"So long as you don't do any lasting damage to 'em, I won't let my pack eat'cha."

"I'll try to be gentle."

Ever since settling in Jauhar once again Callum had allowed his training to slip away. At first he had been too preoccupied with the thoughts of seeing Aisha, then finding a surrogate and now that Eema was expecting he felt he was allowed a little breathing room. Now more than ever he needed to make sure his sword was sharpened and ready to take on whatever was out there for him.

Today just happened to be a pack of barely trained radaku.

One of Corine's oldest friends trained and bred radaku to act as guards for family homes. He was a surly old man, one prone to snarling and growling just like the very beasts he tamed. Callum thought it was amusing at times, but not now, when at the snap of his fingers five growling beasts would charge at him.

They were all waiting behind the old man, poised to strike. They needed the practice just as much as Callum had, though he wasn't looking forward to seeing just what they could do. The man had assured Callum that once they bit him they wouldn't break skin, just leave marks, and that would count as a victory for them. But what if he struggled, and the radaku bit down on impulse? It was terrifying to think about, but here he was, ready to give it a shot.

Once again, like in his match with Nimueh, his sword was wrapped tight in it's leather sheath so that he wouldn't accidentally cut into one of them. He didn't want to harm them; not in a lasting way, anyway. Callum rotated his shoulders before dropping into a striking stance. He breathed slowly through his nose, looking at and marking the radaku to his memory. One against five were never good odds, so the likelihood of at least one getting the jump on him was high.

"Ready! Set!" The old man raised his right hand in the air and brought the left up to his lips. When Callum nodded his ascension, the older shifter whistled twice in quick succession before the pack charged.

Callum wasn't ready for the sheer mass of bodies coming his way. It was a veritable wave of snapping fangs, claws, and whip like tales attacked to massive bodies. He dodged out of the way of the initial horde, though that did little to save him from their quick reflexes. The radaku were much smarter than he gave them credit for; when he ducked, so did they and no matter how much he moved away from them it was as if they anticipated his movements.

He was going to have to stand, and fight.

The first radaku to reach his face was met with the flat of his sword connecting against it's head. It yowled, falling back to the way side so that it's siblings could take up the mantle. Callum's heart raced inside of his chest as he batted away radaku after radaku, swinging his sword in wide arcs to hopefully keep them far enough away to avoid a bite. In a panick he tried to count how many radaku he saw One...two...three...four.... The fifth was missing, but not for long.

With a sharp, surprised cried Callum felt fangs latch themselves onto his lower leg. True to their masters word the beast didn't' bite through the skin, though Callum couldn't tell why he didn't just do it. The bite itself would leave a large, nasty bruise, so he might as well have bitten through! When it let go of him he jumped away, landing hard on his injured leg with a grimace. Nimueh was going to kill him for this!

"Strike one!"

Callum noticed that once that particular radaku had made his mark he hung on the fringes of the pack. It was as if it were giving them his support, even if he'd already tapped out of the fight. Callum thought that if the creature were capable of smirking it would be at that moment.

It wasn't long after that when another radaku jumped onto his back from behind, pushing him onto his stomach in the dirt. The creature bit into his already scarred shoulder, causing Callum to cry out in pain. "Strike two!" Memories assaulted him of the sermal attack, and it was enough to give the man a burst of energy. He bucked the radaku off, keenly aware of just how sore he was now and as he moved back to his feet he fended off another hit. This time he was the one to come out the victor. Callum swung his sword, slicing up a thick line straight through the underbelly of the charging radaku. Even with his sword covered the creature was likely going to bruise, much like him, and it seemed content enough to fall back with a series of whimpers.

"Good job, kid, now watch out for the others!"

It had been so long since Callum had been called a kid that he was momentarily taken off guard, which was enough time for the fourth radaku to make her move. She latched onto his sword arm, breaking through his flesh despite her master's warning. He'd never seen such hatred in any creature before, and for a moment was utterly terrified by her. The radaku clawed at him, biting down into his arm despite all attempts to dislodge her while her sibling latched onto one of his legs.

Callum dropped his sword in the scuffle. He tried to pry the female's maw off his arm with his fingers, but nothing could dislodge her. She wasn't biting down hard enough to do lasting damage, although neither was she keen on letting go.

He hadn't realized how bad it was until the old man showed up with three older, more properly trained radaku to scare the young ones off. Callum didn't get a good look at his arm before it was wrapped up hastily in a bandage. "Come on, we've gotta get you fixed up."

"I think...you should keep training them..."

"Ya think?" The older shifter smirked and pulled Callum away to tend to his wounds.
