’s family as well for the first time. He’d been packing and moving things out of their house something which his parents found surprising and his mom found herself like randomly bursting into tears a couple of time. It was odd because they figured they retired and leave the house to Ryan before he ever thought to move out. Selling a house with a dark room, photo studio in the basement might not be terrible difficult … maybe.

Ryan didn’t tell them anything about his engagement and refrained from wearing his ring while he was at their house. They decided to tell both their parents today at the restaurant over lunch. They asked for a private dining area just in case one of their dads pitched a fit, or Ryan’s mom burst into tears again.

They arrived first got seating letting the host know their parents would follow shortly. Ryan sat and looked at his fiance, “I really hope this isn’t a disaster. Did we have to do this in such a public place. What if our parents don’t exactly … er behave?”

When he proposed, he didn't really think about how to move forward with it all. The best way to go about it was for the both of them to tell their parents at the same time. His mom suspected something, but she couldn't really confirm anything since she wasn't right in front of him. She knows when he’s lying or up to something and while it's unnerving, Yana was his mother, and well...mom knows best. His father was rather supportive of Ryan moving in with him, he didn't want to know the details of their relationship, going with the fact that Ryan was good for his son.

Besides, he has fooled around with some males back in his youthful days, ever the playboy. It was a fun lifestyle but destructive as well. So to see his son maintain a steady relationship for 7 months made him proud. Dmitry sighed and poked Ryan’s forehead, “it'll be fine….Can't do behind closed doors you know.” He wasn't as worried as his fiancé, but he could also tell which one of them would be the sort of “wifey” role in their relationship. It was quite funny since looking at Ryan, no one would suspect it. The thought of imagining Ryan in nothing but an apron was a nice image he would save for later.

He saw his parents come in first to which he grabbed Ryan’s hand to reassure him. They were going to be fine.

Ryan frowned at fiance and shook his head, but squeezed the offered hand and readied himself for this. While 7 months might seems good his parents were likely to think him rushing into things and not at all thinking with the head on his shoulders once they found out. They honestly thought this was just like the next step for the pair and things were heading down a more serious path, they’d never guess anything like what they were about to hear.

Ryan tried to pull himself from his thoughts and focus on Mitry’s parents as they arrived, greeting them before smiling as he saw his own parents heading toward them. “Hey mom, hey dad,” he greeted casually. Everyone was here, but Ryan wasn’t sure he wanted to order first or just get right into the news. First however introductions were in order.

As his parents sat down he decided to start, “I’m glad you all could make it.” He looked to Mitry’s parents Yana in particular mostly as he was most familiar with her. “I guess we should do some introductions. These are my parents, Susan and Christopher Hanover.”

Susan gave a pleasant smile, “it's very nice to meet you both,” she said with a barely present Australian accent. Her husband respond in kind with, “likewise”, his accent far more prominent despite spending much of his life since he was a young adult in the states.

When his parents came in, Dmitry smiled and waved them over, giving his mother and sister a kiss on the cheek. “Sup dad, hey mom!” Niko laughed and ruffled his son’s hair. “Dayte vash starik ob"yatiye!” He pulled Dmitry into a bear of a hug before sitting down and making sure Alyonna was settled, smiling at Ryan and his parents. “Pleasure to meet you! I am Nikolais and this is my wife, Yanna along with my daughter Alyonna.

He looked to Dmitry with curiosity. Something was going on….Yana simply smiled and waved to Ryan's parents, “it is nice to meet you too. Your son is a lovely young man~” They all waited to see what was going on. Dmitry cleared his throat and sighed. He just wanted to eat, but business first. “The reason we called you here is because…” he brought their hands onto the table with a nervous smile on his face.

“We’re getting married….”

Ryan smiled at Yana compliment and his tried to hide his amusement at his mother clearly proud smile. “You're son is quite a nice young man as well. Ryan is very stubborn really, it's nice he has someone bringing him out of that shell.”

They barely finished exchanging niceties before Mitry was just blurting out that they were getting married. Ryan eyes went wide, he groaned his hand coming up to his face so he could drag it down in absolute disbelief. His ring was visible, in clear view when he did that though only confirming what was said.

“Some delivery you got there babe,” he said with a slight sigh.

His mother and father were pretty much in shock. It was his mother who spoke first, “come again. I what.”

His father was next interjection with an, “you haven't even been together a whole year.”

Ahhhh….Dmitry was truly his son.

Niko simply smiled and waited for his wife's reaction. Yana blinked rapidly before she covered her mouth to contain the squeal that had her baby looking at her with mild curiosity. It was then Dmitry shook his head, two sets of parents, four different reactions. Niko cleared his throat and looked to his son, brown eyes twinkling. “You do realise what marriage means right Dmitry? I want to make sure you both understand what it means before I move on.

Yana on the other hand was excited. She never thought Dmitry would ever settle down, much less get married! “When did this happen?! O, eto zamechatel'no!” (this is wonderful) She was already going through wedding themes in her head, of course the boys would have to wear the best tuxes money could buy! The theme should be something dark and masculine… The twinkle in her eyes scared the s**t out of Dmitry.

He looked to his father with a frown, “I know what marriage means father, and I'm prepared to take it on…” he looked down with a blush, taking Ryan’s hand to give it a gentle squeeze, “Ive never felt the way I do with anyone else Ive been with.” He looked to Ryan’s parents and lowered his head respectfully. “I'm sorry. I know I should've asked, I know you think it may be too soon, but I wouldn't have proposed if I didn't feel like it was right to do so.” Which was true. When he proposed to Ryan that night (and rightfully kept him in bed for hours), it felt right, he felt like the moment couldn't be anymore perfect than it was then.

And he would do it all again if he had to.

Ryan expected his parents reactions, they could be really conservative sometimes, though that had happened with age he thought. He didn't remember them being so much so when he was younger, but then again he was that kind of kid, wasn't he.

He didn't really get to reply to them before Yana was asking when it happened and there was no way he was letting Dmitry tell it. He looked to Yana, “it happened that same day when you can to pick up Aly, when we had that fight. After we talked, he proposed. It was cute. He was so nervous confessing he loved me and finally asking. He wasn't down on one knee or anything, he was just hugging me so tight. I just I love him, so I said yes.”

He squeezed Dmitry’s hand while he talked to his dad and then Ryan's own parents. The look on his face watching Mitry really spoke for itself even if Ryan's parents were skeptical of all this.

Ryan looked to them, “yes we've only been together 7 months, but no one is saying we have to get married tomorrow or even soon. I'm certain though about what I want. I've always been headstrong and you know when I'm committed. I really do love and want to marry Dmitry.”

He looked to Niko and said, “I’m well aware of what marriage is and what it entails. I’m sure we’ll be able to handle it just fine. We’re really good together.”

Ryan's parents listened to each young man and then looked to each other. They both still looked a bit unsure, but still his mother said, “well I've always wanted another son. Son-in-laws count right.”

She laughed and her husband shook his head but smiled. “Try not to rush things son, okay. Congratulations.”

His mother smiled and nodded, “congratulations baby.”

Ryan almost breathed a sigh of relief smiling and just turning and kissing his fiancé. Okay maybe this wasn't a bad idea.
