Downward Slash
: A powerful downward thrust, this attack gives you an additional +3 to dmg only. This can only be used once every 3 turns. Is considered a full action.

Three Wonders: Three wonders, or Drey Wunder (German), involves three moves. A thrust, a wide cut (torso or thigh) and then a close cut (usually forearms or hands) Dmg and to hit is only rolled once as normal. But each 'to hit' is reduced by 5.
Example: you roll 21 total to hit. first attack hits. second attack is reduced by 5 and is only 16 third is reduced again by 5 and is then 11. The likeliness of all three attacks hitting is slim but greater for 3-4 stage's. Dmg total is reduced in half twice.

Original dmg = first hit
dmg halved = second hit
dmg halved yet again = third hit

This is considered a FULL action and can only be used once every 5 turns. All dodges must be rolled separately for each attack being dodged and must be in order of attacks. First roll reflects first attack, second for second ect. Powering up should be factored into the first attack. Attack two and three will be halved from that first amount

In recent months the impending arrival of their children had softened Callum. He hadn't been as focused on his training as he should have been, which left him with far too much pent up energy. For the most part he'd found other ways to let go of some of that stamina, but only a good sparring match would keep his sword arm in fighting shape.

Not only was his blade kept in it's sheath, but Callum wrapped it further with a leather cord to ensure that it would stay that way. He had no desire to cut his lover's flesh, though some bruising would be inevitable. "I don't think we've ever had a match in earnest, have we?" Sure, they had playfully scuffled from time to time, but most of that had ended in some sort of affectionate coddling. Callum hadn't even come at his partner like he would an enemy, and honestly, the thought of doing it now was a little intimidating. How would he match up against his lover's shield?

He padded across the open area that had been deemed as a suitable training ground. Once his sword was properly wrapped he flicked it out, testing the balance before taking his stance.

Nimueh wasn't truly a fighter, at least not in the sense that Callum was. A hunter, sure - and after returning to Zena he had taken up training with his shield with a vengeance, determined to have some form of self defense for the future. The feeling of helplessness when Callum was mauled by a sermal only reinforced this dedication. But when it came down to it, Callum had trained with his sword for a long time - and Nimueh was still quite the novice. Sure, he had size and raw strength, but Callum was quick on his feet, and experienced.

But with their future child or children coming, Nimueh could see the sense in training together. They needed to know eachother's capabilities, intimately, if they were to protect themselves and their family. It meant working together, and that meant knowing the other's limits. So, logically, Nimueh understood - but emotionally he was still wary. His own shield was just polished wood, bound together - but with strength behind it, it could crack bone and bruise flesh easily. As Callum wrapped his sheath securely, Nimueh watched, his shield strapped to his arm, dropping cautiously into a rusty stance once his lover was ready. "Hard not to be distracted, with you as my opponent." Nimueh returned, cracking a smile.

Callum rolled his shoulders, turning his head to the side at the same time for a satisfying 'pop'. He was excited for this; probably more than his passive lover, but ready for a rousing good spar.

"I'll try not to blind you with my 'moves'." The smaller man grinned, giving in to a sweeping mock bow with his sword before taking his stance up one again. Where once the blade had been clunky in his hands now it was no more than an extension of his own arm. Callum felt at peace with his blade, and while it did strike him as unusual to be going against someone he didn't want to hurt, he knew it would only benefit them in the end.

So, without warning, he charged, and brought his blade up in a sweep.

Nimueh takes 5 dmg, then Powers Up! (Power up gives you a + 3 to hit and dmg for your NEXT attack turn. Or +3 to dodging if needed.)

Honestly, it was exhilirating to see Callum in his element. A long time ago, when they'd traveled together in Sauti that first time, he'd been concerned to see his friend take up a sword... but now? Callum was an accomplished fighter; and so, wouldn't it be the best kind of learning experience, to go up against him? Huffing out a surprised laugh, Nimueh tipped his head forward to return the gesture.

Callum lifted back up from his fully orchestrated bow sooner than Nimueh had, and so when Nim lifted his eyes it was to the sight of his lover shooting forward swiftly, sheathed sword arching up towards him. Startled by his speed, Nimueh grunted in surprise and stumbled backwards, ducking his shield down just in time - the attack missed hitting his flesh, but instead resoundingly struck the edge of his shield.

From that angle, Nim's shield was swept upwards with the momentum of the attack, sending the force and vibration up his forearm sharply.

Tomorrow, he would have a sore reminder not to underestimate Callum's swordplay!

In retrospect it might have been more sporting to give Nimueh a warning. However, battles didn't come with pleasantries so Callum only felt moderately guilty. There was a reason why his opponents often called him a moracker; not only was it a play on his Sauti heritage, but it was a direct comment on his speed. If Nimueh was going to fight along side him he would need to be able to roll with that, and as much as Callum didn't want to harm his lover, he wasn't going to make it easy for him either.

Callum changed up his tactics, dodging to the side as Nimueh backed up. He twisted his foot in the dirt, then shot in from the side with a straight jab.

Knocked off balance, and with his shield arm still recovering, Nimueh wasn't able to contend with the quick footwork his partner displayed. He was either rusty from not training for the past few weeks, or Callum was too skilled and too quick for him. The attack hit him full in the side, making him flinch, but with the sheath wrapped as it was, it was far from dangerous to his health, only painful.

Finally, Nimueh was able to catch his balance, releasing a pent up breath. Dropping back into stance, he swung at Callum with his shield - and fell woefully short. Flustered upon realizing his error, the alkidike raised his shield and flung himself backwards, intent on putting distance between the two. "Good to know you aren't pulling any punches!" He was able to say, voice breathless.

Making solid contact was both gratifying, and nerve wracking. Was he hitting Nim too hard? Beyond Ming'we he'd never spared with someone he hadn't intended to hurt, so this business of 'teaching' instead of 'injuring' was a wild ride for the swordsman.

Still though, he would have been lying if he said he wasn't having fun. "Why should I? You'll never learn that way!" Callum didn't let up. When Nimueh tried to put distance between them, the smaller warrior closed the gap and brought his sword down in a hard strike.

Nimueh takes 11 dmg!

And, of course, the blow hit. By now, already shaking from exertion, Nimueh was certain he would lose the battle - but that didn't mean he wasn't going to put his all into it. Grinning, despite the blow that landed, solidly, against his middle, Nimueh shifted his foot to brace himself, stopping his retreat so that, hopefully, Callum's intertia would carry him closer, into the way of his shield as he brought it downward as a heavy blow.

If he could land at least one hit, he would be content. For this battle, at least, because as far as he was concerned his technique was falling woefully short of the mark!

Nimueh recovered from his strike far quicker than Callum anticipated. He meant to dodge away, to keep a certain amount of distance between them, but his lover's wit trapped him. There was no where for him to go; no possible way for him to stop while his body was being propelled forward.

Callum barely recognized his mistake when the shield slammed into his chest. He hit the ground with a curse, falling on his back with a little half roll onto his side. It was harder to shake it off than he thought. Even though Callum was able to roll to his feet rather quickly, the inertia of his movements couple with the recent blow gave him a sort of temporary vertigo that left his next swing far from it's mark.

The familiar pang of concern shot through Nimueh when Callum hit the ground, hard. It seemed difficult for him to recover, but the quick slice of his sword (despite being so far off the mark) reminded him that they were still fighting, and that Callum hadn't given up despite being hit. It was difficult... more difficult than he had ever expected, but Nimueh took advantage of the stumble, shooting forward, full speed, with his shield held before him, intent on slamming into his lover with the full brunt of his shield. It wasn't the slice of a sword, but with his weight behind it, if the blow landed, it would take quite a bit to shake off.

Callum was losing steam; fast. He had never fought against a shield bearer before, and despite Nimueh's general lack of battle experience he was doing well! Of course, this boded poorly for him.

He saw the attack coming this time; tried to prep for it, even. His toes dug into the earth, bringing his feet into a defensive stance. The plan had been at the last minute to duck to the side of the shield and attack Nim's side. However, Callum didn't think about his general fatigue.

An attempt was made to move, but he didn't get going fast enough. The shield bash only stunned him; it was the hard, jarring fall that hurt. His breathing went out of his lungs in a great 'whoosh!'. It was a harder to come back from this one than the last, and Callum knew he would have an aching headache tomorrow. His head had hit the ground this time and while nothing would be lasting there was an obvious throbbing.

The Knight did his best to shake it off, and pull himself back to his feet. He ended up using his sword as a sort of cane for a full minute until his vision stopped doubling. When he felt ready to go again, he straightened his shoulders, and went back at it.

Where, just a few blows ago, Nimueh had been shaking and ready to throw in the towel, now he had landed two heavy hits. Callum hitting the ground once more, however, made him pause, and though he knew that, in a real fight, he should rush in for the 'kill', here? It was a sparring match, and it didn't seem sportsmanlike to hit Callum while he was down. Besides that... seeing him laying there, head ringing, and needing to clutch to his sword as he rose, sent a pang through Nimueh that he couldn't explain. He almost wanted to quit, but given his lover's recent obsession with growing stronger... doubted that it would be appreciated.

He could, at least, wait until he had righted himself again. This time, instead of bowling over him however, Nimueh rushed close and took a shot, attempting a shield bash by forcing how his shield arm, relying on the heavy wood to deliver a sound blow that, hopefully, wouldn't horribly injure his lover.

This time, Callum didn't even attempt to strike out at Nimueh. He wasn't that big of a fool. A slow inhale calmed him, and the exhale heralded another attack. If this didn't work he would likely be through, but he had to try.

Callum waited once again for the alk hybrid to get close but instead of position his sword for a strike he dropped low to the ground. He weaved his head underneath the incoming strike, successfully saving himself from another blow, and stuck his leg out hoping to trip his lover. It wasn't the most illustrious of moves, but he needed an edge.
