In order to keep Tianxia fun and provide lots of things to do, we have come up with a bunch of fun games to do in the pride! The games in this thread can be used in order to gain points, which can be used to change ranks or sometimes even in exchange of prizes.

For more information on games in general, and instruction on how to play the games, read on!

Overall Rules

Though each game has its own set of rules, there are rules and concepts common to them. Here they are!

Points
Points are what you earn when you win a game, and they can be used to gain advantages in some events, but mostly they are used to go up ranks! There are five kinds of points:
Wildcard, Combat, Speed, Artistic and Intelligence. You may notice we will never ask for Wildcard points. Wildcard points automatically become whatever you need them for!

When your SoA wins a game, you may post in this thread using the form at the bottom of this post to let us know, linking us to the RP, and the type of point correspondent to the game played will be added to your SoA's tally! As for when your SoA loses a game, he or she will gain "half a point". That means that if your SoA loses two games of the same type, you can also use the form and gain a point by linking both losses.

The exception to this rule is the Prompt Game. When you play out a prompt, all of the participants in the RP may redeem it for two points! But they will each have to post redeeming the points for themselves.

One you redeem your first post for a SoA, your SoA will gain a Point Tally. Point Tallies are logged in a post towards the bottom of this thread. We will let you know by quoting you in this thread when your SoA's point has been added! Once you use points to change ranks, the points will be crossed out of your SoA's tally.

You may redeem more than one point at once! Just remember to link all your wins/losses, we will check to make sure they add up!

Stats
Because Tianxia is a pride with many varying ranks, not to mention that allows other species to join, we decided to adapt a stat system to balance things out a bit for a few games. Right now stats may depend on rank or species.

You may notice that there aren't any stats for hybrids! If you have a hybrid, you get to pick which base stat your SoA will have, depending on what kind of hybrid it is. For example, a cheeton can pick either the stats of a lion, or the stats of a cheetah, and so on for other hybrids. You cannot change this afterwards, so choose wisely! If you choose a species base for one kind of game, you will automatically pick that species base for any other games where the species interferes with the stats. Because hybrids are special, you need to post here picking what base stats you're using before you play a game that uses stats.

In the future, there may be the option to upgrade stats!

Good Sportsmanship
Okay, so this is more OOC than anything. But it affects IC too! Please, be a good sport, both when you are winning and when you are losing! Even if your SoA is winning by a lot, try not to humiliate your opponent with the content of your post. And if you are losing, don't get upset or try to make your opponent feel bad about it. If someone makes a mistake, point it out nicely, don't start a fight over it. It'd be a huge bummer if the games brought out drama and hurt feelings, so please keep it friendly!

The Prompt Game is really rather simple. In this post, you will find RP prompts, each are numbered. The prompts are added and removed sporadically, and there is no limit to how many different ones you may answer. But you can only answer one once per user, not per SoA.

How the game works is, you get a prompt, and answer it in an RP! It can be done either on your own or with a friend, but the RP response to the prompt must be 10 posts and 1000 words long, or in the case of an SRP, just 1000 words long.

Each prompt will propose some sort of situation or idea for your characters to live out or discuss in an RP. You are probably familiar with the idea, from RP contests and whatnot. Only this time you answer with a full-blown RP!

Now, points. Most of the time, the Prompt Game will award 2 Wildcard points for each character in the RP. But sometimes, a special prompt may come around and award 3 points of a different type (Combat, Speed, Creativity and Intelligence) when filled out! As for redeeming points, the same rule applies as to any other game; each person must redeem their points on their own.

Prompts may have some rules attached to them. Some have character limitations, like how many characters can participate in the RP, others may have a House or Rank requirement.

The prompts in this post are added and removed sporadically, like we mentioned earlier in this post. We will keep dates on when we add and remove prompts, removed prompts will be saved in the 2nd page of this thread. We understand RPs may take long, and so long as the RP was started while the prompt was still up, it will count! even if it finished after it was removed. To help us keep track of things, in Prompt Game responses, please put the prompt in the first post of the RP.

And with that all of the way, here are the prompts!

Prompt #1

House: Any House
Characters: No limit, up to two, etc etc.
Added: day it was added

Prompt #2

Hunting Game

Awards: Wildcard Points

User Image

This game consists in a challenge, to who catches the most prey in the allotted time. However, the RP, or the game-part of the RP, actually takes place after all the hunting has been done! This is because hunting challenges usually span over a few days.

Below is a run-down of how to play the game. Whatever precedes the actual start of the game, the rolling, is entirely up to the players! If you wish to RP normally for a while, then move onto the game, or just go straight to the game, is up to you.

The game can be played either in teams or one-on-one.

First Roll
The characters arrive and, after greetings and whatever they may decide is important to get through, they declare how much prey they caught. This is determined by a roll, while the roll depends on how long was agreed on for the challenge. The amount of days is entirely up to the players.

Roll 1-5 if a one-on-one.
If in teams of two, roll 2-7, if teams of three and above, roll 4-10. The result is how many prey animals the teams caught!

Following Rolls
These following rolls determine what kind of prey the SoA caught. One roll per post, with the amount of rolls determined by the number obtained in the first roll (amount of prey caught). Filler posts might be necessary if one team rolls many more than the other.

What this part actually consists of is a presentation of, well... heads. Or other significant body parts. It would be strange to transport a whole lot of bodies, especially when considering decomposition. So the teams will present to each other a piece of each kill, typically the head. It needs to look fresh! As for what happened to the rest of the body, waste not! It was probably eaten by the hunter, and whomever he or she is responsible for feeding.

Roll 1-5
If a 1: Small game, 1 point.
If a 2, 3 or 4: Medium game, 2 points.
If a 5: Large game, 3 points.

(Small game is prey with weighing less than 20kg. Medium game has a weight between 20kg and 90kg, while large game is anything weighing above 90k.)

Finish
After all catches are presented, players add up the amount of points they earned. Whoever has the most points is the winner!

Duel

Awards: Combat Points

User Image

Members will, on occasion, formally challenge each other for duels. Usually they will agree on a location, and a judge, along with a few base rules like no using claws, or no aiming for the eyes, that sort of thing. The duel only actually needs two lions, and though they often have a judge, the judge can be an 'assumed', off-screen one.

The duel system in Tianxia is HP-based, with each species and rank varying accordingly. Lions, for example, start with 30HP, unless they are of a particular rank that would raise it.

Alright, so how does dueling work?

Once the characters want to start the duel, they begin rolling. With each post, roll 2 12-sided dice. The first roll determines if the attack was a hit, a miss or a critical, while the second roll corresponds to damage dealt. Hits, misses or critical hits are identified by counters. There are three counters, the miss counters, the hit counters and the critical hit counters. Counters are simply randomly selected numbers. Below is an example of stats, the lion-base stats.

Lions
HP: 30
Hit: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 11
Miss: 1, 7 and 10
Critical Hit: 4, 9 and 12

So that means if a lion rolls a 1, for example, he missed his opponent, while if he rolls a 3, he landed a critical hit, and a 4 would mean a critical hit.

And how about that second dice? The second dice means damage! Damage done is dependent on the first roll as well. Below are the three situations:

First roll is a miss counter – The damage is 0, as the attack missed.
First roll is a hit counter – If the second roll is 10 or more, subtract four from the damage counter. Otherwise, whatever was rolled. (No minimum damage, maximum damage of 9)
First roll is a critical hit counter – If the second roll is 4 or below, damage is automatically 4. If the roll is 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, add 4 to whatever was rolled. If the roll is 10, 11 or 12, add three to whatever was rolled. (Minimum damage is four, maximum damage is 15)

So, summing it up, roll 2 12-sided dice, the first number rolled determines a hit, miss or critical hit, while the second one determines damage deal to the opponent. This process continues in every post, until someone runs out of HP!

What happens when your SoA runs out of HP? You lose. You can decide whether or not your SoA fainted, was just doing so badly he or she clearly lost, got injured and could no longer fight, or gave up to avoid further beating. Entirely up to you, aside form the fact that your SoA lost and their opponent was declared the winner. Once a SoA runs out of HP, rolling ends, though you are welcome to keep on RPing.

For the big stats list, see the next post! Each species has its own stats, as well as a few ranks!

Duel Stats

The stats for species are decided taking into account the anatomy/build of each species, and how they usually fare naturally. This means that there are some giant disparities, but it isn't made with the intention to put anyone down, just to be a bit more realistic. Cheetahs, for example, are very weak combatants. Counters were chosen arbitrarily.

Lions
HP: 30
Hit: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 11
Miss: 1, 7 and 10
Critical Hit: 4, 9 and 12

Hyenas
HP: 25
Hit: 1, 6, 10 and 12
Miss: 2, 5, 8 and 9
Critical Hit: 3, 4, 7 and 11

Wild dogs
HP: 20
Hit: 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12
Miss: 4 and 7
Critical Hit: 2, 5 and 9

Leopards
HP: 25
Hit: 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11
Miss: 1 and 4
Critical Hit: 5, 9 and 12

Cheetahs
HP: 15
Hit: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12
Miss: 3 and 6
Critical Hit: 8 and 11

Rank bonuses only add HP, they do not change the counters.
Guards get +2 HP
Soldiers get +4 HP
Captains get +5 HP
Majors get +7 HP
Royal Guards get +8 HP
Lt. Colonels get +9 HP
Brigadiers get +10 HP

A few characters get a special bonus, on account of RP, continued victory, or rank. If your SoA is eligible for special bonuses, we will notify you! If you think your SoA deserves a special bonus, you may post and tell us why, but do not be upset if we disagree. Currently, these are the SoA with bonuses:
Ahali'bagawa/Wei Gang gets +15 HP and a +2 damage added to non-misses
Moto'vianzio/Sheng Kou gets +15 HP and a +2 damage added to non-misses
Hashamal/Xun Lin gets +12 HP

Hybrids who take part in games will be listed below, specifying what stat base they are using!

Racing

Awards: Speed Points

User Image

Racing is rather straightforward. SoA will challenge each other to see who is fastest! For most part these races rely on speed, they are typically short not endurance marathons. That said, there is no set distance in a race. This is because of their spontaneous nature; SoA can really just point at a tree and say it’s the finish line.

So how does it work?
At some point in an RP, an be in the first posts or later on, the SoA will have decided to race. Once they pick a starting point and a finish line, they’re free to start it up and go!

As for the actual game mechanics, whatever the actual distance the racers are running, it is divided up into 20 lengths. In each post after the start of the race, alternating like in any other RP, racers will randomize a number according to the specifications below. Whatever they roll is how many lengths they covered in the post! Once the SoA’s rolls have totaled 20 lengths, he or she has reached the finish line and is the winner!

So as to not give anyone an advantage for rolling first, if the SoA who started rolling reaches the finish line first, the other SoA may still toss a dice. If they also finish the race, the winner is whomever rolled the highest total. So if the first person to roll beat the race, finishing at 21 lengths, the second person to roll can still win by rolling and totaling 22 lengths. Here is an example of the situation.

Now, the specifications. Below you’ll find what you should roll for, based solely on a SoA’s species and the top speeds associated with these species. Cheetahs, for example, have a very clear advantage over… well, everyone.
Cheetahs: Roll 3-7
Hyenas: Roll 1-3
Lions: Roll 1-4
Leopards: Roll 1-4
Wild Dogs: Roll 1-4
So yes, as it so happens, lions, leopards and wild dogs all run at roughly the same speed, hyenas are just a bit slower and cheetah are a lot faster. This is taking into consideration only top running speeds, because races in this system are usually very short, so long distance running won’t come into effect.

Bonuses
Activity in the pride and in races may earn your SoA a bonus! Alternatively, plot can also earn a SoA a handicap. Below are special SoA with bonuses or handicaps!

Art-off

Awards: Creativity Points

User Image

This game is definitely most popular with artisans of some sort, but really anyone can play and compete for fun.

ICly, the premise is that the SoA participating in the game went on a little 'tour' through the pride, displaying their art. Performers, bards and storytellers, for example, would have performed for a crowd, while painters and crafters would have presented their artwork and tried to trade. The RP itself takes place after they return home, with the artists in question (yes, they can work in teams!) talking about how well they did. To prevent blatant lying, we work under the assumption that both teams were present during performances/presentations on the tour.

There is to be one performance/presentation in each House of the pride, including the Center House. In each House the artists presented a different work, to explain major differences in crowd response.

Now, scoring!

This is another dice-based game! In this game, you are rolling for popularity or crowd-response. So to play, for five posts you will roll 1 10-sided dice, alternating off and on, with each roll corresponding to how well your SoA's art was received in each House. The order of presentations goes: Center, North, South, West and East.

The game is won in sets. Each House performance or presentation would be a set. So whomever did better in the North House, for example, wins one set, and so on throughout all the Houses. It is best out of five, so whomever wins the most sets wins the Art-off!

In the event of a tie, thanks to humorous dice, the result is quite simply a tie. Participants from both teams may redeem their point.

There are no species bonuses, and few rank bonuses, which is why this game doesn't get a stats post. The only rank bonuses are in relation to the popularity. Bonuses are applied to the crowd response roll.

Non-artist ranks (this means hunters, guards, etc.) get a -2 on whatever they roll. If they only roll a 2 or a 1, the roll is automatically 1.
Artist ranks (artisan, bard, storyteller, etc.) don't have any bonus of handicap.
Popular artist ranks (popular bard, popular storyteller, popular painter, etc.) get a +2 on whatever they roll.
Famous artist ranks (famous bard, famous storyteller, famous painter, etc.) get a +4 on whatever they roll.
