The weather had begun to show signs of the oncoming summer. Days were less cold, more mild, and a few were even warmer than normal. In fact, the temperature was well above normal when Chailee walked out of school with the sun blaring down from a cloudless blue sky and it practically beckoned her to revel in the beautiful weather. So, tossing a quick message to her parents, who were even more protective of her than before and demanded constant check-ins, Chailee turned herself in the direction of the park. She took the time to walk there instead of hopping a bus. It wasn't terribly far, plus it gave her more time to bask in the warm rays of the sun.

IT seemed many other people had the same idea as the teen. There were quite a lot of people out walking around. She watched as people passed her. Most paid her no heed or merely gave her a passing glance. Still, as she looked at each person in turn, Chailee wondered if they were someone she should recognize? Sure, maybe the relationship wasn't a strong one but perhaps she passed this same person multiple times before? Surely she would remember that? But, alas, nothing came to her. Every face was as new as the next.

I am just being silly, now. There's no way that there's a chance I know one of these people walking around. She mentally admonished herself and picked up her pace as she caught sight of the entrance to the park ahead.

The park trees bore sweet, light green leaves that were newly emerged into the world. A few trees were still bearing their flowers, but many were loosing the fragile petals quickly. In fact Chailee found herself a dogwood tree to position herself under, leaning against it's trunk for lack of finding a free bench. It was comfortable enough, and she enjoyed the flurry of petals around her whenever the breeze would move through the boughs above.

Rooting around in her school bag, Chailee pulled out the small case for her flute. It didn't take long for her to assemble the instrument and after snapping the case closed to keep any stray petals from making it a home, Chailee lifted the silver instrument to her lips. Eyes closed, she played a soft, slow ballad. A random song she had learned a year or two ago during her flute lessons. It was particularly hard but had a pretty sound to it that let the girl just relax and enjoy the moment she was in as she tried to forget her constant worry and anxiety.

She was so absorbed in her music that she didn't notice anyone walking up to her until she finished the piece and opened her eyes. She startled and blushed. "I am sorry. I hope I wasn't bothering you?"

Between school and senshi stuff, it wasn't often that Peter got time for himself. In fact, the only reason he was making his way through the park that afternoon was to scope out the area for patrolling that night. He was hoping to find better vantage points to observe youma instead of just dusting them right away.

For science, of course.

The sound of a flute drew his attention, like many others around him in the park. He watched as they turned to look at the girl near the tree, and then continued on their way, but instead of moving along with his search of a good place to hide that night, he frowned sadly. Peter approached slowly, shuffling his feet along the ground with his hands in the pockets of the cargo shorts he’d changed into after school. He wore a teeshirt that had the Starfleet emblem, and a lightweight zip-up hoodie was slung over one shoulder and brought around underneath his other arm, the sleeves tied where they met diagonally across his chest, almost like a sash.

He dug the toe of his shoe into the dirt as he stood in front of her, first staring down at the soil he’d disturbed, and then up at the trees to the left of them as she realized he was standing there. It didn’t sound as though she remembered him, and he continued to frown without looking directly at her.

“Nah, it was good,” he said to put her at ease, and then finally turned to look down at her, wanting to make sure she wasn’t injured. She didn’t seem to be. That was good. Se seemed to have healed just fine. Her memories, like his brother’s, didn’t seem to be all pieced together, though. So it was probably weird for some random guy to approach her.

“It’s Peter,” he introduced softly, looking down at her as he continued to frown, although he hoped his expression didn’t seem harsh.

Chailee watched the boy as he fidgeted frowned at the world around them. Her own brows creased slightly as she contemplated what could be bothering him. As she sat there, a small panic began to form in her chest as that doubt began to resettle in her mind. It could be evident in the way she tensed and she clutched at the flute laying across her lap. Do I know him? This was getting so frustrating!

"Thanks" She responded to the compliment, unsure of what else to say.The way her looked at her made her even more uncomfortable. At this point she was pretty sure he knew her and was waiting for some sort of 'how are you' or 'long time no see'. Why else would he be studying her the way he was?

She was about to open her mouth to say something when he beat her to it and introduced himself. It was if a weight had been lifted form her shoulders and the tension slowly began to ease away. Letting out a breath of air she hadn't realized she had been holding her own frown slowly turned into a shy smile. "Chailee."

"If you're not in a rush care to sit down? I mean, it's not a bench or anything but it's really pretty and relaxing to sit under the trees." She scooted herself over a bit to provide a spot for the boy to lean against the trunk of the tree should he so like. "Do you play any sort of instruments?" She questioned, always curious about the hobbies of other people, especially when they took interest in her own.

Peter kept his hands in his pockets as he dug at a rock in the dirt with the toe of his shoe. He shrugged lightly when Chailee asked if he had time to side, but did as she said and withdrew his hands from his pockets so he could slide the strap of his bag off his shoulder, and turned around to plop down with his back against the tree. He did at least make sure to be far enough to give her some space.

"Nah," he said when she asked if he played any instruments. He leaned his head back against the trunk of the tree and planted the soles of his feet spread apart against the ground, his wrists draped over each knee.

"I'm no good at music," he explained, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. How much did she remember? She didn’t seem to know him at all.

“The same thing happened to my brother that happened to you,” he said suddenly without any extra pretext. “Same b***h did it, too. Sorry,” he quickly apologized for his language. “I’m glad you’re okay though. Or seem okay. Are you okay?” he asked, turning his head more fully to look at her, as if to try and see if something was physically wrong. Thankfully, it didn’t look that way. Emotionally, he doubted that she would be okay for a while. Who would?

As he settled himself down, Chailee smiled. While he situated himself she decided to take a part her flute. If she was going to have company she wasn’t going to ignore him and continue to play. So with practiced ease she twisted a part the instrument before reaching over to the care to grab the spit rag to clean out the inside of it. “Hm. I bet you’re better than you think.” She said, as she continued to clean the silver instrument. “I was horrible at first, but I got better over time. I doubt I’ll ever bee amazing or anything, but it’s nice hobby.”

After giving the instrument a careful cleaning she grabbed the case and began to put it away. As she lowered the last piece in she nearly dropped it at Peter’s words. Taking a deep breath to try and ease the almost instant panic, she snapped shut the case of the flute. She didn’t turn to face him. Instead she stared at the black case as she tried to calm herself and keep the tears that instantly wanted to sprout up at bay.

“I...I should know you…” She said more to herself than to Peter but the words certainly could reach his ears considering the proximity. Carefully she turned to face him, eyes roving over him as she tried her best to remember who he was. Where had they met? Were they close friends? Classmates?

The more she struggled to remember the more upset she became and she bit her lip. “I…” She wasn’t sure how to answer his question. Ok? Well, in the physical sense she was ok. Her cuts and bruises had faded leaving no visual effects of the battle she had been a part of, but mentally...no. No she wasn’t. But how was she to explain that to someone who, in her mind, was a complete stranger? How does she explain that she looks at each person who approaches her and wonders if they are someone she should remember? How she fears she’ll make a mistake somehow and hurt someone’s feelings because of it?

Unbidden, but unable to hold them at bay, a few tears leaked out to run down her cheeks. Squinting her eyes shut she tried to stop the flow, but it was so terribly hard. She was tired of the fear and anxiety. “I guess...I don’t know…” She shook her head. “No.”

He could tell that she was getting upset. He would too if he realized that he really didn’t recognize people that he should have known. It must be hard on her, just like it must be hard on his brother and everyone else in their lives.

“You’re not alone, okay?” he said, even though he didn’t look at her. Instead just stared at the grass below his feet. “My name is Oberon. I know who you are. I was there when it all… happened. I’m sorry I couldn’t do more. I should have been able to. I was right there,” he said through gritted teeth, remembering trying to fight off Laurelite like it was just yesterday.

“I’m sorry. I should have been able to…. do something,” he apologized again. “But you’re not alone. You can call me, or Haven, or anyone. There are people who are going to be glad you’re okay. Well… that you’re alive. It’s going to be hard, but we can help you with new memories.”

It was not enough, he knew. He was probably frightening her, or upsetting her, or any number of things. But she had to know.

“Here, I can give you my number in case you need to call. If you don’t already have it. You should have it, at least.” Unless her phone glitched out and erased everything.

Oberon? Oh...OH! The connection was instantly made and she finally felt like she had someway to put some memories together of Peter/Oberon, even if they were only from being powered up. Though few they were. Chailee vaguely wondered how close of friends they had been? Perhaps just aquaintances? Maybe a bit more? She had no idea, but he was doing his best to help her and that told the bluenette quite a lot about Peter's character and their possible relationship.

Sniffing back the tears, Chailee nodded at Peter's attempts to ease her. Though she wasn't sure who Haven was, and probably should, she tried not to dwell. Instead she wiped at her face to clean it of the tears that had run down and hoped her eyes didn't look puffy or her nose red. Crying always made her look ugly, she thought.

"Um...maybe I have it?" She fished around in her bag for her phone before pulling out the device decorated with a floral phone case and a horse charm. Unlocking it she quickly navigated to her contacts, another sniff escaping her before she found the name she was looking for. "Peter. Yea, you're in here. I've been sort of....avoiding my contact list since I know so few of the names in it." She admitted.

Glancing up from the phone to look at Peter, Chailee could tell that he was upset over her distress. In typical Chay fashion she immediately flashed him a smile before crawling over to him to embrace him in a short, quick hug. "Thank you for trying to help me back then. I'll be fine. I'll...I'll figure this all out and until then I'll just need to make new memories, like you said." Her smile was still on her face as she pulled away. A touch of sadness was still there in her eyes but there was hope too. Hope that maybe she'd get over this. That maybe she'd regain her lost memories.

If not, at least she had friends like Peter to help her make new ones to replace those lost.

The hug wasn’t expected, and Peter’s eyes widened in surprise as she put her arms around him, his face heating a little in the process. He wasn’t entirely sure how to respond, or what to do to offer any more comfort. Luckily, she’d already pulled back before he had the chance to do anything that he would probably regret later, coughing softly to clear his throat that was suddenly too tight.

"Yeah, don’t mention it," he mumbled, lifting a hand to rub at his hair, glancing away from Chailee and her sad looking smile. "Call any time," he said with a small shrug, knowing it was probably difficult enough for her with very few memories.

It was difficult enough to fight in this war, but to not have the memories of friends or family or whoever was, well. He didn’t want anyone to have to go through that. But as long as there was someone there to help, he thought that should be okay. Even if it wasn’t much, he wanted to be around to help when he could.
