The trip had taken him some time and nervously Chris fingered the cartons of cigs in his pocket. It was one thing to know of the rumor, another to try and actively go find it.
But Chris needed something and well. Sunny was bound to be his best bet.
Aimlessly he meandered by the beach, staring out at the ocean. It reminded him of home, funnily, of Jejudo. But Jejudo didn't have an alternate version of the island and the thought was dropped quickly.

Sunny was returning to the beach after a walk, during which she had collected several pretty weeds and some driftwood. With her arms so full, she could barely see in front of her, and so it was that she completely missed seeing Chris approach her little section of public-access beach until she'd already dug out a pit and started a sizable driftwood fire. She looked up over the flickering, sparking green-blue flames and smiled at Chris. "Hi," she said. "What d'you want?"

Chris didn't mind waiting, watching Sunny build the fire. It was another familiar thing, every beach kid had done it, but it was slightly unnerving in Ashdown. He reciprocated her smile over the salty blaze, shuffling closer to the warmth before finally awkwardly sitting by it. He wasn't losing much getting dirty in these clothes.
"I heard for a pack of smokes and a favor you'll tell someone their future," A stupid statement, since of course everyone had heard that rumor. It was nothing new. "I was wondering if the same could get me a trip to the other place. Or a tip on the way to go to get there if not."
He pulled the pack out of his pocket, showing it to Sunny. Nothing special, but he wanted her to know he had the pack at least. Wasn't being a bluff.

Sunny eyeballed the pack of cigarettes, then held her hand out. "Just the cigs'll get you a trip to the other side. Are you sure you want to go?"

Just the cigs would do it? That was cheap, from what he heard, but he was willing to hand them over. He stood up to go hand them to her, then paused midway. There was a question bothering him, that he just considered.
"Are you the only way into the other place? Besides the freaky random times it happens," He asked, then realized he hadn't answered her original question. Rude Chris. "And yeah, I want to go. I want to find the rest of the kids or if I can't, just visit Heliodora."
He didn't want to admit he might fail, but his last interaction with the weird place had told him to expect nothing to go right. At least he was trying though, a step in the right direction.

Sunny shrugged. "You'll learn how to come and go yourself one day," she said. "Anyway, you shouldn't look by yourself. Dangerous."

He'd learn how to do it himself one day? That was interesting... did Autumn know how to do it? He'd ask her once he was back, when he had free time to talk to her. Hopefully it'd be today, or tomorrow, given that she was off from work. He wanted to see her cat again too, but that was an ulterior motive he'd keep to himself. He liked Autumn for more than Rosalinde, even if Rosalinde's ability to sprout flowers was really cool.
But that was another time and grudgingly Chris stood up and dusted the sand off his pants. "I'll be okay, I'll stay away from anything too crazy. Or I'll just go visit Heliodora if it makes you happy," He replied, offering the cigarettes to Sunny. It was weird, being lectured by essentially what looked to be a teenager (was she a teenager? was she even in school?) but what she didn't know wouldn't kill her. It wasn't like she was going to follow him around the other place was she? She had other stuff to do probably.

Sunny shrugged. "None of it makes me happy," she said, and her manner was world-weary, shoulders slumping as she tucked the cigarettes away. "Just be careful, okay?" She held up a hand and sliced it down, through the air. A shimmering nothingness filled the space through which her hand had passed, and it yawned open until Chris could see the other side: dark, cold, raining.

She sounded so.. tired and Chris' mouth turned into a tight line. That wasn't really the way anyone should sound. "I'll try. I promise." He replied quietly, watching her. It was.. weird seeing this happen but he'd come to peace with the weirdness of it long ago.
It opened and he could see the other side and he moved towards it, then paused for a second and turned towards Sunny. "Thank you," He murmured, "Stay safe yourself, alright?"
Then Chris simply walked through into other Ashdown.
