Rory's favorite type of volunteer work involved animals, which was why she could constantly be found in the shelters whenever they'd let her. Unfortunately, due to her available hours and school, she only got two weekday nights and Saturdays. Unless they were running adoption events, which she always got in on.
The girl was very persuasive when she wanted to be and dammit, they couldn't keep her from the cute kittens and adorable dogs.
Today's volunteer work involved bathing some of the dogs and while her first four or five baths had been spectacular, the dog she was attempting to bathe was being difficult.
It didn't help that the burly Shepard-lab mix weighed more than she did, or that it was, technically, bigger than her. At five feet and three inches, the turquoise haired girl didn't have much mass.
Eventually, she got tired of chasing the dog down and attempting to wrangle him into place so she could clean him. Huffing a sigh and blowing loose strands of hair out of her face, she stuck her head out of the washroom. "Hey, I need some help with Astrid. I can't get him to sit still and he keeps knocking me over."enoh love I hope this works, if not lemme know!

"Oh, the beast is next, is he?" Came a female voice from the next room, head popping into the hallway as well. The brunette smiled pleasantly, if not very sympathetically. Rory's fellow volunteer looked thoughtful for a moment, before giving an oh of decision. "I'll get Sue, just give me a minute!" She disappeared down the hallway then, heading towards the section designated for their feline wards.
As promised, Sue had been found, and the situation explained. He grumbled his agreement to help, and heaved a small sigh as he had to put a rather affectionate calico back in her cage. The helpful volunteer had gotten called away only moments later, leaving him with directions for the wash room on the other side of the building.
He found it easily enough, and stood in the doorway - and, being a large man himself, seemed to take up a good deal of it - to assess the situation. Namely - the much smaller girl, and the large dog-beast. Slightly narrowed eyes looked between the two, now comparing them both.
"They let you do this alone?"

Exasperated as she was with Astrid's inability to sit still and be bathed, Rory was immensely grateful that the volunteer knew exactly what she was talking about and that she'd agreed to fetch help quickly. While she waited, she leaned against the wall with her arms folded over her chest glaring at the dog that had flopped on it's belly, tongue lolling out the side and tail wagging vigorously.
"Oh, now you stay still," she huffed looking at him skeptically. "Of course I know you're gonna get up and want to play the second I walk towards you. You can't fool me. I'm on to you."
That might've been something Sue heard, but he certainly walked into her giving the dog I got my eye on you fingers that rivaled Chief Bei Fong from Legend of Korra. Once he stepped inside and spoke she immediately dropped both arms and peeled off the wall in a startled manner.
"Yeah well, I'm usually efficient but Astrid," she glared at the dog who just tilted his head in a too innocent manner, "is being a butt. So. Are we gonna continue about how I'm practically a dwarf while you're a giant or are you gonna help me get the dog washed so I can move on and play with some cats?"
