With his memory of the past week missing, Jeremiah had taken off from work. The detective, if ever, took off from work. There was PTO and sick leave and vacation time that had just piled up. Until he got a handle on the fact he was missing memories he would be on leave. It worked out anyway, they thought he had come back too soon after the entire stint of being lost in the forest and not eating and ... Whatever. Time off equated to talking with Algie, sorting out what to do next, where they needed to focus their attention. Not at this moment, however. At this moment, Jeremiah was dressed in layers, and out in the front of his house. Most would have assumed that the detective paid someone to tend to his yard and the garden of flowers that lined it. They would be wrong. He was kneeling on the ground, hands in the soil. His hands were delicately pulling up one of the blossoming flowers by the roots, gently loosening it so that he could transplant it to another place in the yard that would be better for it to grow.

The day had finally arrived. Bundling up the last kitten, Autumn had put the little thing in her basket and headed out, ready to be rid of the last of them. Bergamot seemed sad to lose his last sibling, but Rosalinde was there for him, nursing the upset kitten in his time of need. This one... well, to put it bluntly, was the fuzzy little runt. If not for Bergamot's personality, Autumn seriously would've considered keeping this little guy too.
But then... a cop with a runt? Seriously? It was WAY too cute to pass up on. Autumn pet the mewling kitten, and hurried with a spring in her step to the address she'd been given. Initially, she knocked on the door, and waited. Jeremiah SAID he'd be home, but...
She turned at the sound of something she couldn't recognize, and oh! There he was, gardening in the front yard. Stepping lightly to not crush any flowers or anything, Autumn navigated the yard to get to Jeremiah.
"Hey, chief! It's delivery day! You ready to meet your new kitten face-to-face?"

Jeremiah did not usually get visitors, not unexpected, and when he heard the sound of footsteps on his pathway and then knocking ... He was in the last step of transplanting the flower to it's new spot. Admittedly, he was surprised to see Autumn - really surprised - but he kept it to a minimum because he had seen the kitten pictures on his phone and some of the texts and ... The detective was patting his hands against the soil, making sure it was loosely packed, before he was pushing himself up. He just barely managed to keep the groan to himself (his back was cold but did not hurt badly, thankfully) and waved a hand towards the young woman and her basket. "Autumn, hullo." Just a slight twitch upwards of his lips. "Let's go inside and you can show me this ball of fluff I've been getting pictures of." ... and Jeremiah could tell her a thing or two. He was beside her in moments then gesturing her to the front door. Letting her inside his house there was an entry way with a table for keys and other things, and shoes by the door, and then a door immediately to the right that lead to the living room area. With a rather large piano along with all the furniture.

There was, perhaps, the slightest look of shock on Jeremiah's face, but it didn't really click for Autumn. She was simply content to be branching out to the people of Ashdown, and getting a perfect little kitty a new home. Her hand reacted before her brain did, waving happily when the detective greeted her.
Following him inside, Autumn took her shoes off and set them in the hallway. When he headed for another room she took after him, and gasped when they entered the living room.
"Damn! These are some swanky digs," Autumn whistled, looking around at all the furniture and everything. It was nicer than her old home in Chicago, and much nicer than her apartment. She moved in a bit more to the center of the room before she set the basket down, and turned back to Jeremiah.
"I brought Rosalinde so your little guy would be at ease, I hope you don't mind. She's not gonna tear s**t up or anything, though you may find a few flowers here or there." Crouching down, Autumn pulled the blanket off the basket- and was immediately greeted by Rosalinde bounding out of the basket, son in her mouth by the scruff of his neck.
"....And uh. I guess she wants to be the one to give her baby away," Autumn laughed, shaking her head at her cat.
Really. Flowering cats and magical worlds. Who'dve thunk it?

"I've been here since I was around your age and I got the house when I was thirty-two." Jeremiah had gotten tired of having an apartment and the noise of other people. There was a second floor, stairs that had been visible in the hallway, but that was where Zac's bedroom had been. When she set the basket down, he was crouching a short distance away to watch. His back was doing a bit better with the addition of Algie's soothing hands. He raised blue-green eyes to Autumn's face, watching as Rosalinde hopped out of the basket with the ... That was a tiny, tiny kitten and it looked adorably fussy at being carted around by his mother that way. "I ..." he glanced up. "I am going to be honest with you, Autumn." Never not honest this man. "I actually do not remember meeting you. I lost about a week's worth of memories because of something that happened and that includes meeting with you." His eyes glanced back down to Rosalinde and the kitten. So damn cute. "... but Rosalinde," he had seen the name in texts, "is a very gorgeous cat and that kitten is adorable." Yes, he actually said adorable.

Rather than look world-endingly shocked, Autumn simply looked sad at the revelation. She walked over to Jeremiah, and set a hand on his shoulder sympathetically. It could've been misreading the man, but he certainly didn't seem the type to appreciate unsolicited hugs. Besides that... well, as scary as a week was, it wasn't the worst thing in the world? Thankfully he hadn't lost all of his memory. That, truly, would've been a tragedy.
"Is... there anything to be done for it?" Autumn hedged, pulling her hand back and letting it fall to her side. She thought for a moment, and tentatively asked.
"...And do you want me to tell you what we talked about? I mean. If it's not upsetting, or anything?" She rubbed the back of her neck absently. Autumn was still kind of new to this whole... magic culture. And talking to people, outside of her makeup-family, insta-family, and family-family.
Rosalinde trotted up and plopped the kitten (gently, of course) before the new parent of her baby, blinking slowly. It seemed, unlike Autumn, she was not particularly concerned with the state of Jeremiah's memory.

Jeremiah's lips twitched upward into a small wry smile when Autumn came over and touched his shoulder. He might have shrugged it off as early as a couple weeks ago but now ... Now the man was trying to make a change and gave the young woman a small appreciative nod. "I've no idea honestly." If there was anything for it. "You can tell me what we talked about, though I can probably guess it was about what happened." The detective was chuckling then when Rosalinde just plopped the kitten in front of him. He was shifting then, instead of kneeling sitting indian-style. Fingers wriggled out and he watched as one amazingly blue eye tracked the movement before trying to go after it. Tiny and frisky. Cute. "I also don't honestly know that you'll run into the same kind of things I do but I'd advise you to be careful of other ashdown travel on your own." Jeremiah glanced back up towards Autumn. "There are other things in there besides Heliodora, Pax, and Smol." Something evil, something - - he was getting a niggling sensation and he looked down at the kitten to see him trying to n** at his finger. "Sneaky little thing," he chuckled and instead of letting him n** the finger, he was scooping him up into his hand - he fit into his hand - to bring the small ball of white fluff up closer to look at. On the top of his head there was the beginning of what looked like blossoms, almost like a mohawk. "... so how full of flowers is your house now?"

Having offered her comfort, Autumn went to sit by the basket and Rosalinde, petting the older cat with a contented smile. How best to summarize what they'd discussed that day...? She gave it a moment's thought, then realized.
"You basically gave me the whole You're a Wizard Harry speech. Magic is subtle, you offered up your heart, and offered to keep me in the loop if anything relevant to my life crops up in your research. I made the same offer, and we traded numbers. I gave you tea and a cat."
Autumn paused, then frowned suddenly. It was, perhaps, the angriest she had looked in Jeremiah's presence.
"I swear to ******** if you drank all the expensive-a** tea I gave you and then ******** forgot it, I am never forgiving you. Holy s**t, that's the worst ******** waste of tea. Why am I so damn nice all the time," she sighed dramatically, raising a hand to her forehead in a melodramatic fashion.
...Actually, on the subject of the Otherworld, there were some things she had questions about. And while it might not've been the most sensitive time to ask Jeremiah, they were here, and he had a kitten. It was a good of time as ever.
"I was actually hoping to ask you... can you license people to carry a gun? I don't mean like, crazy a** automatic s**t. Just a little purse handgun for my own damn safety, and so I don't shoot my foot off. I've gotten back to kickboxing, and I can throw a mean punch, but I don't know how well punching Other s**t is gonna go. You know?" She pursed her lips.
"What's gonna be my best course of action to keep myself safe?" Autumn stopped, and laughed.
"My tiny-a** apartment, which is like, the size of this room, is only flowers. It's a damn good thing I'm not allergic. The neighbors have some concerns about how many flowers are everywhere."

The look on Autumn's face made Jeremiah laugh, something amused and warm and definitely she had not heard before but probably a thing he could do more often. It made his face relax a little out of the neutral expression into something more open. "Is that where that tea came from? I had a cup this morning before I started work in the garden. Still have some left." Just the slightest twitch upwards of his lips in a small smile. "It is excellent." Then because was thinking about it. "Actually, since that was from you, I've got a blend that I had imported from across the pond you might like." It was stupidly expensive but exquisite. "I'll bag some of it up." His fingers were already smoothing down the soft fur of the kitten's back, Jeremiah's lips twitching again when the kitten tried to butt his head towards the his face. Not missing a beat, he set the kitten onto his shoulder. There was some wobbling, his fingers keeping the kitten steady, before it was rubbing along the edge of his jaw. Stubble was the best!"Might be a business opportunity waiting to happen? You may want to talk to Aleksy about all those flowers." Jeremiah made a note to point Autumn that direction but first ... "I can help you with the process, Autumn. It would require you passing a gun safety course and then fill out some forms. I could even teach you myself." Jeremiah was a marksman, one of the best shots at the department. "However ... a gun may fire, it may damage something there, but I do not know that it'll be enough when you can be frozen in place or surrounded by cold fire. I don't think it will help you with other ashdown, not as much as learning to understand magic." He took a deep breath, fingers rubbing across the fur of the kitten who was very much invested in trying to be all up in Jeremiah's face. "Magic is real there, I've used it, and likely the best course of action for protecting yourself. "

"Phew. Thank god you didn't chug it all," Autumn sighed in relief, thanking god her wonderful tea hadn't all gone to waste. At the offer of more tea in exchange, she smiled brightly and nodded.
"I wouldn't object to that at all," Autumn offered out pleasantly, happy to find a fellow tea connoisseur in this crazy world of magic. Maybe they could start up some crazy tea-trading program, getting the best of each other's tastes in tea. Hell, they could probably loop Eve into it, too. Make a whole little tea club, maybe even throw a couple of parties.
She listened thoughtfully as he explained more on the details of magic- just beyond the happenstances which occurred here in the real world. Actual, tangible magic. s**t, she was gonna have to get a wand or something like that. Drumming her fingers on her thigh, Autumn furrowed her brow. So if magic was real...
"Do I get to learn it, then? Or rather- can you teach me that, if a gun's not gun-na work?"
She beamed.
"Get it? GUN-NA WORK? Ah? Ahhh???"

"I never chug good tea." That was partially a lie now, if only because of his back and the perpetual chill, but the tea that Autumn had given was just not something he would drink large quantities of. It was to be savored. Blue-green eyes rolled. They rolled so hard. "That is a terrible pun," he snorted, pushing himself up to stand and finding that the kitten went with him easily. So small and just able to be right there. "... and a little bit funny," he added a moment later. Jeremiah rubbed his fingers together, looking down at them. He was remembering the smoldering fliers. "I can teach you what I know, what I understand about it." It likely would not be the same experience for her, not like he had. Not Sunny lifting him up, not that sky that was old and new at the same time ... Still thinking about Sunny made his headache, never mind the feeling in the pit of his stomach. "It is really about your own will there." Jeremiah tilted his head to look at her. "We can set something up." To go to other ashdown and show her there.

"Well. I'll give you some time with your new friend-" Autumn hesitated, and then added.
"-who needs a flower name. It's a thing. They're all gonna be sweet, precious flowers." She loved flowers, she did. They were great. And it was ******** funny, since they all grew flowers. Part of her sense of humor and all of that.
"Text me, and we'll work something out?" Autumn offered a smile, and stood back up, collecting her basket. Rosalinde, taking the cue, turned and gave her little princess one last look for the time being, offering him a slow blink and a chirp farewell. She gracefully leapt onto Autumn's shoulders, draping herself around the human's neck.
"And uh. Try not to lose your memory again, aight?" With that, she gave a wave, and headed off, second kitten delivered.
Now, at least, she had the promise of excellent tea in her future.
