Sometimes it might be considered odd but people probably did not really pay attention to a small, tiny ball of white fluff (with a suspicious looking mohawk of viney flowers on it's head). There was a collar attached and a tag but the small cat was adept at dodging most people. It was making it's way from the business side of town, going to a more residential neighborhood. It's tail flicked back and forth as it sat and waited at a crosswalk patiently for it to be time to cross and then did so. (So law abiding. For now.)

It was a short enough walk back to his house that Chris didn't mind walking to the store for groceries sometimes. So it was why Chris was juggling a bag of groceries (milk, a green onion, and some sesame oil) as he shuffled his way through the streets, not paying attention to anything in particular.
He managed to catch the tail end of a cross walk, only giving a vague glance down at the street of who was ahead and - was that a cat? He stared a little longer, realizing there was... flowers on the cats head?? Chris blinked, trying to will the sight away (it had to be because he was tired, it HAD to be) and when it didn't disappear well. Chris decided he was going to follow the cat.
He jogged to catch up with the cat, then bent low to try and give it a pet. Or see its collar. Or just, anything really to see if the cat was related to Rosalinde. Those vines... it couldn't be a coincidence.

Chris was treated to a surprised hiss and the small cat fluffing up big until he realized it was just a human trying to pet him. It got him a hard-eyed bright blue stare before the pets were allowed. Clearly a I assume you are an okay people look. Up closer, it was obviously was some kind of viney mohawk with flowers on his head and definitely real. The collar was dark in color, a tag on it that read Hellbine and an address that was nearby in the neighborhood. Hellbine allowed one or two pets before his tail flicked. He headbutted Chris's hand and then started to walk off again towards the address on his collar.

Chris was ready to run when he got the hiss but luckily he was able to pet and he happily did so, noting the well.. reality of the flowery mohawk on the cat's head. If the cat wasn't related to Rosalinde, Chris would eat his shoes.
Luxuriously he ran his fingers through his fur, hand trailing down to the tag on the collar. "Hellbine, hm? That's a type of plant isn't it," Chris mused, giving a smile at the headbutt.
He knew he shouldn't, he had groceries on him, but he was curious and the owner of the cat was bound to give answers (if there was one, there had to be one, there was a collar). Getting up, he followed the cat, making sure to keep note of where he was going.

Hellbine gave Chris that probably mirrored one he may have gotten from Rosalinde at some point. As if he was saying 'Yes, of course, obviously'. Luckily it was not that far to the address and soon they were coming up on a nice two story house with a covered porch and a rather impressive personal garden in the front yard. Hellbine only briefly gave thought to look over his shoulder to see the people still following him as he went up the stairs of the house. There was a porch swing as well as a couple chairs and, in one of the places, obviously a small cat nook with a couple of kitty beds that he promptly went and sat on it. As if he was patiently waiting for someone.

Chris could only but laugh at the look, reminiscent of the one Rosalinde had given before she'd put roses in his sweater. Yes, this cat had to be related to Rosalinde.
He was glad for the short walk and even more glad that he had decided to follow the cat. The garden in the front was gorgeous and before he even realized he had wandered up to look among it, impressed by how well it was. It definitely outranked the small herb garden that was behind his parent's house, that was for sure.
He glanced up from the plants to search for Hellbine, finding him in a little cat nook. With a smile he climbed up to the porch, to give Hellbine a few more pets. "I hope your owner doesn't find me creepy just standing on their porch, petting their cat," He laughed, taking care to place a few scratches behind Hellbine's ears.

There were a number of herbs, mostly for cooking, as well as a few just because they smelled nice. Someone clearly had a gardening obsession (there was a sapling that looked like it had been recently planted). Hellbine stopped cleaning his fur when Chris started to pet him again. He gave him another look when he was talked to but instead let out a chirp of a meow and started to purr. Any doubt that he was Rosalinde's kitten faded the moment flowery vines started to show up on the pillow he was on. It tangled into what looked like moss that was already there. It wasn't that long before the sound of a car was heard, pulling in and parking. Jeremiah was balancing a bag of groceries on nudged the car door shut with his hip and turned to walk up the pathway to his house. Which lead to pausing when he saw someone on his porch. Chris was familiar at least, if only because he remembered him from everything that had happened. "Watts, wasn't it?" he inquired. Then because manners ... "Afternoon." He was walked up the steps to his porch and paused to notice that it was Hellbine that the young man was petting. His eyes narrowed. "You are supposed to be with Algie and Violetta, Hellbine." The small cat just purred and then pressed briefly against Chris's hand before he was hopping down and waiting to go inside.

Chris looked up from Hellbine when he heard the car pull up, a flush across his face as he realized that Hellbine's owner had just arrived and Chris was just standing awkwardly on his porch. He watched quietly as the person got out of the car, also carrying groceries he noted with a half smile of amusement, his mind trying to place the semi-familiar face.
It came to him as he was greeted and Chris nodded, replying back "Good Afternoon Detective Mercer." His mouth quirked into a full smile at the talk at Hellbine - the cat was definitely a defiant one for sure. He treasured the lingering warmth of the cat, musing on how to ask the question before finally coming right out with.
"Hellbine's related to Rosalinde, isn't he?" It was more a statement, than a question, having already seen what had happened. But it was better to sound questioning rather than accusing.

Jeremiah was turning the key and unlocking the front door, opening it enough that Hellbine could go instead, and then pressed it the rest of the way open so he could go in as well. His head tilted towards the door, an invitation. The older man was still dressed for work, shoulder holster and gun ... and really not all that different in attire from when Chris likely last saw him. Less burnt though. "You can come inside if you want, I've got to get these things into the freezer." There was ice cream that was part of dessert they would be having later. "... and, yes, he's related. Rosalinde is his mother." He would wait for Chris to make his decision to come in before he would go in himself.

To say he was surprised he was even getting an invatation to the detective's home was an understatement, but he only managed to contain his gaping for a second before managing to reply, "Uh sure, yeah. Sounds nice."
He was absolutely pleased that his guess was correct and he gave a grin at Jeremiah, only now noticing the shoulder holster. Jeeze, was kind of lucky he hadn't been shot. "Does he have any siblings? I think this is the greatest thing I've been told today, that Rosalinde has had kittens."
"Oh, you also have a really nice garden by the way. What's entirely in it? I recognize some of it, but not everything and I wouldn't mind trying my hand at some of it myself."

Jeremiah's manners kicked as he closed the door after Chris went inside. It was an incredibly nice out, a chair and a small table immediately next to the door. The chair was covered in jackets and coats - some that were obviously not his - and the table was where he put his keys in a bowl. "Do you need to put those somewhere cold for a bit?" he asked, eyes glancing down to what the young man had and then back to his face. Jeremiah was leading Chris through the house, down the hallway and passing the stairs to the kitchen. "He does. Two others, Violetta is his sister. Algie has her with him." There may have been a slight chuckle at hearing that it was the greatest thing he had been told. "... ah, thanks." He blinked, not expecting the compliment on the garden. Most assumed he paid someone to deal with it. It was far from the case. "I would have to get my notebook out to tell you everything. Several herbs for cooking, a few other things for adding to tea ..." Jeremiah paused and turned to look at Chris. "At gardening?" Clarification.

He blinked as he walked in, taking a look around. It was nice, nicer than Chris' apartment anyways and he stared at the jackets as Jeremiah put his keys up.
"Oh, uh," Chris glanced at his milk, then back up. "It'd be nice for the milk, otherwise everything else is fine sitting out. Especially the oil, it gets kind of weird in the fridge." He took in where they were walking though, his face lighting up at the mention of Violetta. "I'd love to meet Violetta too, no seriously I think you've made my day."
"Ah, tea? I hope I don't have all of the same, I'd love to add to the tea mixes I make," He perked up, then blinked in confusion for a second. "Oh, no. I know how to garden, my mom taught me when I was younger. I've been taking care of the garden she left behind. I find it nice."

"I would imagine," he snorted at the comment about the oil, but then gestured for Chris to put the milk into the fridge. His kitchen, if anything, was incredible and one could tell that he put a lot of time into it with the gadgets and appliances. Hellbine was actually sitting expectantly on a stool that was around the center island of the kitchen. Jeremiah walked by and gave his head a scratch. "Not yet," he told the kitten. "I'll give you a list before you leave." The detective might have already been swapping teas with Autumn. He was British, of course he had a tea problem. The silver-haired man was moving around the kitchen and getting things out that needed to be prepared for dinner. "You'll see Violetta shortly," he added, "but I have to ask if you always follow strange cats?" There was an amused look. iloveyouDIE u iz tagged to bring alg home

There was the sound of the door opening and closing, muttering about claws in his collar, and the sound of clothing being tossed on top of other clothing. Keys were dropped in a bowl with clatter, shoes toed off and thudding lightly in the entryway, and a leather bag dumped by the coat chair. "Jeremiah?" Algie called out into the house. Violetta preferred staying draped around his shoulders but had a tendency of cementing herself there unless forced off. The lounge cat had been set down but upon hitting the floor leapt immediately up to nest in the still-warm tweed coat that the professor had just tossed down. He was unaware there was a visitor but was sure he heard chatter in the kitchen.

"Thank you," he said, putting his milk up and trying desperately to not gawk at the kitchen. His own was behind, just the basics and a couple of very nice gifts, and this was like a dream for someone who cooked rather frequently.
"That would be lovely, thank you." Chris smiled, giving Hellbine his own pet. "I don't often, no," Chris laughed in reply. "But he looked like Rosalinde and I was curious and well. Seemed amicable enough to me petting him if I followed him long enough."
He jerked a little at the noise of a second, realizing that perhaps he was in the way. "Ah, I don't mean to take up your time if you were expecting someone else."
