Prometheus was terribly homesick. Homesickness was a constant background feeling to his everyday life, but this day in particular was especially bad. The revenant that Ustule had given him had alleviated some of the feeling, but the more he spent time with it, the more he wished he could go home. He'd decided to move on, yes, to acknowledge that this place was going to have to become home now, but it was much easier said than done after all. Perhaps he needed to actually speak about it with someone...

Kirket was a nice man, but he wouldn't understand. At least, Prometheus did not think he would. Besides, Kirket wasn't from Boreas, he wouldn't understand the intricacies of what it was that Prometheus wanted to talk about. In fact, he probably couldn't talk to Kirket about it. Outside of Boreas, such things were taboo, after all.

The only from-Boreas adult he knew of was the math teacher, Judas. They had spoken only in classes, though, so he wasn't sure if the teacher would be willing to lend an ear... Still, it was better than nothing. Once everyone else had filed out of the room, Prometheus slid off of his chair and approached the desk.

”Excuse me... could I perheps speak with you?”

Judas was indeed from Boreas. He had only left to attend university, and since then had found that he preferred staying south as it was closer to where he'd be doing most of his work anyway. The teaching jobs had not really been what he had planned to do, but he'd once been told that life had its own plan for everyone... Not that he believed it, “life” wasn't some sentient all-powerful being that controlled everything – and even if it was, surely it couldn't control literally everything at once.

Either way, he'd been teaching at the Academy for some time, and had soon found that over time, almost every Borean student had approached him to speak about home. Well, their home. Judas considered himself to not particularly have a singular home. Prometheus had caught his eye on the first day the freshling had entered his class. He was smart, well spoken, always did his work.... but never spoke to anyone outside of his small circle of friends. It reminded him of himself, to an extent, so when the freshling finally approached his desk to talk, he could only infer that it would be about homesickness.

”Of course Prometheus. How may I assist you?” He turned his gaze to the freshling before him, noting that his body language indicated uneasiness. It was a slight change in most people, even more slight in pure litches, but he knew the signs...

The first week Prometheus had been in Judas's class, he had been incredibly unnerved by the teacher's stare. It seemed like he was staring into his very soul on most occasions, the intensity of it had caused him to look away on more than one occasion... But after a while he soon learned that that was just how Judas was. He didn't seem to mean anything by it, anyway. So when the older litch finally looked at him, he tried not to flinch too much. Up close it was a little more... intimidating.

”Thank you. I was hoping I could speak with you ebout...” He trailed off, mind blanking. What had he come here to talk about? How was he going to bring this up? He was old enough to not have such strong attachments, why had he even bothered with this in the first place..? This was ridiculous. His parents would probably be shaking their heads if they knew. ”I...” He started again, eyes slowly sliding off to the side.

No, he couldn't do this. He would have to figure it out on his own. ”I was perheps wondering if there were other things I could practice before the next exam? I em feeling like I hev the current problems down.” He straightened his gaze to Judas again.

Ah, there it was, the beginning of the conversation he'd been waiting for-- bu at the last moment Prometheus backed out of it. Judas blinked, head tilting slowly to one side as he listened to the new request. Harder work? It was true Prometheus had the current topic down, he supposed that he could give him something more difficult to work with... But the sudden change of topic was not what he had expected, which left him sitting silent for a moment before he finally nodded.

”Yes, I can give you different projects to work on.” He finally answered, then opened a drawer in his desk to look for a workbook... There, this would do. He pulled it out, and then held it out for Prometheus to take. Judas was not particularly talented with conversation, he didn't pick up on most subtleties and he wasn't very good at following up on hints from others... but he supposed as a teacher he should make an effort here. Prometheus was being watched, and as far as he knew, this was the first time he had even so much as attempted to reach out to an adult.

”Are you returning to Boreas for summer break?” He finally asked, tone as flat and emotionless as usual. He could make this into something about school work...

He bought it. At once he felt relief and disappointment. He hadn't really thought that Judas would be able to read his mind, but at the same time even if he couldn't bring himself to actually start the conversation he wished the teacher had read his mind. Or something. He watched as the litch pulled out a workbook for him, something for a grade above his current one, and then held it out for him to take. He reached for it, hand closing around its edge as the next question came out.

'Are you returning to Boreas for summer break?'

Some part of him knew that Judas knew he was a transfer student, though he wondered how much he knew if he knew there was a place to return to over the break. Just how much about their students were teachers allowed to know? He found himself frowning as he tucked the book under one arm.

”I have not decided yet.” Well, it hadn't been decided for him yet. His parents had not yet responded to his inquiries on the matter, in fact they hadn't responded to his letters at all since Solstice.

He blinked, picking up on a slight sound of disappointment in his tone... Was the choice not his? Judas found himself pondering his next response a little longer than he'd intended – Prometheus was unexpectedly difficult to talk to on a personal level... perhaps this was why none of the others had really tried to connect too much. ”I see. If you do not, there will be many things that you can participate here if you desire.” He nodded, then began straightening the papers on his desk.

”But should you decide to return, I can also supply you with things if you wish to advance further over break. What area of Boreas are you from?” He spared a glance over again, just to see if he could catch any expression changes...

Ah.. he was offering to give him homework to take with him? He supposed that logically it would give him a good head start into the next year, but did he really want to take it? Then again, he didn't even know if he was actually leaving. ”I would like thet.” He nodded, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Now Judas was prying – was it because he really didn't know, or was he attempting to get something out of him? Had the litch actually read his mind after all...? Suddenly he really did not want to talk about this anymore.

”Eet ees a small village, eh... Snowgrave ees eet's name. I would not expect most people to know ebout eet.” He shook his head, though he paused when the teacher seemed to know exactly where he was talking about... Or, well, the slightly widened eyes seemed to indicate it. He felt a shiver run through him- Judas's gaze was intimidating on a regular bases – the wider eyes made it downright terrifying.

Snowgrave.

He was from that village? The one that had just been targeted from the outside for suspected harboring of illegal necromancers? Perhaps the boy didn't know – they tended to keep that information away from the students if possible, especially the native Boreans as it might upset them greatly... Judging from Prometheus's speech, he had no idea... Judas found himself questioning when he had arrived – just after the initial investigation. He'd been sent away for his own safety...

”I do not know if it is truly your choice to return or not, but I do not advise returning.” He found himself speaking before really thinking about what he was saying – something that was incredibly unusual for him. ”There have been numerous reports of attacks in the area, it would not be save to travel.” He trailed off, decidedly not mentioning that it was undead that seemed to be the problem in the area... Though if the accusations were true, Prometheus might already know what the issue was even if he didn't know they were being investigated.

Attacks in the area. He didn't advise returning... He hadn't received a letter in months. It was like someone had poured a bucket of ice water over his very core. What did it mean? What sort of attacks-- he stopped that train of thought. He needed to get out of here. Now.

”I see. I will keep that in mind.” He nodded, curtly, then adjusted his bag over his shoulder. ”I should get to my next class. Thank you for your time.” He nodded again, then turned and shuffled his way out without giving Judas much of a chance to respond.

He'd been avoiding looking at news about anything Boreas related for months. He needed to find out what exactly was going on, now.

Ah, he hadn't known at all. ”It is no trouble, Prometheus.” He watched as the boy excused himself and hurried out into the hallway. Hopefully he had not caused more trouble... Perhaps he should speak to Kirket about it. The hybrid was a talented therapist but Judas found himself wondering if he would be able to handle this situation...?

It would be better than contacting Ava about it, anyway. Not that the headmistress could do much about it other than bar Prometheus from returning, but that might involve taking custody of the boy – which would end poorly... No, he'd speak to Kirket about it. Either way, things were probably going to get a little more difficult for Prometheus before they were going to get better...
