Moving was a pain. First there was packing, then saying goodbye to everyone she'd ever known, then the long drive in an overstuffed car, then unloading everything, and now unpacking and trying to figure out where everything would fit in their new apartment. After most of a day of lifting, sorting, unwrapping, and organizing, Alerana was thoroughly sick of it all. When she finally asked if she could go for a walk, just for a change of pace, her mom agreed (probably encouraged by the girl's increasing grouchiness).

As soon as she had permission, Rana grabbed her jacket and was out the door, moving as fast as she could just in case her mom decided to change her mind. Once outside she shrugged on her jacket and headed off in a random direction, strolling along and looking around to see what was in the area. The surroundings were mostly uninteresting until she spotted a swath of green in the distance. Whatever that was, it was different from buildings and streets, so she headed for it.

Once she'd gotten closer, she realized that it was some kind of park, with clusters of trees scattered around it. Some of them looked pretty tall, too. Rana smiled and picked up her pace. She bet that at least some of those trees would be good for climbing.

Sometimes, Hadaya really had to question his decision making skills.

Though he knew that his arms and legs were very short, and thus not well crafted for climbing, he still looked at this large, tall tree and thought. Yeah, I can definitely get up there. Now, sitting on one of the lowest branches and yet still feeling like he was a thousand miles in the air, the small, tubby kitty was regretting his bravado.

What was it that made him want to climb impossible things? What told him he was good at this kind of stuff?! Instincts were the worst, because all of his seemed to constantly be wrong.

Well, except one.

Ears perking forward even as he crouched down against the tree, he felt that familiar pull of a senshi just waiting to be awakened. That was, at least, a skill he could actually do! Mostly without problem! But he was trapped in a tree now, and was going to miss this chance.

"Noooooooo," he meowed hopelessly, pawing at the tree branch and looking down at the ground, but not daring to jump. It was at least six feet, which seemed like 30 to him. "Heeeeeelp!"

Rana jogged towards the park, pleased to note that many of the trees had branches that were spaced well for climbing. As she stepped into the shadow of the trees, looking around to try and pick out which tree she wanted to try first, she heard a voice calling out. She paused, trying to make it out what it said. Although the voice was somewhat muffled by the rustle of leaves in the wind, she was pretty sure the voice was calling for help.

"Hello?" she called out, looking around. "Someone there?" She didn't see anyone around, just trees and low plants. Wait, was the voice coming from up in one of the trees? She looked up and scanned the branches, but still didn't see anyone. Was she just too far away? Or was she completely off base?

For once in his life, luck seemed to be on his side!

Not only were his very pathetic cries for help heard, but they were answered by the one person he was so desperate not to lose track of! The senshi! The -future- senshi, he supposed, since he still had work to do first! What a great way to pay back a favor, though, if she got him out of the tree and he was able to awaken her?!

They would be friends FOREVER.

Eyes almost glowing with excitement, Hadaya pawed back and forth on the branch, which groaned and wobbled under his weight. A normal cat might have been able to sit in it without it noticing, but Hadaya was a bit larger than average. A lot, actually, but he was trying to be gentle with his own self consciousness.

"Up here, up hereeeeee!" he mewed eagerly, his voice coming out half cat like in his excitement. "Please, get me dooooooooown."

When the voice answered, Rana was able to get a better idea of where it was coming from. It sounded kind of odd though; kind of high, plaintive...maybe catlike?

She dismissed the thought as ridiculous as she headed towards the voice and scanned the trees. She still didn't see anyone...until the movement of a shaking branch caught her eye. She turned to look at it, but still didn't see a person, just a furry animal...That opened its mouth and pleaded for her to get it down.

Her eyes widened as she stared up at a cat that was apparently talking. Wait, no, that couldn't be right. There must be someone else around, someone who happened to be talking at the same time that the cat had opened its mouth. That would be either an elaborate prank or a total coincidence, but either way it made a lot more sense than a talking cat.

She turned away from the treed cat and started to circle around the tree it was in, thinking maybe the person was on the other side somewhere. "Where?" she called out, listening hard to try and pinpoint wherever the voice next came from.

It was okay to talk to a human that he knew was going to awaken as a senshi right?

Right.

He had a little trouble keeping his ability to speak a secret, at the best of times, and always had something to say. He could not help wanting to make friends! And also... he tended to be in some sort of trouble that required him getting attention and asking for help...

"Up here! In the tree! Hello! You were just looking at me!"

Hadaya was not unused to people finding it hard to believe he could talk, but he had a much more pressing issue at paw, and wanted to get down from the tree before having to explain himself. He whined helplessly, reaching his little paw toward her by crouching down against the branch and straining his short leg as far as it would go.

"Please! It's so high up here, and I can't jump! Please get me down!"

poke

The next time the voice spoke, there was no mistaking it was coming from above and behind her. Which put it right in the tree where the cat was. She sighed and circled back around the trunk, looking up to see if there was anyone else in here. By the time she got back to where the cat was, she had to admit that there was nobody else around.

She stared up at the cat, frowning, and couldn't help nothing he looked pretty pitiful, what with all the whining, fidgeting and reaching out for her. Whether or not the cat could actually talk, he clearly was stuck and needed help. One way or another, it wouldn't hurt to get him down.

She eyed the tree and noticed the lowest branch that could hold her weight was just about head height, and the cat was just a couple branches up. An easy climb then. She grabbed onto the branch, and in moments had swung herself up and was straddling it. From there she was just about eye level with the cat, who would be in arm's reach if she scooted out a little bit.

She gave the cat a long look before dubiously asking, "You...aren't going to scratch me or anything if I try and pick you up, are you?" She wasn't sure if she expected him to answer or not.

Sorry ;-----; work is the worst, and so am I

Hadaya watched her, then shook his head furiously and nearly knocked himself out of the tree with the effort. He dug his claws into the wood, distinctly going against the promise he was trying to make as far as not scratching her went, but he could not help his instincts.

He was a cowardly little guy, but not someone that would go out of his way to hurt anyone. Cuddles were better than scratches any day.

"I won't scratch you, I promise!"

She had managed to climb up with relative ease and he admired her skill, wishing he was so talented. The true test, of course, would come on the way down. He had managed to climb the tree, anyway. It was just getting back down that had tripped him up.

He skittered very carefully toward her, slinking across the branch toward her while desperately trying not to let any part of his body lose contact with it. He started purring immediately, just at the hope of being picked up, looking up at her with big, helpless eyes.

No worries! Life happens.

This time Rana was looking straight at the cat, while almost within arm's reach. There was no denying it any more; he was really, physically talking. Unless this really was an impossibly good prank, but that seemed very unlikely. She shook her head briskly and sighed. Right, try and accept it and move on.

The cat seemed rather unsteady as he scooted towards her. She helped out by scooting towards him as well until she ought to be able to reach him easily. "OK, try and hold still," she instructed as she reached out to pick him up. She'd try to lift him carefully, with one hand if possible, so she could use the other to hold on to another branch and keep from falling. If he was too heavy (she hadn't held a cat before and had no idea how much they weighed), she'd have to use both hands and be really, really careful.

Hadaya is sorry.

Hadaya cuddled against her and clung, without the use of his claws as best he could, to her while she lifted him up. He made it easy, and difficult, by scrambling toward her quickly and thumping his body against hers. Of course, he always forgot just how much he weighed, and tended to act like he was a little, light kitten that could do no harm.

When in reality, he was a very large cat who could easily throw off, say, someone's careful balance.

Because of his burst of fearful energy, he shifted their weight balance and knocked them both out of the tree. It was definitely not something he tried to do, and he let out a yowl as they fell, shutting his eyes and producing her senshi pen in fear, like he thought that was somehow going to help. Of course, he was gripping it in his mouth, and could not tell her how to awaken herself in the few short moments it took for them to fall from the tree to the ground.

At least it was not the farthest fall in the world...

ow

Clearly Rana had not expected the cat to suddenly ram into her, and in that short few moments after being hit, she flinched instead of grabbing for something to steady herself. By the time she realized she was falling, everything useful was out of reach, though she flailed and grabbed in the direction of the tree anyway. The bark scraped painfully against her legs as she toppled off the branch.

Thankfully, it was only about a five foot drop, and her mind barely had time to form a spike of terror before she smacked back-first into the ground. The wind was knocked out of her in a rush, and for a few stunned, painful seconds she couldn't breathe. She wanted to curse at the cat who could have filled her with that stunt, but once she could finally get breath in her lungs, she couldn't do anything but lay spread-eagle on the ground, gasp, and hope she didn't break anything.

worst awakening ever.

Hadaya found himself safely cushioned on his savior's stomach, bouncing and turning around in a complete circle as he tried to find her face, realizing he had been facing the right way from the start. His jumping and stomping on her was probably not helping her regain the breath she had clearly lost in the fall.

Or rather, the impact.

"I'm so sorry!" He mewed, ducking his head down and rubbing her face apologetically. Just in case his words weren't enough. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to... I'm sorry! I can help! Oh! I can repay you! To say thank you for saving me!"

He bounced off her stomach at last, giving a little push with his back feet to make sure he cleared her arm and didn't land his fat, fluffy butt right on it. Of course, that meant pushing down on her stomach again as he jumped away, which was not something he had considered. He turned, eager, and closed his eyes. The star on his forehead glowed bright for a moment as he created her henshin pen, at least confident that she would not be getting up or running away from the weird alien talking cat in a hurry.

She had just fallen out of a tree, after all.

He picked the pen up gently, padding up to her face and placing it gently on the bridge of her nose.

"This is for you! It's magic!"

Rana would agree.

The heavy cat prancing around on her stomach was really not making it any easier to breathe. His rubbing his furry head in her face didn't help either; it only got fur up her nose, which in turn made her sneeze, driving more air out of her lungs. What little she'd managed to regain was promptly squeezed out with a quiet "Off," when the cat jumped off her stomach. Then she was too busy trying to breath again to notice the glowing star on the cat.

For a few precious seconds he seemed to leave her alone, and she tried to ignore both his comment about repaying her and the pain in her back. Her focus was entirely on breathing.

She was almost starting to feel like she hadn't just had a bowling ball dropped on her when the cat came up and set something on her face. Whatever it was promptly flopped onto one of her eyes, so she had to shut them really quick to avoid possibly getting her eye poked out. She rolled her head to one side to let it drop to the ground, and opened here eyes in time to see it roll for a few inches before hitting the cat's feet.

She stared at the small object for a few seconds, then flatly said, "It's...a pen." A couple breaths later she added, "How's it supposed to be magic?" It certainly didn't look very magical, unless it was secretly a magic wand or something.

Hadaya was sitting there with the biggest smile a kitty could make on his face, looking at her hopefully and happily as the pen rolled his way. He nodded his head at her question, wobbling in his excitement.

"It's a henshin pen! And you're a sailor scout! If you want to know what that means, just hold that pen and say 'Sailor Aquila Make up! I can explain everything!"

He bent to pick the pen up again, nudging it closer and putting it down on the floor in front of her face this time. He then padded closer and rubbed her cheek before moved to her shoulder and giving her a nudge with his head. He could not really do much to help her up, but he was certainly trying.

It did not occur to him that she might actually be hurt, if only because she had absorbed the fall for him. Since he was not hurt, then she was probably okay too! Right?

Right.

The cat's explanation made no sense. What the heck was a "sailor scout" supposed to be? She'd hardly ever even ridden on a boat before. The idea of makeup didn't really appeal to her, either. But she was kind of curious anyway. With a groan, she pushed herself up into a sitting position. She spent a moment stretching her arms to make sure nothing was broken, then reached for the pen. She took a moment to look the thing over - it was kind of funny-looking - before finally following the cat's instruction and saying "Sailor Aquila, Make Up!"

Instantly a brisk wind sprang up out of nowhere and swirled around her. A moment later she found the pain had diminished and she could breathe more easily. She happily took a deep breath before noticing that her legs were suddenly colder. She glanced down at them to see why, then stopped and stared. Her pants, along with the rest of her clothes, had been replaced with an outfit she'd never seen before.

She stood up to get a better look at herself and examined the new frilly divided skirt, the impractical boots, the tightest top she'd ever worn, and the ridiculously large bow at her butt. After a few more dumbfounded moments, she turned back to the cay and said, "OK, what the heck is going on?"
