Aleksy draped himself into a bar stool and fixed Borr with a black-eyed stare. The old man was reassuringly normal-looking today, which was not a compliment that Aleksy would be sharing out loud, but it was a compliment nonetheless. He leaned on the counter, because where there were counters he was going to lean, it was a fact of life like gravity or inertia. And then he said, "Borr. My boyfriend is the living personification of s**t." Because that was a good way to start a conversation.

" Men," Borr shook his head with a small quirk of the lips under his voluminous facial hair, "Can't live with em and it's frowned upon to hit em with a shovel.." Or so Darlene used to say. The bartender, moved a few feet down and leaned to pull out Aleksy's preferred poison. He then pulled out a shot glass and waggled it at the young man before he set it down and poured a shot. The bottle would remain on the counter. "What'd he do?" Now. What'd he do now?. And Finn seemed like such a nice boy.

"He makes this deal about how we must be monogamous," said Aleksy, taking the shot glass by the rim between his fingers, "How he doesn't wish to share, and then he cheats on me with my twin sister. Piece of s**t piece of. ********." He gestured irritably as if to suggest that his stupid boyfriend was stupid beyond measure. It was a communicative gesture, involving a knife-handed palm and an irritated expression. "If I had a shovel to hit him with, I would do it, and everyone may frown regardless! I'm already surrounded by police."

Borr leaned against the bar with one hand and made a slight hiss thought his teeth, "That's-" Finn always seemed so nice, "-pretty shitty." The shovel hitting confirmation made the big man smile, but he was more curious than anything, "And why exactly are you surrounded by cops?" He really didn't think Aleksy did anything but hey- you never know.

"******** Mercer goes missing and everyone thinks, oh, Spektor, he doesn't like cops, he probably did something--idiots--I like Mercer." Aleksy would deny it if called upon it, though, and he was turning a little red as he remembered Jeremiah's words, always an ornery young man. He tapped his fingers against the countertop, agitated, before finally taking his first shot. He put his shot glass down, but didn't let go of it. Aleksy shook his head. "******** hate cops. And a*****e men."

Borr just smiled a bit at the rare admittance of Aleksy's. He, of course, would never call him on it. But he knew that Jeremiah was a good man and that Aleksy was just a bit too aggressive and agitated sometimes. It gained him a reputation. "You have to grow a beard," Borr suggested and dragged his hand along his own, "When you're in the scruffy stages you'll get more trouble. But once you get to a certain point people seem to think you're wise." He winked and then laughed that overly loud booming laugh of his.

"People think you're wise because you act like it," grumped Aleksy, but he was grinning to himself. "Anyway all that still grows in patchy." It was only a year ago that his voice had started cracking as it deepened. Think of him as a teenage guy in the hell throes of puberty and a person would be pretty close to what all was going on there. "Advice for my future," he said, surrendering the shot glass to Borr. He sighed, the mention of his future bringing him back to Finn and Finn's feelings for his sister. It made sense that Finn would prefer Tate to Aleksy; loving Tate would be simple, while loving Aleksy was like choosing to be in the exclusive company of a giant ball of neuroses pretending to be a person. "I should break up with him," he said.

Borr poured another shot, "You have to do whatever makes you happy. If he makes you happy, then you have to make up your mind... what your conditions are." The bartender had been married many years, and though the ability to just tell his wife 'Yes Dear' and mean it was a valuable skill, honesty was always essential. "If he can't make you happy- than you move on to find the person- or people- who can."

"Of course he makes me happy, except when he decides to get his hat measurement from his a*****e." Aleksy mumbled something unprintable and rather creative in Russian beneath his breath as he picked up his second shot. "It was supposed to be fun. ******** wasn't anymore, though. Now Aleksy was pretty sure his heart was involved. "Stop being sensible, I am trying to whine," he said, sighing. "I knew he loved Tate when I agreed to be exclusive with him, I don't know why I'm upset..."

"Sorry sorry." Borr chuckled and lifted his palms, "Whine away." Borr waited for the shot to be downed before he moved again. "Because you agreed to be exclusive.. and perhaps you don't want to play second fiddle? Or maybe just because it's your sister." It was different when it was a stranger, but not someone so personally close. Not someone it was easier to compare yourself to.

"It must be very easy, to love Tate," said Aleksy to his shot glass. "As she is not here. But I... I do not appreciate being held to standards another will not bestir themselves to meet. I am... I am worthy of respect, in that way."

"Anyone is easy to love from a distance. Flaws have a tendency to blur from far away.. And things are very desirable when they aren't yours." Borr did look sympathetic. He felt for Aleksy because he truly believed the young man deserved uncomplicated happiness- with how complicated everything else in life was. "You are worthy of respect." The older man confirmed, "Have you told him that? In a relationship you are allowed to demand it you know."

"I have," he said. Aleksy nodded firmly. "I heard you saw the psycho witch," he said, swapping topics now that someone had affirmed that Finn was being an idiot and Aleksy would be totally in his right to dump him. (Did Borr say that? Well. Aleksy heard it, anyway.) He wasn't going to dump Finn, but he was going to go yell at him some more. Maybe yell at his sister, too. Tate and Finn as a married couple with fifty children might be a ******** foregone conclusion, but damn if Aleksy was going to let his sister own his boyfriend's heart from St. Petersburg. "Though no one but me thinks she's a psychopath," he sighed.

(He totally said it. DUMP HIS a**. I heard it.) "Psycho witch?" Borr blinked before he was called for a refill at the end of the bar and by the time he returned he seemed to figure it out, "Ah- Sunny?" The bar owner shrugged a big shoulder, "She's- something. But she's a member of our community and she was friends with Darlene." Borr didn't know much of the weirdness in the town besides what a lifetime here would teach him. Mostly it taught him not to mess with certain things, accept others how they were, and take all the strangeness with a grain of salt. He also didn't bother questioning anything- questions clearly led to trouble. "She seemed genuinely upset when she found out Darlene was gone and not coming back. It was nice of her to care, even if it was several years delayed."

"She cares about many things that you'd not expect," said Aleksy. "But she's still insane." Anybody who hung out on the beach and smoked those disgusting black cigarettes of hers would have to be, in Aleksy's much-studied opinion. "You're lucky you don't have to deal with her regularly."
