Things weren't normal in his territory lately.
Maybe it was because he didn't feel normal. He didn't feel… useful like this. Yes, he had a job to do, but … no one even remembered who he was. No one remembered who he was protecting, what he was protecting…
Quail's Eye knew he shouldn't be so petty, but he wanted someone to remember him. Every night he prayed to be something more.
Sure, he would rather flee than fight… But he had no real powers for fighting.
Ultimately he had absolutely no place in this war. He fought for neither side. He tended to side with the Order, but at the end of the day he wasn't on either side. Being in a morally gray area actually sat really wrong with him. He had this power, some kind of power…
Ugh, he missed the other Eye's.
He emerged in his territory. The grass was beautiful and green, the sky was beyond a normal shade of blue. Light, white, fluffy clouds dotted the sky as the sun kissed the flowers that were always in full bloom. Everything looked normal, but there was a feeling in the air that seemed off putting. Hesitant, in a way.
Brown boots moved through the grass, crunching lightly under his feet. He was making his way to a lake in the center of the field where the children could swim if they wished to. He stepped over rocks and jumping over the worst of the uneven ground. As he walked, his eyes got a glint off something shiny off to his right.
He blinked those honey colored eyes, his head tilting one way and the other before he moved over toward it. Interesting… What was it? Did one of the kids drop something last time they were here? By the time he got to it, Quail was full of a child like curiosity and he grinned slightly as he reached down to pick it up. But what he found…
“A henshin pen?” He tilted his head to the side, more confused than anything else. It… seemed to have his colors, but no distinguishing markings. “Interesting,” he whispered, looking it over. It had a weight on it that made it seem very real, very solid, but … “Why is it here?”
One of the kids he had here recently must have been a senshi. Surely they didn't misplace it this badly. His brows knit and Quail slipped the henshin pen into the front of his uniform for safe keeping right now. Damn, which one was it? He clicked his tongue a little, trying to think. Oh, it'd do him no good, but how else was he going to track down the owner of a henshin pen? It's not like you could just ask 'oh hey, did you drop something?' to every kid he'd brought. There had been a lot back in his time.
“Well.. Maybe they'll come to me..”
With that, the man shrugged and just took off into the sky again.
It got him out of his head as far as the war went. ...Maybe he really was a bird, being attracted to shiny objects.
