A lone wild dog wearily paced across the tundra. He could feel the dirt turning to sand under his paws. The air was becoming drier and colder at night, yet the days were burning hot. Ingwe peered about him with his one good eye. He'd traveled far in his wanderings. Searching for a new place he could call home. Life wasn't all that easy for the one-eyed dog. With one good eye, and the other only gave fuzzy images, it was hard to hunt. He'd been well suited in his old pack, that had saved him from a leopard, for pup sitting.

Ingwe was fond of the young. He'd been traveling too long on his own. He sighed and stopped to take a better look at his surroundings. Who would want to live out here? It was so hot and dry. A tongue as dry as the sand worked inside his mouth trying to find a bit of moisture. He needed water soon, or to leave the area.

The splotched female blinked slowly as she stood unmoving. She was supposed to be hunting, and yet something was distracting her. Her head canted to the side as she heard some noise and let out a little huff of air before she started walking again. It was probably rodents. Nothing to drag back to the pack for food. She licked her lips lazily and yawned before stretching herself out.

Time for a run. And so she took off into the dry, hot heated day and let her paws sink in the sand. Where was a moving target? Red eyes squinted under the glint and heatwaves that came off the surface of the sand.

She wouldn't be out here long.

He heard and scented another before he saw her. Instinct wanted him to press his rump against something solid to protect it in case it was something unfriendly. His hackles rose a bit as he tensed up. The foot falls, muffled by sand, came closer. Ingwe was relieved to see it was another wild dog. She looked like she was going somewhere in a hurry though. He hesitated to interrupt, but pressing needs insisted.

"Hello there. Do you have a moment?" If she was super busy, she could easily ignore him and keep on going. He rather hoped she'd have a moment to spare.

A voice caused her to skid to a stop, kicking up sand in a cloud around her, very firmly coating her usually bright coat, muting it to the eyes. Her head snapped to the direction of the voice and she stayed, tense and watching, tail almost curling between her legs.

"....Maybe?" Her ears went flat against her head and then they perked up before flattening out one more time. She wasn't sure what to do. "...What do you need?"

She was panting now, tongue lolling out as she stared at the male.

He must have startled her by the way she came to a stop. Ingwe coughed on the rising dust before he could reply. He ducked his head a bit to show he wasn't a threat. "Water, and maybe a bit of direction please." The male was glad he'd run into the wild dog. If it had been any other specie, particularly a leopard, he wouldn't have been able to ask. It just.... no he couldn't.

He looked up at her with a hopeful look. How could anyone stand it out here for very long? The male wondered. All he wanted was to find water and a nice cool place to lay. He was not at all suited to a place like this.

Water. The spotted female's head tilted to the side as she tried to remember where a water source was around here. Her tail flicked a little bit and then she just turned to look the way she'd just come and nodded. There was a small hole with water back that way.

"...Follow me," she said after a moment, voice slow and methodical. "I saw some water a little ways back this way... Where are you going?" She turned her head toward him as she walked in front of him, a soft look on her face. Everything about her was slow except the way she walked. It was almost as if she were a child learning the ways of speech or some serious dog choosing their words very carefully.

Ingwe waited quietly, not pressuring her. Either she'd help him or not. It was her choice. He lifted his head as she said to follow him. That was a better response than he'd hoped for.

"Thank you," he replied gratefully. She could easily have sent him in a misdirection, or pointed him in the right direction and simply let him wander and hope he found it. No, she was leading him which meant she'd take him directly there.

"No where I suppose. Just wandering, maybe looking for a place to call home." Ingwe replied with a shrug. Most places he'd come across were not suited to him. He couldn't understand how wild dogs could live in harmony with these big cats. He would never join a pack like that. "What about you?"
