Name: Natalil

Stage: Prentice

Race: Matori

Eventual Class: Dancer

Gender: Female

Special: Blind (With Kana's permission)

Base Traits: Aloof, caring, poetic, hopeful

Personality: A naturally kind hearted girl, Natalil has had her heart grow guarded due to her years under Oban slavery. She is an exceptionally guarded young woman, believing it's better to keep her emotions locked away to better protect a fragile heart that has already suffered tremendously. Because of this, she often comes across as distant and cold, almost uncaring to the plight of others. While not cruel or rude or even mean to others, she often appears to not want put forth the effort to make friends or companions, or appears that she would much rather be alone than among others.

However, this could not be further from the truth. While she feels deeply for the pain of others due to her own history, she constantly hides her desire to help, afraid that it will be exploitated by those around her. While she wants to trust in others and have faith in them, she has great difficultly allowing herself to grow close to anybody.

All of this time alone has made Natalil find entertainment elsewhere. She directs most of her energy into creative works, mainly her dance. Freedom of movement and the ability to express herself as she wants is something she treasures most of all. She also tends to have a very poetic, whimsical way of speaking when she does talk to others, inspired by spending a little too much time daydreaming as a child. Her dreamy speech paired with her cold exterior can be quite confusing.

Despite everything, Natalil is a very hopeful person. She wants to one day repair her relationship with her people and to find the ability to grow close to them once more. She still has hope that the goodness in people is more prevalent than the bad, and she wants to truly make herself believe that again. As such, she regards everyone she meets as a clean slate, no matter if they are Oban or Alki or anything else (assuming they tell her what they are.) While she is initially more distrustful around Fire Earthlings, she won't be rude to them. Her hope is guarded and not easy to see, but it is one of the most driving aspects of her and influences her every action.

Description:
Skin Color: Her main skin color is more on the darker side, as is her underbelly. Her speckles are very bright in color and pop against her darker skin.
Eye Color: Very, very pale, partially due to her blindness.
Hair: Very long, curly hair. Like what one thinks of when they think mermaid hair, pretty much.
-Style Inspiration
-Hair Color Inspiration

Clothing: Loose, flowing clothing. Very light and breezy. Mostly blues and greens with gold accents.
-Clothes Inpsiration 1
-Clothes Inspiration 2

Accessories: Nothing

History: Born an Oban slave, Natalil most certainly didn't have an easy childhood. While her mother did all she could to shield her daughter from the harshness of their life, there was only so much that could be done. This was made worse as she had exceptionally weak eye sight as a child that would only grow worse over time, eventually leading her to becoming almost completely blind. Her mother tried her best to cover up this weakness as to not make her a target.

As a child, Natalil went out of her way to help any of her people who needed it. However, this had a tendency to get her in more trouble than not. During her younger years, she often found herself daydreaming of what life would be like in various different situations. She retreated into these daydreams to help distract herself from her everyday life, and they inspired her to take on a rather poetic, dreamy manner of speech. If the heroes in her daydreams could be grand and eloquent and whimsical, why couldn't she?

The repeated bad experiences after trying to help others started to make the young girl a much more jaded person, and she withdrew further and further into herself, until eventually she practically refused to talk to anybody but her mother. She instead focused on skills she could grow in what privacy she could find, mostly dancing. It was one of the things that let her feel free and not restricted by her blindness, and it became the most precious thing in the world to her.

After the Matori were freed from slavery, Natalil was left completely unsure of what to do with herself. She felt like she needed to stay in Matori as that's where her people where. However, she had grown so distant from them, she wasn't sure how to even begin repairing the relationship she had with others of her kind. As much as she wanted to stay near her mother, Natalil decided that she would begin to slowly start venturing out in the world. Her childhood had been filled with dreams of grand adventures, and she refused to let anything stop her from making those dreams come true. She still mostly stays close to her people, afraid to go much further from the area she knows, but she longs to go further.

Hey there! This is a standard Ely crit, which is mostly meant to encourage further exploration of a character's personality in relations to others. Expect general questions with no right answer, but more of a tool to understand more. If you have any questions, let me know!

In terms of her being a slave...was she a slave in Oba or was she located in Matori? How does she view the most recent war and the results of the discovery of the Yaeli? Do either of these major events impact her perception of the world?

You talk about her mother being super protective of her blindess, but how does she feel about it? Does she find ways to ignore it and not express it, is she ashamed of it or proud of everything she is able to do because of it? Is it something she wishes to protect, because her mother did the same?

How do you see her interacting with others? An aloof, cold person is sometimes hard to RP, so what types of situations do you see occurring with her as she works toward being more open and confident? And as she makes these companions, will she always be distrustful of those she meets, or will she latch on tight to those she finally can trust?

And a selfish side note: if your dancer ever wanders into Oba, let me know because I've got a dancer too who is hanging about in the Red Amaryllis and looking for RPs!

Hey there <3 Basically everything Ely asked for now and then I might have a couple of questions after they're answered.

And also:
What other family does she have besides her mother? Did she know her father? Does she have siblings? Are they still in Matori? Where is her mother now?

She was a slave in Matori. It's one of the main reasons she's still hesitant to leave, as she really doesn't know any other area besides that and she finds it a little scary to venture out further. She's kept her opinions on the Yaeli as neutral as possible as she has yet to meet any of them. As for the war, it's hard for her to say. While she's automatically less inclined to like those that make war and harm others, she understands that not all Alkidike are extremists and that there are some who fought with the Earthlings. So basically she's hesitant around them, but still willing to give them a chance.

As for her blindness, she isn't ashamed of it. She's proud of who she is and her blindness is a part of that. Because of her mother being so protective of her, she does recognize that it's something she needs to be careful with though. Tendaji is a dangerous place after all, and she's already not a fighter. She doesn't believe her blindness to be a weakness, but it does make her more cautious.

She is aloof, yes, but she has a great desire to try to start making friends again. She regrets pulling away and hiding herself away for so long, but she's done it for so long now, it's a hard habit to break. But she is willing to - very cautiously - reach out to people to try to make connections. I feel like the people she meets and rps with will probably all have very different experiences with her since she reacts to those around her. Those more friendly and open will find it easier to get her to speak more, but she'll be much more shy around them as she's not used to it. She'll find a better connection with those more closed off and quiet, but it'll be much harder to bring her out of her shell. It will take her a long time to trust someone, but once she does, she'll be as good as a friend as she can possibly be for them.

And she would totally love to meet another dancer, so that would be fabulous. biggrin

The only family she has is her mother. Her father died when she was young and she was an only child. Her mother is still alive and lives on the Market Isles as a merchant. They're very close to each other and her mother worries about her leaving Matori since she is so protective of her, but she understands her wanting to leave and explore a bit.

Typically those who lived in Matori weren't taken as slaves yet, but knew that they could be at any time. Those who worked as slaves were held in Oba where they could serve their masters and their properties. Can you go into a little more detail about what her life was like before the war ended? Like for instance, she was in Matori, did she know eventually she would be taken as a slave? Was she rounded up to become a slave but then the war ended? Did her mother try to keep her away from the Obans to try to prevent her from being sought out for trade? Or was she taken and actually lived in Oba for a period? We just need a little more clarification since you say she was born an Oban slave, but she lived in Matori.

(Besides that she looks great <3 I'm just interested in a little more info about her history)

No problem! That was a slight mistake on my part. She did live in Matori when she was young and her mother constantly tried to protect her from becoming a slave as she was really worried what would happen to her. She honestly didn't think she'd be taken because she was sure they wouldn't find her useful, but she was taken at a rather young age when her eyesight wasn't as bad. She remained there until she was free, and then immediately booked it back to Matori to be with her mother again. While she doesn't necessarily consider Matori her home because she was taken when she was fairly young, it feels more like home than Oba.

Hope that clarifies things!
