Watching was in the job title. Well, almost. She'd never really gotten why they were called 'wardens' not 'watchers'. She'd gotten a funny look or two when she'd asked her father about it, but then he'd just shrugged and said maybe she should suggest it. That was dear old dad for you though. He was a sweet lion, jolly even, and he'd never really stood up to the idea of what made a true Firekin to his daughter. Oh, that wasn't to say she didn't love him, but at the same time, her job and her love of her homeland made her feel like he was worth watching.
He'd borne her scrutiny in good humor, and to her private joy and more public frustration, he'd set not a single toe out of line. In the end, she'd had to sigh, tell herself that it was just his laissez-faire attitude that had originally stood out to her over any of the other lions she'd met, and move on. It was a good thing, in the end, that she'd not have to report on her own father.
Her efforts in that regard had eaten up a fair bit of her time however, and she found herself both eager to resume her dutiful monitoring of the rest of the pride, and also a bit ashamed of how far her duties had slipped. She was better than this. So today she'd gone out early from the family den, determined to be as nosy as she could be. She'd perched near the closest, most popular watering hole for the pride at the moment, and settled in for a good hard listen.

Khaluun was intently aware of everyone that came and went near her chosen perch. A general and broad distaste for Wardens meant she was given a bit of a berth, but she didn't mind. It'd be harder to see them all if they swarmed too near. It was fairly quiet all told. Gossip aplenty, of course, but nothing really worth reporting on. No one was rousing trouble, so she idly kept track of how many came to drink, and for how long. There was no problem, but it'd pay to be aware if the draw from the watering hole increased or decreased, or if there was a noticeable lowering of the amount of water available. It was something to keep her mind busy too.
She noted the approach of the medic with plain interest. They were no more or less suspicious than any other rank, but she often considered them the more trustworthy types of the pride. It took a special kind of spirit to devote themselves to healing. Of course, they also had access to pridemates when they were weak, helpless... She flicked an ear and tipped her head when she noticed the medic (Shula something? So many similar names in her pride...) had spotted her. "Working hard then?" She asked, the question pitched flat and even, a simple open request, and not at all digging for anything interesting.

Khaluun felt distinctly like she liked this female. Friends, for her, were so rare...her nature was stoic and cool, most often. Even this little bit of casual, common conversation...it meant more to her than the other female would ever know (she knew better that to openly give away her satisfaction over it). "I would assume that, with the pride electing the new regents, most will be satisfied. Both with the new regents themselves and their ideas for the pride. Else why would they have won the vote?" She huffed at a male that she caught side-eyeing them. He gave them no trouble, but she knew his name, and would remember it. "Though of course some dissent is to be expected."
She turned about to fix Shula with a searching, intense look at her inquiry as she rifled through her memories of more recent events for anything she considered public-appropriate. Being asked at all was a bit awkward...but wasn't that what normal acquaintances and friends did? They asked after each others' jobs and well-being. "Not much today. I'll admit to having a later start than I'd planned. Always one or two pairs squabbling or going a bit too hard in a duel, but that's typical," She eventually admitted. "And of course, there's that rumor about..." She rattled off a few names of certain lions, suspected of being in the early stages of courtship, or potential litter-making. That sort of gossip would do, she assumed, to slake the curiosity of most civilians.

"Hopefully, I think we do need some changes here, but I wouldn't know of any specific ones." She had completely forgotten about the regent election. She had been unable to vote in it herself as she had been too busy with her medical duties not only then but even now. Quite a few lions were on edge at this point, almost as if they were expecting the pride to implode from the inside with the election of the regents. Of course nothing had happened yet, and she doubted that they would change so much that that pride would be unrecognizable, but some lions tended to be very stubborn and stuck in their ways, with any change seen as a threat.
Shula smiled at the other. She knew all about pride members and squabbling a bit too much. Often she had been called to patch them up and separate them while fighting to make sure that they didn't start attacking each other again. "Yes sometimes I feel so drained even before the sun hits the highest point in the sky. Would be nice if I could take a day off or something." Interesting to know about lions courtshipping and such, though she would never repeat it to anyone else. She was interested in some gossip, but was not one to go and spread something around, just in case. "Well, that is interesting. All I can say is that I've been patching up others and then over again when they decide that they would rather fight a bit more than actually take any time to recover." She said it just a tiny bit bitterly. She liked being a medic, but she didn't like seeing lions with permanent injuries.
