Saerun did not quiet understand the purpose of seeing Kirket.

This wasn't her idea, and she wasn't even really sure if her parents had thought of it, either. But somewhere along the line, the imp/demon hybrid had approached her asking if she'd have a chat with him at some point. Naturally, she'd agreed, thinking maybe she'd done something wrong – but no. He really did just want to talk.

The trouble was, he wanted to talk about how other people were treating her. She was part way touched, part way annoyed. Would he have checked in with other kids if they weren't... mutated? She didn't really know the standard procedure for this, but either way, she was sort of feeling a bit patronized.

About half way through the session she stopped responding, instead just staring at the ground with her cup of cocoa in her hands, feet lightly kicking in tandem... Kirket hadn't quite caught the hint that she was done, though.

Kirket was a very busy man, very busy, but he did his best to catch potential problems before they became real problems. Saerun's self-image was showing all the signs of becoming a Major Problem if intervention wasn't started. He really should have spoken with her parents first, he realized that moments after she'd sat down and referenced them, but what was done was done and here he was... Trying to coax the closed off little geist into talking.

He wasn't a stranger to difficult children – well, children that didn't want to talk about what was bothering them. Though it was a little more difficult than usual considering that Saerun communicated primarily in sign language. He understood it just fine, it was just a matter of gauging whether or not she was listening, or if she'd tuned him out altogether. So far it seemed to be the latter. She'd shut down halfway through the session and wasn't really showing any signs of changing... He'd definitely need to contact her parents after all.

”Saerun, another reason I wanted to talk to you was to see if you had any plans for what you'd like to do? You know, as you get older.” He tilted his head to one side, eyes studying her body language closely. That question was entirely different from anything else he'd asked- if she were listening, she'd have to show some sort of reaction...

Oh, she had been, she'd simply perfected the art of looking like she wasn't. It was a skill she'd needed in the orphanage, since it seemed many of the others had taken up the fun hobby of poking fun at her face. Ugh. She blinked at the sudden change of topic, though, momentarily thrown off pace. Her future? He wanted to talk about that?
Truth be told she hadn't thought about it at all. Why would she? Wait...

A sudden flood of emotion rose up from within her, threatening to take over – choking – no, no no, she couldn't cry in this office. Why hadn't she realized this before? No, she had, on some level, but had been pushing it back – ignoring it, refusing to acknowledge that...

She'd never really thought she'd make it far enough to need a plan.

Despite her best efforts, her eyes welled up a little. She reached up to rub a sleeved hand over her eyes... why was this happening now? He was going to tell her parents.. they were going to be so disappointed... It was illogical, but oh it was the only thought on her mind.

Was... she crying? Oh dear. That wasn't part of the plan. Perhaps the problem that was forming was already a problem and he'd just... stumbled upon it. Kirket set his cup of tea aside, and then folded his hands in his lap. ”Saerun, it's okay to cry. Can we talk about what's upsetting you? If I did something I would like to know so that I don't hurt your feelings again in the future.” He spoke softly, carefully, but with the intention of letting her know that he sincerely did not want to cause her pain.

Then again, sometimes the healing process was painful... He'd cross that bridge when he got to it, he supposed. For now, just getting her to talk was important.

Of course he just had to point it out. She set her cup aside to cover her face with her hands, feeling her small body shake with the effort to keep everything contained. Why, why did he have to bring that topic up? She'd been doing so well not thinking about it- not wondering what she'd do- thinking 'oh, that's nice' when the people she did talk to shared their own aspirations.

He wanted to know if he'd done something. She knew he hadn't really- he'd been doing the standard Grown-Up thing and was asking her how she was-- but she couldn't help but blame him for this feeling. ”I don't want to talk about it.” She finally croaked. She rubbed at her eyes a little more, then breathed in deeply – there, it was under control. She could go back to not thinking about it now... right?

And just like that, she'd bottled it up again. He frowned a little to himself, but nodded at her words. ”Alright, we won't talk about it right now.” He nodded, purposely choosing to use the words 'right now', since there very well was a chance he'd be seeing her again to talk about this topic in the future.

He glanced up at the clock and noting the time, sighed softly. ”Well, it seems our time is up. Thank you for coming to talk with me, Saerun. You know you can come here to talk any time, right?” He stood, watching her as he did so.

Thank the Nine, it was over. She slid off of her chair, nodding as he continued to speak. Didn't he ever just.... stop? Ever? She knew she was being unreasonably grumpy, but she really just wanted to get out of there. He hadn't quite opened the door yet, though, so she hesitated... was he going to make her ask him to? Or should she just... leave?

He seemed to sense her discomfort and finally reached over to open the door, saying something about maybe talking again in the future... she didn't care – she was already on her way outside. No. She didn't want to talk again. She didn't want to ever think about this again.

He'd probably call her parents as soon as she was out of sight – but she'd deal with that later. For now she just wanted to find somewhere to sit and be alone.

Kirket watched as she disappeared down the hall, frown steadily forming on his features. Eventually he closed the door, then shuffled over to his desk to sit down. Normally he didn't like to dig into the students' files too much, preferring to get to know them as they saw themselves first... but it was clear something was going on there that needed more background knowledge.

He sifted through the limited knowledge the school had on her- then decided it was time to contact the parents. Ultimately it would be up to them if they wanted to enroll her in therapy, or handle it themselves...

Once she found a spot to sit down, Saerun curled herself into as small a ball as she possibly could, mind racing. What would he tell them? She hadn't really given much indication of what was wrong, but therapists were supposed to be able to figure that stuff out, right? She supposed he could always just tell them that she misbehaved and refused to talk to him... would they think badly of her? No, no... probably not... Yue and Draven were very nice people...

She would have to talk to them herself... but she'd want to be alone for that. With so many siblings that was going to be a near impossible task.. would it even be worth asking? She rubbed at her head, slowly trying to sort through her thoughts. One thing was clear, she'd have to confront this feeling eventually. She'd have to talk about the reality of living without really thinking she'd make it to adulthood.
