Like he told himself two weeks ago, Kor was going ring shopping. He pushed a hand through his bangs (a common practice when he was nervous or unsure) and stared at all the rings in the glass case. He didn’t have a lot of cash to spend on a fancy ring, but for Laine? He’d take out a loan in order to get her something good.
Of course, the looks he got, dreadlocked, pierced, inked up, and in clothes that weren’t exactly fashion forward, made him cringe a bit. The lady behind the counter was obviously hesitant to approach him and his green eyes glanced up at her and tried to coax her closer with a soft look. Honestly, he didn’t know why people were so hesitant with the way he looked. He was just like them, okay, only he expressed himself a lot more freely than they did.
When the lady finally came closer, Kor pointed out a few rings he thought would be with in his price range. Small stones, but super pretty and elegant.
Of course he was worried about buying a ring for a metalworker. He didn’t want her to point out the flaws in the way the ring was made or anything like that. Not that she’d done that before, but he was just nervous. He’d never been engaged.
He thought about asking someone once. ...Before his life went to hell when they left and Kor spiraled into depression with a mixture of hard drugs, alcohol, and anonymous sex because he didn’t care about his own life. After he’d been arrested a few times and released back into the world only to realize his group of friends, his gang, actually hated him… Well, there was a time he spent trying to drown himself in a lake in the middle of winter. Time in a ward of a hospital because his depression had been so deep he was a continuous harm to himself. That was detox time. That was not a fun time at all. Detox didn’t help his suicidal thoughts back then in the slightest bit.
However, since he moved to Destiny City, obtained his tattoo permit, opened his own parlor, and met Laine..? His life had gotten a million times better. He’d slipped off the wagon a total of once when it came to drugs and he would never forgive himself for it.
Laine had helped him with everything that happened afterwards. She’d stayed with him through the worst of it.
That’s honestly how Kor knew he was madly in love with her and wanted her there in his life forever, as lame as it sounded.
He clicked his tongue as he looked over this one ring. It was silver with a diamond in the center, and slivers of diamonds cut in rectangles on either side of the band. Simple, understated, and he happened to know silver matched her really well. Biting down on his lip Kor held this ring in his hand, twisting it this way and that as he pondered.
Honestly it was at the very, very maximum of his price range. As he leaned forward in thought, his dreads slipped off his shoulders and hit the glass case and he yelped when he was scolded for it. Jesus Christ people, his dreads were not going to break glass.
Rolling his eyes, Kor made up his mind and bought that ring. It was packed in a black velvet box and nestled within a bed of red satin. After paying what he called an obscene amount, he pocketed the box and walked out of the jewelry store with a grin on his face. He was going to get himself a wife.
Never mind he didn’t think to buy the wedding rings. He’d earn more cash for that over their engagement.
