Mission Report, Team Robin, Frozen Wastelands
In the end, the mission went "well enough". Sometimes the best you can hope for is not to lose.
As an opening note, Joshua (Poochyena) has joined our team following this mission. Yes, this is the same one from the Glitter Cave; he had been waiting for us in the Frozen Wastelands and given that it was Jeremiah's insistence we go there I suspect it was coordinated. I do not believe there to be risk of harm at this time and I'm willing to ignore the fact that they set it up as such.
The Absol's request was accurate in most regards. (As a side note, I would suggest we take requests from him very seriously in the future.) The Umbreon, named Madeline, that he spoke of was indeed the center of things though not the culprit. The culprit was a Sandslash named Trevor that was a mutual friend of both her and a Weavile named Joseph. Trevor seems to have isolated Madeline and used the poison from her body in order to create a substance that burns quickly and releases a devastating poisonous gas. He supposedly had left the area before to travel and came back a changed man, going from (in Joseph's words) "not dumb" to "smart". He was quite helpful with his new found knowledge until Madeline became sick, at which point he became very protective. He carried out several murders against poison types in the area, which was likely related. We managed to cut him off from his supply of poisonous explosives and block his access to Madeline. He managed to strike when Joseph and I were alone, a fight ensued in which I was knocked out and Joseph managed to emerge as a reluctant victor. Some of the explosives were safely disposed of before we departed, the remainder should be dealt with by this time by Joseph.
In line with what both the mission and a conscience demanded, we agreed to take Madeline to the city in order to pursue treatment. Joseph, at this point, chose to lie heavily to Madeline regarding the nature of our visit and the events that had transpired. Madeline is under the belief that Trevor is alive and simply traveling to learn more. I don't like this, but for the time being I'm going to keep the truth from her. I don't know what else to do about it. Madeline was taken to the hospital for overnight examinations and the results, though not grim, were not optimistic.
Saying it simply, we don't know what's wrong with her. The doctors simply stated that "she was poisoned", but that they didn't know what by or how. Pecha berries offered temporary relief before symptoms set back in.
A nurse, who spoke in a surprisingly candid manner, admitted that they didn't know enough to fix it. Our understanding is apparently quite limited, as the usage of Pecha berries precludes most study. She did say, however, that there is very little information related to the poison of Umbreons due to its relative weakness. She compared it to a case she had encountered of a Swalot who had gorged himself on Pecha berries for a long period of time. The constant suppression of the poison in his body caused it to make more, a fact that caused it to turn against him when he stopped eating the berries. They can't diagnose it because they don't know what Umbreon poison does in large amounts but she seemed confident that that was the problem.
However, due to the risk involved with keeping a creature that constantly emits poison in a hospital the doctors were somewhat reluctant to house her day after day. Madeline agreed with this sentiment and expressed a desire to explore. After a somewhat heated discussion, we have reached an agreement to temporarily shelter her within our team room until a better solution can be worked out. She seems content with the accommodations. Jeremiah has volunteered to help remove any toxic oil that builds up on her skin, which will prevent her presence from acting as a potential safety hazard. We will be using Pecha berries sparingly in order to manage her symptoms. Support would be appreciated until a more final decision can be reached.
To be frank, I suspect that Trevor's actions may have been caused by the "madness" you spoke of. His personality was extremely different from what had been described to us. It would be prudent to assume that malice is the explanation for anything uncertain as he seemed to want everyone dead.
If this is the kind of madness you spoke of then I can see why it needs to be stopped. There wouldn't be a civilization there if we hadn't gone. It gives me chills to think about it.
