Hobbies:Karate - More specifically Shorin Ryu Karate. Charles has been practicing this style of karate basically since he could walk. He keeps in practice because of the expectation that he will one day take over the family dojo, even though that is not at all what he wants to do. Charles stresses the more self defense portion of the art, as he dislikes being aggressive.
Reading - More specifically Reading Historical Accounts and Philosophy Treaties. Charles chose his current double major just for the sheer love of history and philosophy he possesses. He will spend hours upon hours in his dorm pouring over the newest history non-fiction, or even reading translated first hand accounts. The same goes for philosophical texts as well.
Meditation - Charles spends a minimum of two hours meditating during the day. At least one after he wakes up, and at least one hour before he goes to sleep. He uses this time to calm himself and sort out his thoughts. In the morning he usually focuses on the day ahead, and at night he focuses on what happened during that day. If a problem really vexes him though, he will take a meditation break and try to calm himself down so he can go back at it with a clear head.
Virtues:Calm - Charles is very good at maintaining his composure under stress. He’s a fairly rational thinker, and doesn’t tend to rely on his emotions much, which helps him stay calm. That’s not to say he’s emotionless - far from it - he just tends to focus on the rational side of things. If something gets to be too frustrating or seems like he’s going to lose his cool, he’ll excuse himself and try to clear his head, meditate if he can, or just keep himself away from a situation until he calms down.
Passionate - Charles is very, very passionate about starting up new projects and working on things related to his majors. While less passionate about having the expectations of the ENTIRE Dojo on his shoulders, he is still passionate about martial arts - and maintains teaching both classes and his own practice besides. But he likes new things most of all, that’s what really gets his engine going.
Dedicated - When Charles decides a path, he will walk it until it’s conclusion. He’s very dedicated to what he does, and even if things get hard or it turns out it really wasn’t what he wanted to do, he will see it through to the end. Once he starts something, he will get it done, no matter the cost to him.
Flaws: Powderkeg - The one downside to Charles’ seemingly perpetual calm is that when he finally does lose his composure he loses it in a BIG way. These meltdowns are exceedingly rare, but volatile, and usually kept as private as possible. But a string of bad days, or overworking can set Charles’ off into a tirade the likes of which few have ever seen.
Overzealous - Charles sometimes doesn’t know when enough is enough. Sometimes he pushes himself too far in his passions, his dedication getting the best of him, and instead of resting and recovering, he pushes on and overworks himself. This is exceedingly bad around exam times, when he has been known to pull all nighters to the point of falling asleep standing up.
Overthinker - Sometimes Charles will ponder a situation too deeply. He’s prone to overthinking things, and in turn, turning them into bigger issues than they actually are. It’s something he’d been trying to deal with, but so far hasn’t had any real luck in curbing it.
