He was getting more hits than he'd expected considering the events took place nearly five years ago. It made him wonder how...reliable his sources would be, but James had been getting desperate with everything he was finding. He needed information that either backed his memories or proved them to be false.
Admittedly, the grad student, hadn't expected the toll it would take on him, or the spike of anxiety that accompanied each and every one of those meetings. Once upon a time, he'd been a man who loved those heart-pounding adventures but dying - even temporarily - really put things into perspective.
Especially when you couldn't remember the events leading up to said death, or the time spent as a ghastly specter, properly. Stuff like that was traumatizing, but in the sake of knowledge James was seeking the truth.
Even if he felt sick in the aftermath.
A girl messaged him, Roxy she said her name was, and he responded almost immediately with a time and place.
Text to Roxy Saturday 1:56 P.M Monday at 11:30 AM at Just Add Coffee Work? chirigami let me know if this works or if i need to adjust!

It usually took much convincing for Roxanne Setle to return home; usually in the form of family or her crew. But even then, there would be effort involved. The blonde was enjoying her time away, studying her passion in fashion and textiles outside Destiny City limits. But if there was one little thing that could, it was that horrible time in space.
Sure, there was that part of her that wanted to completely forget it but this was Roxy and oh did she want to rant about the subject. And if anyone was willing to hear her tales of woe even after five years, then she would take what she could get.Text to James Don't have class on Monday. That sounds great! She would have to jet it home afterwards for Tuesday, but at least she could make a short weekend out of it. Her parents would be pleased at least to see their daughter before she holed up for her final projects.nuxaz Nah, this works perfectly! I'm assuming we time jump next post? xD

With the time and place set and agreed upon, James prepped his notebook, which now included several pages of recounts and headed to the coffee shop about an hour early. Nervously, he sat at the counter that curved around the barista's work space and made poor attempts at grading some papers. The distraction didn't last long before he gave up and tucked the schoolwork back into it's folder and slid it into the messenger bag at his feet.
Fifteen minutes to 11:30, James slid his phone out and shot the girl a quick text. Text to Roxy I'll be sitting at the end of the counter, behind the left espresso machine when you arrive. While he waited he sipped at some tea in a stay cup, opting to avoid coffee due to his nerves, and picked at the edges of his notebook.

After a few quick errands, Roxy arrived at the chosen location with well enough time to order herself a drink and a small snack to pick at during the meeting. She hadn't bothered to scope the area as she waited, for once, choosing not to survey the possibilities of whom she was going to meet but instead checked her Facebook updates.
Just as her caramel macchiato got to one hand, the other felt the familiar buzz of her phone as it chirped James' message, alerting the blonde to his location. She glanced up and hummed in surprise upon realizing he hadn't been too far from her all along, just a few steps away even. "Well, that is convenient." Perhaps loud enough for him to hear.
"James, I assume?" Her voice as pleasant sounding as she could manage as she rounded upon the male behind the left espresso machine, "Roxanne Selte." Drink placed on the counter (dangerously close to a few of those papers) so she could hold a well manicured hand towards him; though in a way that seemed like she might actually want him to kiss it instead of shake it.

While his head was down, green eyes fixated on the plastic lid of his coffee cup, he was very aware of the people milling around the shop. His ears seemed to perk at the sound of the woman's voice, chin lifting slightly and head tilting so he could sneak a glance.
Sneaking seemed unwarranted because she was standing in front of him merely seconds later.
"Yeah," he replied, smoothing a palm over his jeans before sticking his hand out to her for a handshake. "It's a pleasure - " he realized the position of her hand and hesitated, let his hand hover in the air.
Eventually it simply fell flat because he couldn't decide if he should shake it or kiss it like she seemed she might want. He was nervous already, this only spiked his growing anxiety about the whole ordeal. "Uh, there's a booth back there," he gestured with the hand that had grabbed his coffee while he hurried to stuff things back in his bag and sling it over his shoulder.
"It'll be easier to talk about it. I appreciate you coming to meet me by the way. This whole thing - been a trip down memory lane."

It didn't bother her in the least that he simply let her hand hang there in the air, just giving her a verbal greeting as he fumbled with all the items he had surrounded himself with. In the least, it allowed her to pluck her drink off the counter before a disaster struck. He seemed so nervous, she was almost surprised he didn't seem to be forgetting something. Or that he would manage a full sentence without stuttering.
"Oh yes," she almost cooed, her yellow eyes glancing at the empty booth he had indicated, "let us go somewhere private." Roxy couldn't help the endearing little smile that spread across her lips as she followed behind to that secluded little corner. "And it was no trouble, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to rant about that experience." Despite efforts to simply let it go. But, if someone was actually willing to discuss it, how could she?nuxaz I am sorry, Roxy is going to be terrible

James blinked at Roxy, halting mid movement to stare at her. It was clear that he was trying to process who she was as a person before the strap slid over his shoulder and he nodded. He looked as thought he was going to say something but thought better of it, instead turning his back to her and making his way toward the booth.
Once there, he set his cup down, slid the strap from his shoulder and set it next to the bench before slipping into the seat.
"Well, it's still appreciated," he commented, pulling a legal pad from his bag and a pen along with an ipod set to a voice memo. "You don't mind if I record this do you?" He didn't trust himself with hand written notes, not after he found all those blacked out notebooks. It uploaded into multiple clouds, as long as he was connected to the WIFI. He didn't want to risk another lapse in memory and loss of important information.
"I'd like to focus on everything about the event that stood out most to you." He sounded more relaxed, a little more confident. This was business and frankly, James Ryan Cheney needed answers.

That look that he gave her, that blank stare that one could almost see the wheels turning only made Roxy feed a larger smile his way. He might still be trying to process her, as she had been with him but the blonde had already come to the conclusion that this boy was going to be a fun one.
"Oh, I don't mind at all," Roxy replied as she slide into the opposite end of the booth from him - with a small little scoot in closer to him - and set her purchases upon the table. "I do like the sound my own voice, I hope you find it enjoyable." Though, she did have to wonder who still owned an ipod this day and age. James apparently.
To his inquiry, Roxy let it sit for a moment in silence before she hummed softly to herself and tapped delicately at her chin. Her gold eyes went skyward in thought. Even after the years had passed, there was still much she remembered even if the details were fuzzy. Names were mostly what had escaped her after all this time but there were still things to recall, "I remember losing my favorite bedazzler during that time, it was tragic." Clearly, the most important detail. "But even with all the rubble it was actually really beautiful there. And oh, the clothes!" She lamented as she leaned back against the padded backing of the booth, "so gorgeous but they were such pricks about taking them. Everyone got so pissy when we needed those things to survive."
"Our hosts were not welcoming, they didn't seem to care," and here came the ranting. "Nor the other people who came." Roxy huffed and rolled her eyes. "And there was a whale that ate people." And the kicker, "and I do recall dying, which was really unpleasant and uncalled for." The blonde straightened herself at that and took a sip of her drink.

Roxy's words were rewarded with a soft smile, one that was more bashful than joyful but a smile none the less. "Well, prattle away then," he replied, gesturing that the 'floor' was hers. Besides, James would rather listen than talk anyway.
He didn't want to muddle people's recounts with his own. He'd never get a better picture of what really happened if he poisoned everything with his own, clearly tainted, memories. He wasn't going to say that though. He didn't need anyone to know that he felt like he was losing his mind.
Memory gaps aside.
"Was it on you when you..." James hesitated, unsure of the proper word to use. "Disappeared?" He himself had lost his favorite fountain pen and leather bound journal. In fact he was pretty sure that something had eaten it. A whale maybe?
"Can you describe it for me?" He asked, jotting things down as Roxy continued to speak. He vaguely remembered the architecture and what he did remember was beautiful just like Roxy said. "And them, the hosts that is." He had seen knights of Chronos but none of them were any of the people he remembered seeing before everything was just energy and light.
"Do you remember who the people who...came were?" He'd been looking down at his legal pad, writing small and neat block letters for easy reference later, but his head snapped up when she mentioned a whale. "Wait. Did you turn a solid color when the whale was around?" The whale was one of the things he distinctly remembered.
"Another girl mentioned dying, can you be a little more...detailed about the experience?"

Roxy had honestly gotten lost in her recollection (really true to her word about her enjoyment of speaking) that she hadn't noticed James attempting to chime in for elaborations of a few of the details she had spoken up about. It wasn't until about his second inquiry that she heard him speak, but that wasn't going to stop her until she finished her train of thought. Naturally. And pause to enjoy her order.
Her fingers picked at the muffin, for now it didn't seem she had much intention to eat it rather than just to have something for her fingers to work at as she decided to consider which of his questions to back track to. The first one she had completely missed, so that was an easy elimination. "I only explored a few of them myself," the blonde finally continued, "I believe a few were off limits but the few open seemed to have very specific architecture."
"One of them was clearly influenced by the baroque period, that's the one we mostly stayed at," now if she could remember what it was called it would have been probably helpful. Honestly, it was pretty easy to remember the general idea of their names, but which name of the zodiac it was was escaping her. "very ornate, frills and gold upon the walls. I got most of my clothing from the guest rooms there and a few from one of the other locations. A little more Greek or Roman influence really." Virgo maybe? Or Leo? Libra didn't sound right.
"Anyway," she shook her head as a frown began to form upon her features, "our hosts were completely useless." Obviously a sour subject from the tone of her voice, but even then it wasn't like she was going to dodge the subject entirely even though she wasn't fond of them in the least, "Oddly a lot of blondes among the group, one had very short shorts and he ditched us on the road. Another we swiped food from, but she was a rightful b***h about everything." Couldn't even take a compliment, that one. "Very colorful, a lot of white clothing. Beautiful outfits. I asked one of them, the b***h with the food, about her's but she told me off." Roxy shook her head as she wrinkled her nose. "Oh," she then blinked as a memory snaked into her mind, "there was a girl who turned into a cat." How did she forget that one? The stupid thing had taken her chips.
"I only saw the others that came briefly," Roxy continued finally pulling her fingers away from the destruction of her muffin, "more important things going on. Like not dying," she almost laughed at that. "But they had a different style of outfits, darker and they carried weapons." Her voice didn't give the impression that she favored them either.Nuxaz Seems like a good blurb for now, she's rattle on a bit more xD

Jame didn't know what he'd been expecting when Roxy went off on her tirade but it wasn't what he got.
Regardless, he was attentive and jotted notes down here and there was he listened to what she had to say. His memory of the place was a mess and the way she was describing, using influences and even art eras was greatly appreciated. "You wouldn't happen to still have clothing from there would you?"
James didn't.
Of course he died far too early to even change his clothes. "Do you remember what the girl, or cat looked like?" He didn't have much experience with guardian cats BUT a girl who turned into a cat sounded an awful lot like one. He remembered Zirconia, she'd taken a picture of him as Aluminite.
Told him agents were just chaos knights. You could've been a knight, one of Chronos', he thought to himself.
"Were they different that the ones who were uh - hosting you I guess?" The ones with weapons, did she mean the negaverse? This was getting messier and messier the more he talked to people.

For the first time since the beginning of this interview, Roxy was quiet for a considerable length of time. She gently placed a piece of the muffin that had nearly turned to crumbs into her mouth and chewed slowly. Calming down maybe, or gathering herself for round three.
"Sadly no,"' she sighed wistfully, "it would have made up for a little bit of it, I think, getting to keep what I gathered." Another twist of cruel fate. It had been tempting to replicate it all, but the project never got off the ground.
"The cat girl though, hm." It wasn't that she didn't exactly remember, but pinpointing the exact color was difficult. "Very light, maybe a mix of grey or a pale blue like periwinkle?" Or lavender? "She had a top hat, like a circus performer." Was this sort of information even helpful, she had to wonder. Cat girls seemed very far fetched, though he didn't have a drip of mocking in his tone when he posed his question regarding the outlandish creature.
"She seemed different, but like our hosts. Not like the ones in the darker clothing." Another piece of muffin was squished between her fingers, "I didn't exactly know their intentions, not like I had time to ask," a dark laugh, "but they didn't seem to be good either. They were fighting our hosts from all I could tell."

Sadly no.
James felt himself deflate a little when Roxy said that. It was what he expected, of course, but he'd still been hopeful despite himself. Unfortunately, he couldn't tell if it was out of a desire to simply see proof that this space event had happened or if it was because he wanted it to jog something.
These memory gaps were starling. Terrifying.
"Pity," he exhaled as he tried to recompose himself. Again, the description meant little to James, but he jotted it all down anyway. Maybe he could inquire about the cat girl and if he was lucky, he could find her. Ask her questions.
They were fighting our hosts from all I could tell.
That James remembered, but he couldn't tell the good from the bad. Stupid ghostness. Stupid death.
"You said you died. Do you remember how and what happened - uh, after?" God that sounded like a stupid question but - If Roxy had been like him she'd died but didn't in all that complicated magical bullshit.
