There was some comfort in color of twilight. The way that the bright colors fo day blended with the bruised blues and purples of evening... Noctua sat in the branches of a small oak tree enjoying the sight of the sky on fire with the coming night. There weren't even any energy signals in the area... not that she would know what to do with them... inviting Noctua to sink deeper into the bark and revel in the watercolor show on the horizon before her.
No sooner had she thought this than she felt a shudder slam through her. Like waking up hours after your alarm. It wasn't the sweet electricity that chaos sent sparking along her nerves... this was... different. Noctua opened her eyes and tucked her dangling legs up under her, half keeping herself safe, half getting ready to pounce. The only other signature she had ever felt was that of other agents of chaos... so whoever owned this was a mystery. For all Noctua knew, it was someone that she was better off leaving alone...

Cygnus felt like he was doing a little better.
Sure, things were still pretty terrifying, and he was not particularly used to the way the negaverse worked, but he was better than when he started, definitely! He was more willing to go out on patrol, to try things. As long as they did not get too out of hand...
And he still hated those monster things...
Well, anyway, he felt like he could be more powerful sooner rather than later. He just had to keep working at it, right? That's what everyone kept saying. They had powered up because they were working at it. Well, now it was his goal to do the same and prove to everyone that thought he was just a scared little kid that he was way more than that.
Except the moment he felt the power aura in the area he was... not so sure about his confidence. He steeled himself, looking around.
"Hey! I know you're out there, Nega scum!"

Such a small one. Noctua watched him for a moment, rolling something around in her mouth... some nameless thing that begged to be spoken but had no words to it. She ran her tongue around it, bit into it's crevasses, enjoyed it's mystery for a moment. What are you? It was like that night when she was corrupted and the call of something bigger than she was filled her mouth with the call of her power. Whatever it was the clattered against her teeth would make itself known, just as her henshin had given itself a name. So instead, while she meditated on what words needed to be given life, she leaped from the branch and landed as soundlessly as possible behind the child.
"Isn't it past your bedtime," she purred, pulling her hood up over her head to obscure her eyes in shadow. "Nega scum... now I must confess I have been called many things but never that..." She circled around to his front and knelt down, mimicing the motherly motion of straightening his fuku while she continued to speak.
"Young though you are, you have the advantage of knowledge that I do not. So, dear little one," she tightened his collar a little too tightly, "who and what are you, and why did you call me by that awful name," Noctua pushed out her lower lip in mock-hurt.

"WHY DOES EVERYONE ASK ME THAT?"
Cygnus exploded almost immediately, whirling around and looking at the stranger with a flare of anger in his eyes. He stomped his foot, pointing at her and opening his mouth to say something else, but then seeming to realize he was facing a real enemy and should probably be a little nervous.
He skipped that and jumped straight to very scared.
"Uhm."
What had he been saying? Something about nega scum, yes. And... she asked him something. His knees weren't shaking, were they? He tried to steel himself, his mind chanting that he was a super hero, and this was his job. His duty. He wasn't scared. He wasn't scared.
Struggling when she messed with his collar, feeling the threat in the motion, Cygnus shoved her and bounced backwards in one wild action.
"I'm Cygnus, Chibi Senshi of Fear! And I'm going to stop you!"

Noctua did not jump when the child exploded, nor did she jump at his promise for her demise. She only cocked a half smile as she considered him carefully. Middle school age, if she was pressed to place him. All bravado, probably only minimal action, as most children of that age were, senshi or no. All in all, he was more amusing than irritating, and Noctua loved games.
"You were going to stop me from sitting in trees," she inquired in a soft voice, leaning in conspiratorially. "Tell me, how do you know that I have done something worth punishment?"
While she spoke, that strange thing knocked against her teeth. None of the words that she said were the right ones, but the issue is that she didn't know the names of the words that begged to be spoken. Just a whisper of flavor. Just a small sigh of life across her tongue. Nothing substantial enough to truly know... But with each word Noctua spoke the names became slightly less ethereal. Just that much more solid...

"Because... because you're Chaos! Chaos always does bad things! That's why you're called that!"
Simple enough logic, for someone who did not really understand the fight he was in. He just knew that when bad things happened, Chaos, the Negaverse, were always behind it. That made them the villains.
And he was the super hero.
He puffed his chest up, thinking he could take on anything if he just told himself he could. It had worked so far, so why should he let his fear get the better of him? Just because it always did. And he always did. And he was actually the senshi OF fear, so it was sort of his thing.
"I'm not afraid of you!" he blurted out, lifting his fists. He remembered his lessons from recently. Protect his back, his legs and his chest.

More of the same. Noctua scowled as the chld repeated his mantra with different words and found her patience wearing thin. Words pounded on her teeth, slamming their fists against the bone and crying their names and Noctua could lmost make them out. She turned her bright blue eyes from the child to to trees around them and around them before settling back on the child once he was finished with his blathering.
"And you are a child," Noctua sighed. "Ergo, you must be irresponsible, impetuous, rude, and weak."
And then the words shouted their names clear as day in Noctua's ears. Her deepening scowl flipped almost instantly to a grin that threatened to split her face in two. Her hand shot out, past his small fists to capture his chin in her wickedly bony fingers. Bright and shining names slipped form her lips and were given life in a voice nearly laughing. Her attack, crying with it's first lungful of life as she gave birth to it.
"Noctua Feverish Nights."
Sailor Scout Attack: Noctua Feverish Nights Noctua closes her eyes and calls the name of her attack. Upon opening them, she will lock eyes with one person and they will be immediately subject to the attack. For the next ten seconds the victim will feel like they haven't slept well for the past few nights. They will feel sluggish, irritable, and confused. Noctua can use this attack 3 times in a battle if she pushes herself, but mostly she keeps it to twice. It's useful mostly for getting away or getting in a sucker punch if she needs to.
Note: She needs to lock BOTH eyes with her opponent. So if someone has a non functioning eye for whatever reason, the attack will not work. Alternately, if Noctua's eyes are out of commission due to whatever reason, be it darkness or injury, the attack will not work. If the environment is too dark to see anyone's eyes, the attack will fail as well.

Cygnus may have only understood half of the names she called him, but they were bad enough to get him really angry. He was not RUDE or WEAK. And even if he was, she did not have the right to say so! And those other things he didn't think were really words!
She could talk in tongues if she wanted, but he was still her enemy! Because he was good and she was evil!
When she yelled her attack, Cygnus felt tired. Very tired. He was grumpy when he was tired, but this was different. He had not really experienced much magic being used on him, and the very idea that she was able to make him feel so worn out just by yelling some words made his fear spike. She was going to kill him, because he couldn't run away. She was going to do terrible things to him!
"FEEL MY FEAR!" he yelped, shutting his eyes tightly and holding up his hands, though his legs buckled and he sank to his knees at the same time.
Sailor Scout Attack: Feel My Fear Cygnus creates a cloud of smoke that evaporates in the air. The area around him becomes infected with this gas, which makes a person's body react like it is experiencing a strong dose of fear. The effect radius is immediately around Cygnus, branching out to about five feet in any direction, and lingers in the air for ten seconds before it vanishes. If breathed in, the effects of the gas last for up to twenty seconds.

Noctua was no stranger to fear, but that didn't mean she liked it's company. Adrenaline gripped her nerves and shook them at light speed, narrowing her vision to the small soldier before her. s**t. Out of the corners of her eyes, shadows began to seethe and writhe, clawing from the darkness with wickedly sharp talons. Noctua had to run, she had to get away, but fear bolted her to the ground. Her wild blue eyes spun frantically in her skull, tracking monsters that only she could see. They had broken free of her dreams, and were finally coming for her. Noctua's mind had broken and she was going to be pulled into hell by the shadows that she ran from.
And then it was gone.
When had she begun crying? Her throat felt like a wild animal had tried to claw itself free... she must have screamed in her terror. Noctua stood, staring at the ground for several long second before her wits finally returned to her.
She struck out, suddenly and fiercely, slamming the back of her hand into Cygnus's face in rage. He forced her to feel real, searing, terrible fear. And he was no more than 12 years old. Child or no, he was a soldier now, and Noctua was going to kill him like she would any other soldier.
"I hadn't done anything worthy of your enmity," she panted, lunging to grab whatever part of the boy she could. "But when I nail your guts to your mothers door I for what you have done I will revel in the vengeance of those you love!"
Since Noctua doesn't sleep like ever, I figured she'd be more prone to Cygnus' fear attack, and so gave her a stronger reaction than might have been necessary. Just in case you were wondering if I over did her reaction biggrin Also you should tell me if I'm god modeing, I haven't done enough battles to know how to RP physical attacks and I'm paranoid.

Cygnus was surprised when his magic seemed to take effect. He had not really seen how it could be used in a battle before, and her reaction to it was just as terrifying to him as it likely was to her. He let out a shrill scream, seeing her crying and wishing he had not cast his magic at all.
This wasn't what it was supposed to be like, being a hero! She was a bad guy, but he felt wrong for making her so upset. How was he supposed to do this?! It was too HARD.
It got more difficult, though, when she snapped out of her daze and realized what happened. Her attack was fast and he had no chance of getting himself out of the way. She smashed her hand hard into his face and he fell over like a bowling pin, almost clattering on the ground comically, except it was all far too serious.
"I didn't mean to!!!" he cried, taking his turn to sob, tears running down his face from fear and pain, "I'm sorry!!! Don't hurt me! PLEASE!"

"I'm not going to hurt you, little s**t," she spat through her teeth, "I'm going to kill you. Big difference."
Her vision narrowed to one dark tunnel with Cygnus at the center, Noctua's mind following suit. Somewhere, deep inside, she knew that there was only one phrase that she could call on, and it would do nothing more than make someone slightly drowsy and grumpy. She also knew, somehow, that she wasn't able to use it again at the moment. But she could use the two hands that whatever god had given her and by those gods she was going to do so.
As he lay terrified on the ground, Noctua scrambled after him, crawling on all fours like some feral animal. Cygnus' neck was thin and frail, like a green branch under Noctua's palms. She could feel his pulse, fluttered against her hands like a frightened bird... she kept track of it as she squeezed. One two... three four... five six... She could lock her fingers at the back of his neck with ease. So small. So young... Something in the back of Noctua's mind wailed and screamed and pounded it's fists against her brain but she ignored it. She had work to do.

Cygnus was pretty sure he didn't want her to kill him, either, but he did not have much of a chance to tell her that. She was already attacking him, and it was all he could do to try and struggle and fight back as much as possible.
He flailed and kicked, forgetting everything he knew about defending himself. Not that he had learned too much, but it probably would have helped a little. Instead, he just screamed and struggled with all his might, though his sounds were cut off as she closed her hands around his throat.
Her strength was too much for him to overcome, though, and his efforts seemed lost. He felt his head getting foggy as his lungs screamed for air, and he choked out pleas and whimpers as his kicking and flailing slowed. Tears were streaming down his face as his eyes rolled back into his head, his tenuous grip on consciousness fading quickly.
This was it. He was going to die here. He had barely been alive, in the scheme of things, and had only just started his adventure as a senshi, but this was how it would end. In a horrifying failure, alone and pathetically weak, unable to defend himself from the villain.
He always believed that the hero always won. It was heartbreaking, as the darkness settled and his mind quieted, to learn how wrong he was.

Thank you for the amazing RP and also for the new solo fodder!!!
Like a trick knot, with each flail and struggle against Noctua's grip, her fists tightened. Her vision narrowed dangerously to the little lights in the senshi's eyes, watching and waiting for them to gutter out. His fists and heels beat a haphazard rhythm against the earth in dissonant harmony with his frightened little heart and then... he stilled. She couldn't have been on him for more than a minute. Sixty short seconds. A moment in time... and then...
Noctua's mind caught up with her like a freight train, snapping her vision back to normal with dizzying speed. Reality slipped quietly back into her mind stood over her dark and looming and frightening and Noctua tried to drown it out with her own voice. She leaped from the child's body as though it had burned her.
"No... no... no no... no..." But what was she denying? She had killed a child. There was no denying that. The child had begged for mercy -- begged for his life, and she had denied him both. It hadn't even been a quick death at that. It had been slow as his little lungs struggled for air, as he struggled against her bigger, stronger body. Something cold and strange touched her shoulder and grinned against her ear, whispering things that Noctua had no inclination to hear. It wasn't true. It wasn't true at all.
She had to leave. Noctua had to leave now. She ran as hard and as fast as her legs would carry her away from the body that she'd pulled life from and away from the truth that she would not admit.
