His cold and midterms had both passed and Chris was finally, finally free from anything eating up his time. He even had a little time off work (forced upon him by his Adviser who had vaguely mumbled something about "taking a minute to sleep, jesus you look like hell") and so dutifully he had found a nice bottle of wine from the supermarket, pulled on a pair of jeans and a comfortable sweater, and decided it was finally time to watch some movies with Autumn and have a drink or five.

(He had tucked some Vodka in his bag too, just in case.)

Pulling his door shut with a little more force than necessary, he dug his phone out of his pocket and shot a text to Autumn.

Ummm r u kidding me??? YAS IT IS!!! Ready to cry ur a** off?! emotion_bigheart

Autumn was ready. Autumn was beyond ready. After learning magic and meeting Pax again, she needed a bit of normal time to herself. Just... doing stupid s**t, watching movies. Wine always helped. She'd gone ahead and bought some hella good snacks for their little get together, maybe slapped on a bit more makeup than usual, and was busy puttering about until Chris's arrival. This... was gonna be fun. And seriously, she needed this.

Moonstone Dazzle
cry my a** off?? what movies did you pick???

He grinned as he pocketed his phone anyways, speeding up his walk. He had a vague idea where Autumn lived, and it didn't take him long to get to her apartment building. The better question though was, where exactly was her apartment.

Moonstone Dazzle
remind me which apartment you live in?? kind of wandering around down here.

U ever seen The Thing? Get ready to hate ur life wink

At the second text message she sprung up from the sofa and out the door, looking over the edge of the balcony. Spotting Chris, she waved excitedly.

"Hey, come on up here! I hope you're not allergic to flowers or cats!"

Chris smirked down at his phone, poised to type out a reply. The thing was going to be nothing compared to what he'd see in the past and- wait, was that Autumn yelling?

He glanced up, spotting her immediately. "No, I don't think!" He yelled back, "I'll be up in a second!!"

It was easy then to find his way up and in a few seconds he was at her door, hestitating before knocking. That was polite right? She had found him anyways.

When the door was knocked on, Autumn threw it open and hugged Chris. It was so, so good to see him, outside of Other Ashdown. Much as she loved Pax, this was going to be a much-needed night of relaxation. Scary movies, good company, alcohol. Pulling back, Autumn smiled brightly at her friend.

"Come on in, please! Just don't sit on the flowers," She gestured to Rosalinde's spot on the sofa, overgrown with a variety of plants. Rosalinde looked up and meowed in greeting, then once more closed her eyes.

"What've you been up to, Chris?"

Autumn's hug surprised Chris but he returned it with enthusiasm, glad to see her again. It was good to know she still liked him and was still willing to touch him outside of freaky circumstances that involved other places that were the inverse of the town.

Tonight was not the night to think about that though and he pushed it out of his mind, following Autumn into her apartment. It was cozy, if small, and it looked nice and Chris smiled at her cat until he noticed the flowers were.. growing out of the couch?

He blinked hard, trying to see if it was just pots with the plants in them or something but no those were plants just sitting there under the cat, presumably out of the cushion. "Just.. midterms and getting over my cold," He said faintly, still looking at the flowers. He finally tore his gaze away from her cat, settling it on Autumn.

"Don't call me crazy, but do you have flowers growing out of your couch under your cat or are they just some really well hidden pots?"

Rosalinde, for her part, seemed smug- more smug than a typical cat had any right to be, anyway. She blinked again, long and slow to Chris. This one- she liked this one. He was not the man with the fake arm, but he smelled well enough. And he had been to her home. Her tail flicked gently and she meowed in greeting again. He would not ignore her this time, the new human.

"Rosalinde says hi," Autumn supplied, thankful for welcome human contact. She liked pax, she did! A lot, really. But Chris was her buddy. An odd man out in a world she wasn't ready for. He was her Horror Movie Minority Buddy.

At the question of the flowers, Autumn laughed.

"So uh. While you were getting over colds and midterms, this magical crap took an enormous dump on my life. Now I have a cat that grows flowers. And I can talk to animals." She didn't see any point in beating around the bush or pretending things weren't the way they were. The more Autumn dealt with it, the easier it was to accept.

"Haven't you noticed anything weird? Kind of... Feelings, or s**t that shouldn't be happening actually happening?"

Rosalinde, he now had a name for the cat, meowed at him again and Chris replied, with much amusement, "Hello." He moved over to the couch, offering her his hand like one would much a dog. He hadn't owned any pets growing up, a hassle when your family could move any time, but he'd become accustomed to the neighborhood cats and many of them had preferred to smell Chris' hand before he pet them. And man, oh man, did he want to pet Rosalinde, weird flowers and all.

Or, as Autumn put it suddenly, weird flowers that the cat herself grew.

He glanced between the cat and Autumn for a second, eyebrows raising. "She.. grows the flowers herself? And you can talk to her? Jeeze Autumn, you really aren't kidding about all the magic." Well, at least he knew Rosalinde was actually saying hello.

He considered that thought for a second. Was he taking this way too well? Maybe it was just because he was willing to accept literally anything after Pax. Rolling with the flow and all, his life now an actual video game.

"Anything weird? Hm. Well, besides the fact I'm being forced to take off work sometimes, not really. Sorry Autumn, I'll let you know if anything happens though," He paused for a second, "Has anything happened to you along those lines? Besides you know. Everything you just described to me in the past minute."

A second then, "Okay but Rosalinde actually grows the flowers?!"

Okay so he wasn't handling it all perfectly well.

Rosalinde was rather pleased that the human knew his place. Proffering his hand to her, what a gentleman! But poor dear, he still didn't seem to understand this magic business. Rosalinde stood up, with an idle stretch, and sauntered over to where Chris was waiting. She brushed up against his hand and purred, sprouting roses along the sleeve of his shirt. This one. She was also very fond of this one. Her lady clearly had good taste in suitors.

'Keep both of them!' Rosalinde turned to Autumn and meowed. Autumn rolled her eyes, and went to flop unceremoniously on the sofa.

"I mean, not really? I hung out with Pax. Learned how to make potions and s**t. Had a mental breakdown. But otherwise... nope, pretty good!"

There were roses. There were roses now decorating the sleeve of one of his favorite sweaters, just grown there like well. Like magic. He stared suspiciously down at Rosalinde, she obviously knew what he was asking, but finally gave in and went to pet her. He couldn't stay mad at her for long, she was adorable and also really, really nice to pet.

After a minute of petting, Chris sat near Autumn on the floor, unwilling to sit on the flowers on the couch.

"You hung out with Pax?" He took a moment to consider. "Well, actually considering that you became BFFs with Pax, that doesn't surprise me. It still kinda... freaks me out though. I dunno."

He shrugged for a second, then leaned against a bit of couch that wasn't touching Autumn. "Sorry bout the breakdown, maybe I can help you if you have another one. Although I don't suggest it. Potions though, that's cool. I was taught a lot of herbalism and stuff when I was younger."

"Pax is actually super nice. Kind of silly, in their own way," Autumn laughed, thinking back to the little 'bonk' of their horns on her doorway. As curious as she was about the Other Ashdown going-ons, Pax seemed equally curious about the human world. Autumn was definitely going to make them a human care package, next time she got in touch with Pax. Put some candy and s**t in it.

"I just... got thrown a lot, you know? It's kind of hard for me," She admitted, looking a bit upset with herself. "I don't... reach out for help. I never have. And I still don't really know how to, even when I'm having an emotional crisis."

Autumn sighed.

"I'd appreciate you being around, yeah. And maybe... I dunno, we can work on potions and s**t together?"

"If you say so," He said with a small laugh, fussing with a loose thread off his sweater. "Maybe I need to spend more time with Pax, or something. I just.. remember what almost happened though and it kind of.."

Chris trailed off with a shrug, still fussing with the thread. There was a pause, considering, and then tentatively he put a hand on her ankle. "I think that at least you acknowledging you don't reach is a step in the right direction," He started, giving her a small smile. "You won't change immediately, but you know at least, and so you can start to try and change. And I'll be here if you want me too. I'll also try to check up on you, if I can."

"Potions sounds great, you know my mom has this little garden back behind the house? It has some stuff in it, although then again you have Rosalinde so, maybe it's not needed," He laughed a little, trailing his fingers over the roses in his sweater. "Oh, I also have vodka. Not in the garden I mean, but with me right now. I feel like you might need it a little."

"I think you'd like Pax, if you got to know them. They were afraid, like we were. They're really close to Heliodora? And just got scared." She was kind of defensive of Pax, if only because Pax was her first contact with Other Ashdown. As weird as it all was... Pax was her friend. Gave her comfort in a brave new world.

"It's really hard. I'm good- at helping people. Giving, and giving, and giving. But when people try to give back... I shut down. And freak out," Autumn admitted, glancing at the hand on her ankle. Still, she found herself smiling. Chris was a great guy and a great friend.

"Reaching out will definitely help. I might need the status checks," She admitted, rubbing the back of her head.

She was going to comment on the garden, and Rosalinde's flowers, but then he brought up vodka. Autumn shot upwards on the sofa, and made a gimme gesture in his direction.

"s**t, you brought the good stuff. Let's get this party STARTED."

"Well... I trust you. And You trust Pax, so I'll try." He wanted to go see Heliodora, so maybe he'd try to talk to Pax again, get to know them. Like he said, he trusted Autumn and if Autumn was okay with Pax, then maybe it was Chris who was just being weird.

Or Autumn was just a literal disney princess and this would come to bite him back hard. He really, really hoped it wasn't that though.

"I can get that, yeah," Chris replied, absentmindedly rubbing a circle with his thumb as he thought. "Maybe you can start with.. little things? Like accepting help occasionally? I don't know, you'll figure it out."

He grinned, looking up, "I'll be around a bit more then. See what you're up to, maybe help."

"Okay, okay," He laughed, pulling his bag off and digging around in it to find the bottle of vodka. "Should we really be watching horror movies while drunk?"
