Perhaps it was an odd thing to want, but Autumn really wanted to see Pax again. She'd posted the picture, told people about The Peaceful One... but she'd made no effort to find her friend again. And that wasn't very fair, was it? It wasn't as if Pax could just pop over here for scones and tea.
So Autumn was going to Pax.
She'd spoken aloud on her intent to go to Other Ashdown, and oh, there was Rosalinde along for the ride. Rather than follow after passively, the cat had skittered down the stairs, and Autumn was once more pressed to follow after her. Down the street, around the corner, Autumn ducked under a fence, and--
Boom. There they were, in the Otherworld.
...So maybe Rosalinde could just kinda find her way here? That was pretty neat. Autumn clicked her tongue at her cat, offering her a place to sit in her oversized purse. Rosalinde obliged, hopping into the bag and making a nest for herself. Mental note, Autumn was probably going to have to trim flowers out of this bag before she went out again.
She was prepared this time. No high heels, no uncomfortable clothing. Autumn had dug out a pair of combat boots and leggings- not necessarily fashionable, but damn if she couldn't book it out of there if need be. It wasn't Pax she distrusted, it was... everything else.
Wringing the strap of her purse, Autumn approached the woods where they had initially made contact with Pax. Rosalinde purred contentedly from her perch in-bag as Autumn looked around, before calling.
"Pax? Pax, are you here?"

I am here, Kindly One. Pax emerged from the woods, its many legs rising from the long sunset shadows of trees. You have a guest? It nosed into Autumn's bag, and drew back suddenly with its own version of a gasp--its many eyes flashed open wide, spinning about its head like a halo for a moment--but then there was a feeling of a smile, like a prey animal relaxing. Hello, rosy one. It has been some time You've found your way home I am happy for you

Autumn turned as Pax emerged from the trees, her smile turning to a full-on grin. How wonderfully convenient! She waved as her friend approached, watching in amusement as Pax stuck its nose into her purse. Rosalinde blinked slowly, and raised her head to view Pax more clearly.
This was... too ******** cute to handle. Autumn bit her lip to keep herself from squealing like an idiot, because A, Pax was too adorable, and B, they knew each other.
"Her and her kittens, too! I didn't know you knew each other," she giggled, reaching a hand out to pet Pax fondly.
"Do all of you, uh. Animals? Peeeeepanimals? I'm not sure what you prefer, but. The point is! Do you all know each other?"
Rosalinde gave a prrrp of delight, clearly at ease around the other.

We are not people nor are we animals Pax stretched out its neck for more pets, its eyes carefully avoiding Autumn's hand. We are simply other other things Like that one, the smoky one, we are kin but we are not kind. Pax leaned down to give Rosalinde a little boop on the head with its snout. I have been wanting to see you, kindly one I have questions

She nodded as Pax explained they weren't people, or animals, but... other. Curious, but fascinating. Maybe she could find information on this elsewhere? People wrote about like... faeries, and monsters, and s**t. Maybe that really did have a basis in reality, somehow.
Autumn watched Rosalinde and Pax boop noses, and jeez, if only she'd been ready with her camera for that picture. She was gonna get cavities, watching this exchange. It was almost enough to distract her... but then.
"Questions? For me?" Autumn blinked, surprised. "I can't say I'll have all the right answers for you, but I'm more than happy to try!"

Pax nodded, an air of solemnity pervading its posture now. It directed all six eyes towards Autumn's face and shuffled its little hooves through the grass for a long moment. You know the human world where there is no magic? but have you seen others of your kind do things that are strange Are there others who appear to be strange

She thought for a moment, brow furrowed.
"I mean. I've noticed stuff about myself lately? I can kinda... feel where Rosalinde and her kittens are, if I focus really hard on it. And Zac mentioned some stuff too? Also Rabbit..." Autumn was mostly thinking aloud here, trying to put it all together. They were all people she'd been with, here in the Otherworld.
"I think... maybe all of us who can come here can do stuff? And Sunny. But that's Jeremiah's field, not mine. I haven't even met her."
Rosalinde hopped from the bag and walked a quick loop around Pax. Contented, she sat next to it, leaning against it to purr gently.
"Sorry if that's not good enough. I don't really know too many people here."

Watch, Pax said, and it seemed to... collapse in on itself, its body pulling together, becoming smaller, thinner, more... human? When it stopped changing, what sat on the ground next to Rosalinde was a young feminine person with big green eyes and a killer set of antlers. Its hands were already around Rosalinde, hauling her into its lap. "I learned... this," said Pax. Its voice--now that it had one--was a sweet, mellow sound, like a late-night jazz DJ on the radio. "...But is it... good enough? I have never... seen the human world... and perhaps I would like to... if you were there?" It smiled, hopefully, and the painted-on seeming eyes blinked up at Autumn.

For a moment, Autumn was completely silently. She stared at Pax contemplatively, mouth slightly agape as she just... stared. A pin could drop, and it would be audible in the choking silence around the pair.
Then, she squealed.
"LOOK AT YOU!!!" Her voice was on-level with that of a pixie-stick high child in a petting zoo, and Autumn was probably more emotionally overwhelmed than one. Politeness be damned, she reached over and felt of Pax's arms, and antlers, and face, and just devolved into delighted squealing.
"Oh, oh!!! You're perfect!!! Look at you, you're ADORABLE!!! And- and oh my gosh, I can show you music!!! And movies!!! And TEA!!! Pax, you're gonna love it!!!"
From Pax's lap, Rosalinde glanced upwards and fixed the former nonhuman with a look that said really? Whatever. She'd always been a condescending cat.
"Oh!! Oh! Do you eat meat?! I can get tofu and make something great if you don't!"

Pax patted Rosalinde calmingly. It had thought this through, right? It looked like a people now. "What is... eat..." it asked, narrowing its eyes (all six of them) suspiciously. "I know music." It even sang a little, sometimes.

"Eating! Oh, eating." Autumn sighed dreamily, thinking about food. Honestly, food made life worth living. Food was the best thing like, ever. Sushi, indian food, greek food...
"You're going to love it. You take things that are..." Wow. This was a lot harder to explain than she'd previously thought.
"They, uh. Taste good? Taste is a sense. Like feeling, but then it's like. There's different tastes to things, and they make you feel different? And you feel good. You can eat all kinds of different things, and figure out what you like! It'll be a fun adventure, actually!!!"

Pax blinked, slowly, again. It liked to do that. It felt odd. Using its hands (much odder than hooves, if you asked it) it gathered up Rosalinde and got to its feet... hooves... hoof-feet. On its feet, it was well over six feet tall. It was tall, and it gangled. "So 'eat' is a magic," said Pax. "I understand." It bowed its antlered head, and tried unsuccessfully to blow its hair out of its face.

"Magic! That's a great way to explain it. You're gonna love it, Pax, I promise!" Oh, she was so excited! This was going to be basically the best thing she'd ever done. Autumn rose to her feet as well, throwing her bag over her shoulder. When she looked over to Pax- and goodness, Pax was incredibly tall. That was pretty attractive nice, she guessed.
"Oh. Oh hey, babe, lemme get that." Autumn reached up, and gently pushed its hair out of its face.
"That better?"

Pax nodded. "Thank you, Kindly One," it said. "You are... called Autumn, in their... world...?" It liked calling her Kindly One, but it didn't want to seem weird.

"I am! But it's whatever's easiest for you," Autumn replied, shrugging nonchalantly. Considering she'd spent the day hunting for a deer who was now sort-of human, things like names didn't seem like the most important part of the day. Autumn shifted a bit, and gestured with her head to the way she'd come.
"Do you... want to see the other side, then?"
