Silver eyes stared blearily at the illustration of a castle made up of beetle shells and spider web as two fantasy like pixies flew carrying a hollow acorn top full of water between them. The next page showed one of the two pixies flying above the top of the words backwards as if she was having fun while a unicorn in the lower hand corner pawed the ground. He stared at the unicorn blankly and wondered why it stayed before sighing and lowering the book completely. A quick glance toward the machines showed there was no change to the beat, at least not one that meant she was getting weaker again which was a relief. Placing the book back on the desk he got up and stretched his wings, looking closely at Hexxis and some of the restraints added encase she woke up as Ashral and Ashral was still acting as she did when they arrived. He still wasn't sure what happened in that room, Mara didn't answer her phone and neither did Kae...Ree left the base but said he was going flying. He could ask Zira but didn't want to leave the room to do so.. making sure to be here when Hexxis or Ashral woke. Leaning down he smoothed some of the blankets over her and headed to the window to look out as the sun started to rise.

Pain. That was all she had felt, a warm embrace, some voices in the dark.
You two take this, I'll follow behind. / I know a safe place we can go. / What did I forget? / What are you doing?!
'...let me go back.'
'...tri-..'
You are not invincible!! / We don't have to fight!! / We have to stop!! / NO s**t!!
GET AWAY FROM US!!
....please..
Noise, far too much noise. Voices and wind and chaos. What was happening, she couldn't exactly remember why it was so dark. Movement, a violent embrace, the crunch of metal, and stillness.
-----
Hexxis winced as the recollection of memories pooled up within her mind as her consciousness stirred. Her face pained as she tried to free herself from the darkness that surrounded her, as she suddenly let out a loud shriek, her eyes opening suddenly. "TRIII!!!" she screamed, panic on her face for a split second as she almost seemed to gasp for air, looking around frantically. Where was she? This wasn't her room? Someone took her. Who took her? Where did they take her? Why? What happened? Where was Tri? Why did her chest hurt so much?
Her heart rate was increasing rapidly as she tried to regain bearings on the waking world around her, disoriented and scared. Grasping at her chest she sat up, leaning forward as she strained. Overwhelmed as everything seemed to be catching up to her quickly.

"TRIII!!!"Tri raised his head in alarm and pushed away from the window at the same time the machines started to beep a warning. " Hexxis!" He said quietly but sharply, moving into her line of sight as he reached out with one hand to rest it against her forehead, trying to distract her before she injured herself or went into full blown panic. "I'm here..." He glanced down at the restraints, wanting to pull them off to show she was fine but not daring to now even now. Instead he lifted his wings up a little and looked at her eyes, never having replaced the eye patch since Ashral didn't seem to need it. " I'm..here " he repeated instead hoping that might calm her down before her heartbeat climbed to a dangerous number.

She heard her name as she looked to Tri with pained eyes, still grasping at her chest frantically. He moved closer, and instinctively she moved her hands up to hug him but was hindered quickly by the restaints. She looked to the restrains in concern. Why was she more than restrained? What had happened? Though, Tri's reassuring voice was breaking down her panic as she exhaled shakly. Hexxis tried to regulate her breathing as her heartbeat slowly began to decline to a normal rate.
"...tri..." she whispered as she stayed sitting up and looked around the room once , trying to understand what had happened. Medical. Why was she in Medical. Did she hurt someone?! Her eyes drifted over him for signs of injuries. Was Ashra l here? Did she get hurt? The questions continued to race as she lowered her head slightly through the pain in her head.

He stared at her chest as she grasp at it frantically, his own mind blanking out but knowing it was important and wishing automatically that Estrian was here. The meta would know what was wrong, would have a better understanding of what was going on.
He looked up at the jangle of metal as she pulled her hands away from her chest and tried to give him a hug. At that moment he resented the chains, the malice, all the reason that force hm to keep them on her instead of allowing her to hug him. He watched her for a moment as she looks around then down. Pulling his own hand back he stood there helplessly "You were injured"//dead// "Ashral had been keeping you alive for a few days now. Give me a moment, let me call someone in to check on you and I can fill you in " he said quietly as he moved to the edge of the door and looked outside, calling for assistance from any of the staff he could see. He knew there was a button and a clicker somewhere to call them, something he barely remembered in the hazy of his own pain when he was last in Medical.
Returning to her he was eventually followed by medical personal who moved to her but waited, looking to Tri then her for an okay. "Hexxis....will you let them?" He ask quietly.

Her hand twitched to reach out to Tri as he withdrew his hand. Injured. Ashral was in control. Keeping her alive. So she had almost died. She opened her mouth to speak but said nothing as her expression was falling back into its usual one, and further away from panic as time passed. She watched as he moved to the door, and after a moment, returned with doctors as they waited for the okay to examine her. She looked to Tri, Will you let them? she shifted her eyes to the doctors, slightly apprehensive. She slid her hand to her face, feeling something missing, something that made her feel safer, more complete. She covered her eye and looked to Tri, a hint of concern beneath her eyes as she gave one more look to the doctors, pulled her hand away, looking down at the sheets that covered her and nodded. She reflexively closed her left eye, still too self conscious about it to let it be open at the moment. She fidgeted slightly in nervousness as she allowed them to do whatever examination or tests they needed. As they got closer to her face or more toward her eye, she showed tension in her body, eventually moving a hand to try to grab at Tri's jacket with one hand, something that seemed to comfort her over her time spent with him."...little one... are you okay now?" the voice in her mind echoed lightly, barely there but loud enough that she could just make out what she was saying.Hexxis' eyes grew wide as she heard the voice, pushing away whoever had been touching her suddenly. "code-..""shhh.. It's okay now. I'm not coming out."She slowly looked to Tri, a glint of worry on her face that quickly faded, buried beneath a deadpan look as she remembered there were others in the room. "....her voice." she whispered."We made a deal. I'll be protecting you now... All of you."Her eyes dropped as she tried to understand. A deal. No. Her eyes darted to Tri as pain hid behind them that could only seen by those who truly knew her. "....deal?" She had assumed that Tri made some sort of contract to save her, as she grabbed onto his coat again, holding on tightly as she stared into his silver eyes hoping for an answer. An answer that didnt involve a bargain that ended in her own adoptive father's death.

Tri glanced down at the light pull on his jacket then back up at Hexxis, reaching down to gently cover her hand with his. He had moved earlier to the other side of the bed and had been watching the relation between what the doctor did and Hexxis's heart rate on the monitor. It was one less set of eyes looking directly at her since he did not have the forethought to grab her an extra eyepatch from her room.
"Al-" he started with intent to comfort her when she spoke. Code? His own heartbeat speed up as he motioned for the doctor to step away but Hexxis was already pushing her. He started to let go but thought better of it and focused only on her, waiting to see if Ashral took over again.
"Her voice?" He repeated confused for a moment, Ashral was talking directly to her? At her next words he nodded with a flicker of anger in his own eyes.
Glancing up he motioned for the doctor to leave, it didn't seem like Hexxis was in much trouble now and if not he could always call them back. Waiting until the door closed he sighed softly but it did nothing to hide the anger that was reflected in his eyes.
"Yes....Ree accepted a new modified deal with her. Ashral will be allowed to come out for at least an hour every month and when she gains enough energy to form a body we are to let her leave without trouble. In exchange she will not torture you and will not harm others unless told or you are in danger " he explained quietly and quickly encase they were being overheard now. "Supposedly ..Ash will now be an ...ally "

Hexxis watched as the doctors left the room, as soon as the door closed, she immediately looked to Tri, pain visible on her face she waited for his answer. Ree accepted a new modified deal with her. She felt an overwhelming amount of emotions from that small fact. Relief, regret, anger, shame, fear, guilt. Her face faded once more, though the concern remained as she shoved her face into his jacket suddenly since she was unable to hug him at the moment."See it as the only luck you'll have ever gotten in your life, and at a good time... You'd be dead without me. But not to worry,... you can rely on me... I will protect you. I'll give everything you need to be stronger. I'll give a voice.......... a purpose."Hexxis was trembling a bit as she listened to Ashral's voice no longer so harsh and sharp, now one of comfort and protection. It was hard to grasp as she tried to understand how this could happen while she slept. How long had she been asleep anyway? So she wouldn't torture her anymore. No harm could come to others now. She didn't have to be feared. Maybe even allowed outside of her room. Not that it mattered too much to her whether she stay in there or was allowed to roam free. "....I can... trust her?.." she asked, not removing her face as she spoke in a muffled voice through his coat. "...You'll be safe from me now?" her voice was breaking as she spoke. An ally, she was an ally now."I only care about you.. I will never let harm come to you again... You will be safe now... He will be safe now..."Her words like a soft embrace, she was reluctant to take it without knowing for sure from Tri. Was she still dreaming? Could this really have happened? Her mind then wandered to Ree, her brother, sadness filling her heart as she began to worry if there was more her offered or gave up that they weren't telling her. Tri had said Ashral could go outside occasionally and be allowed to leave when they separate. Why? Why was such a deal made? To what means? Everything was a lot of take in as she tried her best to collect her thoughts.

Tri frowned lifting his hands to support her back as Hexxis shoved her face against his side. It tore at his sense of duty, wanting to let her go. Even while they were calling Ashral an ally, those were just words, none of them really believed it maybe other than Ree? And he really hoped not. Still with Hexxis awake... It meant the code phrase could be use to shut Ashral down if she broke the deal...assuming he could say it.
On top of that..the relief he saw in her face brought the same amount of guilt on his. She could have lived without the torment up until now if he had agreed... Not that he would have agreed to it even now, but it made him feel like less of a person for not having done so, even if he had his reasons. Adding the fact he had also chosen Ree over Hexxis, saying nothing when Ree tried to get Ashral to sleep.
"We hope. She is a malice so we are not quite sure on that yet " he said quietly, not trying to give her that much hope as he finally decided and pulled out the key to the restraints. He unlocked the restraint on her arms but left the one at her legs, not pulling what Kage did but still following Mara's orders partially. Pocketing the key he finally reached down to her and gave her a hug, top wings extended forward and crossing behind her back as well.

"Just relax... it'll take time.. but you'll learn to trust me... we are going to be close for a while so might as well get comfortable... You'll learn that I will keep you safe, you can rest... no more worries..."Hexxis sighed within his coat as he told her they could only hope. "She says she will be protecting me... protecting us..... that you will be safe now...." she reluctantly shifted her face out of the material of his clothing as she looked at him with her usual deadpan expression with hints of sadness glinting within her expression. "Does she mean it?.... She won't hurt you anymore?" she asked, her only concern seeming to be on Tri at the moment as he moved to unlock her hands from the restraints. He reached down to hug her and she wrapped her arms around him as far as they could go, squeezing firmly as she honestly didn't want to let go. She felt his wings touch her back and she relaxed a bit, the soothing feeling so familiar to her."Don't you worry, I will protect you. I will save you. It will be alright now.""..It will be alright now.." she repeated softly as she embraced him, her heart beat elevating slightly but not anything that would cause concern.

"If she is truthful...then yes I would be included " he said quietly, knowing that it would be true only be because Ree ordered it.
Tri held her tightly before resting his forehead against the top of her head. Guilt mixed in with relief scratched at the long held mask he wore, threatening to make him tear up but it never got through.
"Are you hungry?" He asked thinking what she would really want now that she was awake. Slowly he release his hold on her, relieved that Ashral didn't take over.

"You would have been dead if I didn't mean it when I said I would protect you... Could have easily let you die at any time during that week. But here you are... safe and sound, and without a single scratch."Hexxis reluctantly let go of Tri as he moved away, asking if she was hungry. She was quiet for a second, her usual lethargic expression on her face as she thought. "...refueling necessary.." she reflexively spoke in a half-robotic voice, as she stared down at the blankets. She was mulling over what she knew, and what she was being told. She was about to ask about Ree, he was the one that made the deal and all, but she realized what Ashral had mentioned. A week. She'd been out for a week? Ashral had really been there that long and Tri was unharmed. And without a single scratch. She placed a hand on her stomach and her eyes narrowed in concern. It didn't seem like Tri took her wounds, and yet they were completely gone. "...ree..." she spoke softly this time, piecing it all together the best she could.
She wondered how much trouble Ashral had caused while she was asleep, no, dying? Had she hurt others before making a contract. How did she get injured in the first place? Last she remembered laying in her bed as she healed the wounds she had sustained from being stabbed through with some plasma sword.
"....why didn't you just kill her..." she whispered, coming to her only conclusion.
"Ashral is dangerous. I don't understand why I'm still alive if she has been out for so long. A liability. You all could have been killed. Unless Ree made the deal right after I was injured...which.." she paused, her voice had been monotone, void of emotion as only rational thought came forth now.
"My life is not worth the compromised safety of this base."
She looked at him, her face never changing as she seemed very absolute in her words.
"My life is not worth putting you in that much danger."
Not a single emotion shown through as she spoke, like a program that only explained its function, its purpose, the conditions of its own termination.
Ashral was silent. Listening. As she understood what Hexxis was saying. She wasn't wrong. But things were different now. And she would eventually see that, Ashral was sure of it.

My life is not worth the compromised safety of this base."
Fingers twitched in response, a similiar thought passed through his mind as he watched Ree coax Ashral to sleep...holding out on a hope that it wouldn't kill her. Having that hope answered but now living with the guilt of having chosen that route...and also hearing it from her as well...that it was correct..the most logical choice.
He stared at her and sighed while lifting his arms to rest them on the rail between them. "Killing her would kill you...so let me detail what happened." He tried not to sigh again because everything that had happened was almost like a train wreck with near impossible events at the end.
"Kage and Mara got into a fight that ended with Mara having her memory temporarily erased. " he grimaced as he said it "Kage used that time to escape with Andy and Blaise while taking you hostage. Ree and Zira were sent after them, it ended with Ree giving Zira an order that flipped the car killing you and nearly Blaise. " his fingers dug into his own jacket but he never looked away or let any of the emotions he was feeling to leak out onto his face.
"Andy and Kage who were outside were unharmed and you were sent off with Andy. Ree allowed everyone else to leave before he and Zira eventually chased your inhibitor signal to a recently abandoned renegade base." These were the parts he received from Ree and Zira. " Inside we found one of their members, Leukos, keeping Ashral calm. The renegade leader and one of his subordinates healed you and left you for us to find. Leukos purposely stayed behind to keep her company " not mentioning how long records said she was dead before they found her, unless Andy zapped the inhibitors off while she carried her and then carried them with her...it was a while.
"Ree assumed you were still dying and attempted to heal the left over wounds which Ashral then transferred to him." He looked pointedly to her stomach then up at her. " Since Ashral was weak and being handled well by Leukos, it was decided to take them both back to the base. Leukos kept her calm for most of the week until a meeting between the metas on the base just to..touch bases, finished with Ashral attempting to get me to agree to her deal. Ree pointed out a flaw and she adjusted it to the one I mentioned and offered it to him ..which he agreed to. " this time he clenched the fabric of his sleeve within his fist, his only outward sign of anger.
"If she is planning to break the deal or if she has some ulterior motives...we just don't know " he said quietly to her. "So I can't truthfully tell you to trust her. At the same time, she is the danger and not you " he sighed again "I wouldn't want to see you gone " this time he let go of his own sleeve and tried to brush her hair gently with his finger tips, some comfort some indication he cared even through his guilt.

She was about to insist on the notion that it wouldn't have mattered if she was killed, but then Tri began to explain what had happened, her eyes intent on his face as she listened, hanging onto every word as he spoke. Kage had kidnapped her during an escape. Ree had ordered her to be killed. Ree and Zira came to claim her dead body. Ashral woke up and was calmed by Leukos. The renegade leader brought her back to life somehow. She was left to be reclaimed by SIU. Then Ree tried to save her...... even though he ordered the kill. Possible change of heart. Thanks to Leukos, she was allowed to continue living by Ashral. And finally, Ree took the deal for Ashral to protect them in exchange for going outside and being able to leave in the end.
It all seemed straight forward, though she didn't understand why Ree would choose to sacrifice her life, even if she was okay with the idea, but then turn around and try to heal her and even make a deal to protect her. Things didn't exactly add up, but she took them for the value they were as Tri had been the one to tell her.
Tri revealed that he didn't know if Ashral would break the deal or had ulterior motives, as Hexxis nodded slightly in understanding. She is the danger and not you. The words stung hard, as a small glint of agony glimmered through but settled quickly back behind a strong emotionless expression. "A big risk. I would not have recommended most of those actions. Nothing can change that now, only move forward." her voice was low as she then shifted her gaze to the bed and opened her left eye. "I want to get stronger. To protect you from me. But the stronger I get, the stronger she will become when she surfaces. A problem I have been battling since the fight with the renegade attack." her words were far more mature than the body it emerged from as she stared down at the inhibitors around her wrists. "I want to be strong enough to not need them. However, as long as Ashral still exists within, that... will likely never happen." she tensed a bit as she then looked to Tri, pain visibly in her eyes as it almost looked like she could cry but no tears would come, only a look of anguish was a much emotion as she could feasibly display, even then, only Tri could know her true feelings. Hexxis wouldn't allow anyone else to see her this way. "..what.. do I do?.."

Tri saw the moment he misstep in the pain her saw on her face as mild as it was. He had not meant that she was not trained or a danger herself, but that she was trusted. As he started to correct that she spoke and he listened instead of interrupting.
" I wouldn't have recommended the majority of those actions but Ree can be... impulsive sometimes " he sigh as he used the distraction of those words to try and find something that wouldn't injure her and would give her a goal.
Yet ..what ever she did would give the malice power..and now that Ashral wasn't taking power from Hexxis torment she would be taking it elsewhere as well as learning. What to do was a tricky problem and one he would want to talk to Kae about if it seemed Ashral was keeping her word. Yet for now..what to say ...his last attempt to comfort her only made it worse. Yet she has ask to get stronger against Ashral..that did not mean she had to be stronger physically just mentally, especially if Ashral was asleep.
"I might have an idea... but I will need to speak to Kae " telling her while the malice was awake was not the best of ideas. He pulled his hand back seeing her pain and felt it reflected in him. If that didn't work then he would look around for something else, but he hoped Kae would have an idea. "Then you need to recover fully...can you wait that long?" he said softly.
